Hey man! Actually doing this right now! Just waiting for the paint to dry on the black coat then put it all back together. Been at it all day as couldn’t take headlights out without taking bumper off so had limited equipment but managed to take wheels and bumper off to make it easier! Can’t wait for the result......
great video man!! I've already binged a couple of your detailing videos. informative and straight to the point, brilliant. however I would definitely recommend that you add to the title something along the lines of "my 2005 Audi A4", you will definitely get more views from people who are looking for tutorial on the A4 Headlights. just a shame to miss out on someones looking for a video like this, he probably won't really be able to find it. anyways just my 2cents, keep doing what your'e doing!
How do the headlights hold up so far? Any moisture inside or oxidization on the clear plastic? I'd love to clear the turn signal markers on my 2010 Accord, but I've read on US forums that you won't be able to OEM seal it afterwards, 99% will be enough to accumulate moisture over time and the heat from the gun or an oven might destroy the UV protection on the clear plastic....that's what I've read...furthermore, what does the law say? Technically the e-mark is invalid after modifying the headlight, isn't it? Since I'm living in Germany, I have to take that into consideration, TÜV (2 year institutional inspection) is a freaking nightmare for DIY guys.
I had slight moisture when I first did it. I think that was what got trapped in when I put the lens back on. Now they seem completely dry. There’s been quite a lot of rain here too. Although perhaps it is different on Hondas. Audi seemed to use a lot of glue that heated up pretty easily. For example, it doesn’t seem viable to do it on my Fiesta because apparently the glue won’t melt. The heat gun is very concentrated, so I wouldn’t worry about uv protection. The main face of the lens isn’t getting hot. I’m not 100% certain on the law regarding it. The bulbs that replaced them were ‘E’ marked and mine went through it’s MOT inspection without any problems.
I tried changing the blinkers for a LED but got an error and they blinked way too fast. Does anyone have a link for a clear or chrome indicator bulb that doesn't give an error? Really helpfull video btw, I did this last week!
This is too much work and someone can easily break something. For those who’s first time doing this is better off not taking the headlight and do it as is. I have done mine .
DONT, please DONT, safety is the MOST important thing, do not tint, paint or otherwise do anything to your lights, front or back, UNLESS it comes like that from the factory..... I HAVE done this, but with old age comes wisdom. PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE DONT
Fortunately the parts that I pained are decorative parts and don’t interfere with the reflective properties of the lens. I wouldn’t dream of paining the reflective parts.
Aftermarket lights cost upwards of £150. This costs £10. It’s not about other people anyway. I mod my car for me, not to impress others. Plus my whole idea behind mods is so that no one notices (OEM+ style) the specific mods done.
