I personally enjoyed the film a lot. Before I went into my screening I decided to leave my concerns at the door and not take it quite so seriously. So I ended up having a blast from beginning to end. I thought some of the song choices hit the spot very well, for example Kickstart My Heart in the closing scene of the film. I thought that was a brilliant choice, and apparently so did the guys in the row in front of me who were going nuts for it. Everyone is going to take something different away from this and, while some parts of this film were very jarring and some of the jokes didn't quite land, Harbour's performance seems to be the common ground people can agree on here. He was brilliant and deserved a better script. The older movies remain my favourite, but I enjoyed this a ton and I would go see it again!

I saw my first full Hellboy film (2004) in its entirety this year and was impressed how visually amazing it was. Del Toro's masterpiece for sure. But crazier than that, idk how they could ever recast it from Ron Perlman. He was that character.
Oh no....Milla Jojovitch....this is a bad sign. Love the Descent. David Harbour is great....but darn it.....I was really into Del Toro's universe. And I'm getting tired of the reboot mentality. It's draining.
well when the main actor and director are unable to do it, the copyright holder has to do something with the property in order to hold on to it. sometimes it's awesome, most of the time it's mediocre.
Milla was the only redeeming point for me in this draggy movie. There subtle emotions played out on her expression even with the less scene she got in this. She is a great actress. I would rank her the same with Charlize Theron
See, this is why I always check out the Stuckmeister. I tune in for a review, and I end up with a recommendation for Dog Soldiers. Thanks for that and for letting me know about Martyrs and Inside in a previous upload.
How does the cheetah guy put his cloths on so fast after he transforms back into himself? I mean the first time he turns into the cat he takes his shirt off but leaves his pants on then when he’s the cat he’s naked. But when he’s human again he’s got pants on?! Wtf!!!
As a huge fan of the comics, this movie was fantastic. The service to the fans was excellent. The Easter eggs were awesome. The set up for a sequel with Koschei the Deathless is ridiculously exciting. Plus the Abe Sapien tease. Yeah. I agree with some of what you said, but I really enjoyed the film.
Just noticed Chris’s Ash figure in the bg. Love it! I also liked Hellboy a lot more than I thought I would- some of the character design was substantially less soulless than the script and editing, especially Baba Yaga; I thought she was really cool.
yeah i'd have to agree with you. I loved the fact that it was R rated and didnt try to be pc, but at the same time the plot was really lacking depth. I didnt care for any of the characters and i didnt care for the end plot. it had potential, but just felt kinda lack luster. i'd be cool if it was a series instead i feel. Absolutley, everybody is bitching about Ron Perlman not being in it. Get over it people and give this movie a chance, this is really a good Hellboy movie that is actually comic acurate, which the older movies weren't. They were good movies, but the second one, though I loved it, was more Guillermos fanboyism towards Lord of the Rings, Harry Potter and World of Warcraft, not so much Hellboy comic acurate.
@@iamjulian2810 you obviously haven’t covered the “difference of opinions” chapter in your studies. Not everyone is gonna like what is “perfect”. Get over it.
ME AND A FRIEND WENT TO SEE HELLBOY AND WE BOTH REALLY LIKED IT THE FIGHT SCENES AND HUMOR IS REALLY GOOD SHOULD HAVE CHANGED THE ENDING A LITTLE BUT GREAT FILM
It felt like you could stretch out four hours and have a really solid Netflix miniseries. I mean, there are FOUR unrelated flashbacks for Pete's sake- that's fine if this was a bunch of episodes, but just awkward in a film. A lot of scenes felt too short or rushed, especially towards the end. Not a bad film; a badly made film.
I don't understand the hate with the fladhbacks? The first is an Opening Sequence establishing the Blood Queen... then the one about Hellboys arrival is during a break away from the action... Alice and Grugachs flashback is during a scene that made sense because its about Alice.... The only flashback scene that got in the way was Ben Daimios Flashback on a helicopter...
No thanks, tv series can stick with their low cgi budgets and 90% of people talking. I'd rather them get a nice budget to make the final hellboy movie by guillermo.
@@GodlyEddy Which would have lots of talking too... Sooo?... Hellboy 2 had plenty of talking. Shape of Water is a drama, it could have been an origin movie for Abe Sapien....
"Make it be as fast". Just say "Make it as fast". You wouldn't say "Create it to exist as fast". Make indicates existent; the adverb fast implies the capabality to move at speed.
