Good day to you, there is a possibility that it could damage some electronic parts on the charger during start/stop of the generator. Nothing will may happen if you do this for a couple time. I used to do this kind of practice to avoid unnecessary repair, beside in actual black-out scenario, the charger have no power and the battery is the only main source of power to start up the emergency generator.
