It's a big coincidence that I've been practicing lounge act on the guitar all day and as soon as I get frustrated and finish, you release this video XD

I would like to apologize for my fellow Nirvana fans. I'm a hardcore Nirvana fan since their beginning, and I would never subject you to having to listen to all those covers. I appreciate your hard work on this video though.

Hey David, you should check out divine and bright by Seattle drone metal band Earth. Most nirvana fans or people in general don’t know this (it’s a bit of a fine print Easter egg), but Kurt Cobain actually does lead vocals on the track.

I was really worried about this reaction when I saw the title 😂
Nirvana - One of my favourite tracks off of Nevermind. The first half of the song is all build up and anticipation waiting for the second half to hit and it to go nuclear! I used to often have the Nevermind CD in my PC a lot when I played Quake 1.. so I would get a random track per level. Whenever a level had Lounge Act.. during the second half I'd change my normal cautious play style and just go crazy blasting baddies and flinging grenades all over
Post Malone - mix aside (hey it's a livestream), I thought the instrumentation was fine. I'm not really familiar with his music, apart from recognising his name and knowing him as a guy who probably lives above a tattoo parlour. I don't think he's a bad singer but.. there was less contrast in the two halves of the song.. and he's just not in the same league as Kurt for those screaming vocals. A lot of his word pronunciations really threw me too.. sometimes it sounded Hetfieldish, sometimes it sounded really southern twangy (like "anythiang" instead of "anything" etc.) - still, props for doing it to help fight the pandemic
Touché Amoré - I liked how they tried to make it their own song and do it in their own way. Some of the original vocal melodies I thought could have been chosen better. It dipped in and out of being a cover and then the second half is more of a straight up cover (that they started going heavy into a verse early). Not bad
Four Minutes to Midnight - Wow they really went nuts changing up the music.. it's only vaguely recognisable as the same song. The clean vocals are pretty authentic aside from some odd rhythmic choices "I've got this friend, yousee, who.." and interesting harmonies - but I was really expecting it to take off after the nice breakdown section before the second half.. I was looking forward to seeing how crazy they went in their style.. but instead it fizzled out. We just got the first half of the song again really.. without the payoff
I ended up ranking them in the same order as you. Cheers.. and phew!

When I saw the title of this video, I was initially confused. Thought you might be reacting to some kind of mashup. Then of course you explained the whole deal. For me, I only wanted to hear any thoughts on the original, as it’s one of my fave tracks on that album. A lot of times I seem to go in for the lesser-known deep cuts on records. Personal preference, I guess. So, as far as four different versions of the same song, I’m going to give my view that it’s a tall order. I’ve come to understand that as music fans we can overestimate the appeal of our favorite pieces. We’re too biased and partial. I no longer believe my top tracks would find favor with others. Still, kudos for grinding it out. And love the quick clip of the speech by “John Milton”.

*Here’s the lyrics in case anyone wants to follow along*
    Truth covered in security
I can't let you smother me
I'd like to, but it couldn't work
    Trading off and taking turns
    I don't regret a thing
And I've got this friend, you see
    Who makes me feel
And I wanted more than I could steal
I'll arrest myself and wear a shield
I'll go out of my way to prove I still
    Smell her on you
Don't tell me what I wanna hear
    Afraid of never knowning fear
    Experience anything you need
    I'll keep fighting jealousy
    Until it's fucking gone
And I've got this friend, you see
    Who makes me feel
And I wanted more than I could steal
I'll arrest myself and wear a shield
I'll go out of my way to prove I still
    Smell her on you
    Truth covered in security
I can't let you smother me
I'd like to, but it couldn't work
    Trading off and taking turns
    I don't regret a thing
And I've got this friend, you see
    Who makes me feel
And I wanted more than I could steal
I'll arrest myself and wear a shield
I'll go out of my way to make you a deal
We've made a pact to learn from who
Ever we want without new rules
And we'll share what's lost and what we grew
They'll go out of their way to prove they still
    Smell her on you
    They still
    Smell her on you
    Smell her on you

Thanks for diving into this epic, and apparently, one-time-only Original vs. 3 Covers review, David. The Nevermind album inspired a ton of tribute albums, and its individual tracks have seen countless covers. My idea was to take "Lounge Act" (one of my favorites from Nevermind) and showcase the variety of the different styles of covers that can emerge from a single song: A cover that’s almost a carbon copy (Post Malone), a cover that changes things up a bit while still feeling familiar (Touché Amoré), and a cover that really makes the song its own (Four Minutes Til Midnight). I was a little surprised you didn’t give the Four Minutes Til Midnight cover a higher score. When I requested that you react to T-Pain's cover of "War Pigs" last year, you really loved how he put his own twist on it, and it resulted in one of the highest ever scores on the channel. I thought then that you might really appreciate Four Minutes Til Midnight’s very different take on "Lounge Act." Perhaps the original was still fresh in your mind, which may have influenced you to judge the covers based mostly on how closely they matched Nirvana's rather than on their own merits, like when you reacted to and reviewed T-Pain's take on "War Dogs." Still, you gave the Four Minutes Til Midnight's cover a good score, so it’s not all bad.
The takeaway I was aiming for with this request was that viewers would see and appreciate how different artists can interpret Nirvana in so many ways. I hope other Nirvana fans watching this found some new artists they might want to check out more of, whether it’s Post Malone, Touché Amoré, or Four Minutes Til Midnight. Thanks again for taking this on, David! I hope other Nirvana fans enjoyed the video too!

Bass driven original surely, thats the catch, along with the switch, and Kurts screaming vocal in 2nd half, i agree with the scores you gave, exept last one, i didnt like at all, that one would have been rated 5 or below for me.. original surely the best..

Post Malone's version sounds like a Metallica version of this song. I listened to his whole cover of Nirvana and it was so much like a Metallica version. There are lots of covers of Nirvana songs, even in one of the million Batman movies and some other movies. Surprised by the high scores compared to Nirvana's. I'm a Nirvana freak though.😂