I liked Hellboy, but the violence was a bit ridiculous. I did have fun with it though and wouldn't mind seeing a sequel, even though I'm sure it won't be getting one. Harbour was great in his role and his makeup was on point. VFX were hit or miss but I think they accomplished a lot for whatever the budget was, which I'm assuming wasn't gigantic.
Yep editing makes and breaks a film making. That is why editing is one of the most important thing in a movie. It helps connect the dot from begin to the end so we as audiences can understand. Just look at the last fantastic 4 and you'll understand why. 😁
Honestly I've caught up with movies from this spring I hadn't checked in theaters... Because I trusted Chris when he said they weren't good. So I caught up Hellboy, Dark Phoenix and Aladdin. And it is definitely true that neither are good movies. I found X men somewhat well shot and well acted, but it failed to have a clenched story. Aladdin was exactly what he said : a weird looking cartoon with real people in it... But Hellboy... Nah. It's not "just a gory movie with a bad script". It really is horrendous. I wanted to stop the movie after 5 minutes. It's not cohesive, I lie David Harbour and he has a great voice but damn! His lines were ALL terrible. When he was supposed to be funny, it felt completely out of left field and not what a person would say. Like if one liners were a magic wand you just had to wave for the movie to be funny. The editing is really bad too. Scenes where people are talking (basically Ian McShane being Exposition guy) are shit and edited as if it was competing with the phantom menace for the most boring exposition scenes ever, and the action felt sloppy, at times you could even see what was happening. Sometimes it was because it was dark, sometimes dusty, sometimes just because the director would chose not to show you the action... A lot of quick cuts and a bit of shaky cam too. I could go on and on, but really, and I'm not overselling Aladdin at all, I found that movie very bland too, but if Aladdin is a C-, Hellboy is an F.
I own a complete copy of the Hellboy comic series and have read it from beginning to end. Outside of one or two overarching plots, much of the comic is rather episodic. Staying true to the source material, the 2019 reboot is following these disjointed plots, often jumping from action scene to another without much character development. The start of the film's opening was unnecessarily edited to oblivion (What for?!). In the deleted scenes, the opening was far more cohesive and didn't need extra narration to explain what was happening. One actor's abilities cannot bandage the many issues with this film. I certainly would have preferred the third installment with Del Toro and Perlman over this train wreck.
I saw Hellboy last Friday. I grew up with the first 2 movies when I was a child and I love them. I was very excited to see a rated R Hellboy....so close yet so far. I will see a sequel if one is announced and hopefully they can correct course but I felt as if they never nailed down exactly their goal and tried to end the movie 3 times but it just kept going. I have hope for the future.
F/S RELATIONSHIP - In the original there was little interaction between Hellboy and his father. Broom spent most of the movie avoiding him because he didnt want hellboy to know he was close to death. In the reboot there is a real connection and closeness as there should be between father and son. They also showed Hellboy was still young and impulsive, and conflicted between which side he belongs on, still a rebellious teen and still has some growing to do like they did with the thor movies. He matured more in each film. Broom both introduces, and greets Hellboy as his son on more than one occasion, and if you couldnt see them together, only hear them talk to each other you probably wouldnt hear any hint that you were listening to a human man speaking to his demon son. I was adopted before I could walk, my parents are the world to me. If you couldnt see us only hear talking you'd never know I was a different race. So seeing there bond throughout the film I was something I could really relate to.
I loved this movie! If you go in expecting some deep thinking, award winning film, then you're setting it up to fail. It's a great, mindless, gory, action movie. Very entertaining!
Eceryone is bashing this movie saying Del Toro should have ended the trilogy. What trilogy people? When they finished the Golden Army it was a well ended story. Hellboy got out of the byro, we find out Liz got pregnant with twins right after they saved the world. Does anyone wishes to see Hellboy change dipers? Or keep fighting with Liz about how they will educate their children? Or watch Hellboy get up early to go to work? C'mon guys, the old movies ended. I doubt they could have done anything interesting or new at that point. Just give this new movie a chance, ods are we're not getting another Hellboy movie for a long long time. Thanks a lot to the critics and the so called Hellboy fans who never actually bothered reading any of the comics...
I think this is a great example of how Robert Rodriguez should be given a second chance and be given upcoming action movies for he has truly shown himself to make a great badass Pg13 films
Guillermo Del Toro created high expectations to his beautifully created world. It's like someone playing Maestro in an Orchestra playing Beethoven or Mozart, just because you can drive an Orchestra to play the master pieces of classical music doesn't put you on their level.
