Do you have other pieces in the intermediate repertoire that you'd like me to cover in a future video? Leave a comment here!

This Bourée is one of my favorite pieces in the Level 4 books. Thank you for covering it! I would love a video on Burgmüller's "The Chase" Op. 100, No. 9

very useful. I love the way how you analysis the piece, and explain the different interpretation we could have. That's what I am looking for and learning. thank you\

I appreciated you mentioning the differing dynamics you might have in each repeat. We were told by a university professor and Bach authority not to put dynamics in Bach repertoire because Bach composed before the pianoforte was invited. My son went to a local graded competition and got marked down because he didn't use dynamics on a Bach prelude. (The only written criticism). Due to a time crunch, he happens to be playing another Bach piece this year for the upcoming competition. Now we are in a flurry trying to decide if my son should put dynamics in or not. He seems to be against them because he took to heart what the Bach specialist said (who will be there), but yet I don't want him to be marked down if he doesn't use the dynamics.

This is a frequent debate. My opinion is that if Bach had played on a modern piano, he would use dynamics. Whenever we play on our modern instrument, we are unable to completely imitate what it would have been like on a historical instrument. Therefore, it's my opinion that it's more important to create an expressive performance. Which in my mind, includes phrase shaping and dynamics.

@@JannaWilliamson Thank you! I am definitely leaning towards him putting in dynamics. He'll have to "compose" some pretty quick.

@@Toutuu98 most fugues have a "climactic" moment where it gets super intense and then backs away from that intensity. Sometimes there are two climaxes at about 1/3 of the way through and 3/4 of the way through, so I would use those to shape it on a macro level. Also, consider sequences (particularly in the episodes) for building or diminishing. I talk about those in this video: ruclips.net/video/aos6C5AaXXo/видео.html