Dude I just watched Hellboy (2004) after I watched Hellboy (2019) this weekend and to be honest, I like the new one better. The nostalgia effect is playing with your memories, this movie aged really poorly in many respects. Hellboy (2004) wasn't bad, mind you, but neither is Hellboy (2019). The script in Hellboy (2004) is pretty much even worse than the script from Hellboy (2019), I mean really? How the fuck did Samael travel all the way to Russia and how come he didn't overrun the world on his way there? WTH was that plot about. And that stupid ass Liz x Myers x Hellboy triangle was a cringefest considering that there was no chemistry between any of them. Rasputin showing up everywhere out of thin air, but he's immaterial, until the last scene where he suddenly gets killed with one physical hit. And just as he dies, conveniently a big fucking monster that nobody heard about prior to that scene comes out of his body. What the fuck. I'll be honest, re-watch Hellboy (2004), people, before you bash Hellboy (2019) on the premise of nostalgia feels. Hellboy (2019) has its flaws but being worse than Hellboy (2004) ain't it.
I feel bad for David Harbour. Ron Perlman as Hellboy is like Hugh Jackman as Wolverine or RDJ as Iron Man. They were just born for those roles.

me too o feel that this movie will be appreciated when time pass like lot of movies it was fun to watch lot of action and interesting creatures
Same thing happened on the set of Gladiator somewhat and look how great it was. Letting directors actually direct helps.
Milla Jovovic was the best thing about this stupid movie!
GIT GUD her last name is SERBIAN, and in Serbian there is no H. Don't give me that American bs version
GIT GUD Wikipedia is probably written by someone not aware of where the name comes from.
Milla was the only redeeming point for me in this draggy movie. There subtle emotions played out on her expression even with the less scene she got in this. She is a great actress. I would rank her the same with Charlize Theron
I found the music in the movie overbearing, it was so loud it made certain scenes impossible to hear the dialogue.
See, this is why I always check out the Stuckmeister. I tune in for a review, and I end up with a recommendation for Dog Soldiers. Thanks for that and for letting me know about Martyrs and Inside in a previous upload.
This gives me hope for the third Pearlman and Del Toro.
With how often you wear a DBZ shirt I would say your a low key Dragon Ball RUclipsr.
BlackScape wow. Ok

How does the cheetah guy put his cloths on so fast after he transforms back into himself? I mean the first time he turns into the cat he takes his shirt off but leaves his pants on then when he’s the cat he’s naked. But when he’s human again he’s got pants on?! Wtf!!!

@@tsohgallik Hey, there must be gay hentai too... 😜
Beginning of the video: “This movie isn’t as bad as some are making it out to be”.
End: “I’m going to give this film a C-“
🤔
Yeah well, many would automatically give it an F, for some reason
Yeah from reading the reviews. I was expecting an F
Well if you're going by school grading, a C is average so slightly below average isn't terrible
Unless C- has become the new lowest friggin score then what he said and graded makes perfect sense.
Not sure how this confuses you...
Just noticed Chris’s Ash figure in the bg. Love it!
I also liked Hellboy a lot more than I thought I would- some of the character design was substantially less soulless than the script and editing, especially Baba Yaga; I thought she was really cool.
I loved the movie personally
Same. Thought it was Awesome. Didn't understand the Hate.
I love the movie I they make a 2nd one
yeah i'd have to agree with you. I loved the fact that it was R rated and didnt try to be pc, but at the same time the plot was really lacking depth. I didnt care for any of the characters and i didnt care for the end plot. it had potential, but just felt kinda lack luster. i'd be cool if it was a series instead i feel. It was a decent movie that i could enjoy and sit through its intirety, but i'll probs forget about it in some time which is a pity
I was really looking forward to this movie too. Eh, I’ll still see it
Could you and jermey jahns do a review together? That would be really cool!
I enjoyed it, but I can easily see where others wouldn't.
I agree i think it was fun movie most want to hate it beacuse not what they want or have it there way.
@@cindycruzquinn666 I think most people don't want to like the movie just because it's not Del Toro in it. No one want to give a chance. I've been reading Hellboy for years and I love what they did here! Del Toro's productions is awesome but the core of Hellboy, oh my, it's sad to see Hellboy like a teenage with jealousy, just... I can't.
@@eustuart Thats what I thought at first dude, loved the first 2 movies. And what did I do? I watched it and yup the bad reviews are completely just. Was just as big as a dumpster fire as the trailer. I think them trying to make it like the comic wasn't bad, but they just failed with the script and story telling. Bad pacing in the movie just as I was watching it.
@@GodlyEddy Just to be clear, I know this movie has many problems about pacing, script, etc. But in the beginning I was aware that it would be a B Movie and it's fine! But to most people don't, they still want DelToro, you just have to read the comments.
I've read this days "so we definitely won't get the 3rd movie?". C'mon!
Even with this awful things about the movie, I love it just because I get a movie about Hellboy in flesh and spirit, straight from the comics!
@@GodlyEddy also, 99% of reviews starting comparing with DelToro's production. I understand why, but still thinking it's unfair: Because this, most people won't even try. So it goes.
I watched this movie tonight going into it thinking it was going to be a bad movie like everyone said online but I was surprised to me this was one of my favorite hellboys if not my favorite
Same here. I was kinda surprised that it got the bashing it did.
Dynamico Designs you all are trolling, as someone who studies directing, this movie was dogshit 😂
@@iamjulian2810 you obviously haven’t covered the “difference of opinions” chapter in your studies. Not everyone is gonna like what is “perfect”. Get over it.
Why will you never see Hellboy in an Armani suit?
Because the Devil Wears Prada.

Would love to see you review "The Descent" by Neil Marshall. And/Or perhaps it's sequel too. 😊
ME AND A FRIEND WENT TO SEE HELLBOY AND WE BOTH REALLY LIKED IT THE FIGHT SCENES AND HUMOR IS REALLY GOOD SHOULD HAVE CHANGED THE ENDING A LITTLE BUT GREAT FILM
Always love your reviews, Chris. Btw, your Dragonball T-Shirt's really cool.
Well this film was distributed by Lionsgate, so it if was a mini-series, it most likely would've been on Starz because Lionsgate owns Starz.
The flashbacks were not used effectively and brought the action to a grinding halt. Very poorly constructed.
Im pretty curious in seeing this film , even if its getting a bad rap from critics.
I liked it.
I thought I was going to love David Harbour as Hellboy but Ron Perlman’s version is just too good
I'll wait for it to hit Netflix....should be about 3 weeks time.
It is a crime that we will never see the Guillermo del Toros third hellboy.
Why did this movie challenge both Endgame and Shazam?
The guys knew they would flop

There was a scene that was so fucking loud that I literally had to cover my ears. I never have had to do that in a movie before.
Is this Resident Evil?
Thank you for always giving fair reviews and break downs of movies.
Nothing screams "eh" than Chris's face in the thumbnail
I liked Hellboy, but the violence was a bit ridiculous. I did have fun with it though and wouldn't mind seeing a sequel, even though I'm sure it won't be getting one. Harbour was great in his role and his makeup was on point. VFX were hit or miss but I think they accomplished a lot for whatever the budget was, which I'm assuming wasn't gigantic.
The golden army is the best hellboy hands down!
Fractured Films “bellboy”
Joey Bingham corrected thanks
About time you reviewed the first 2 Hellboy movies!
You've seen Dog Soldiers? Can you please review it, it's such an underrated masterpiece.
Thanks Chris! Just fyi if I ever need a review for a movie YOURE MY FIRST CHOICE!! GREAT CONTENT!
So we saw this same plot in The Mummy, and Suicide Squad. Where is the originality in Hollywood? Yikes.
I liked it. It's a lot more faithful to the comics too. Like, vampire luchadors, lobster johnson and so on.
Chris is all over the place with his critiques. It’s not as bad as the internet said it is, blah blah blah. Pick one dude
I really enjoyed the movie. The CGI is pretty good, amazing makeup, and it gets right to the action. C+
On the mark again Chris. Allows defer to you on reviews. Thanks for your good works.
I loved this movie! If you go in expecting some deep thinking, award winning film, then you're setting it up to fail. It's a great, mindless, gory, action movie. Very entertaining!
Welcome back Chris!
i didnt take it seriously and loved it!!!
I think the character that Chris said was walking at times like a crab was Baba Yaga. You know, the same Baba Yaga John Wick is referred as.
Worst part is that Mignola expresses more support for this mess than the originals.
He lied when he promised this would be closer to the comics.
