it happens to everyone-he thought he caught the ball because he did not see it bouncing, so he claimed a catch. Look at the video of "ponting does not claim dravid" video. It was similar to this, just that he knew it bounced. Ganguly didn't. Not a big deal. Calm down, seriously.
Obviously, that catch could have been claimed without knowing it bounced too ! So, yeah, to answer your question, if he didnt know it bounced, that's not cheating either. Hold it to the same standards, sure ! Whoever calls this cheating is making a comment without having the whole information. You just called Ganguly a cheat yourself. Doesn't that smell of hypocrisy ? It's not about being Indian or Aussie. It's about what's right and what's not ! Simple and straight..

2 3rds is a bit harsh, they've won enough to draw and win several series. Consistency is what you're talking about, the reason why Bangladesh can beat better sides, but not all the time.
What I know from standing in slips is whenever you dive pushing your body forward and ball is dipping believe me it's only your judgement and reflexes which completes the catch coz in last split seconds your eyes becomes completely closed and you can't say it bounce before or were in your palms directly

The "Spirit of the Game" is talked about a lot but no one has actually defined what the correct "Spirit" is. Surely abiding the rules of the game and not cheating is in the spirit of the game?
Yes, he did claim it, but here's the thing: Gilly was within his rights to wait for the 3rd umpire, because there had been no agreement before that World Cup to take the fielder's word for it. But when before a series you agree to take the fielder's word on close catches (as was the recent Test series), claiming grounded catches is wrong because the batsman has really no choice but to go. That's what Clarke did wrong. If there had been no agreement, I would have had no problem with Clarke.
it is very difficult as a fielder to know if a catch u have to dive forward for has bumped just before you. you can try it, you will realize. you can even see in the slow mo, whilst he is grasping the ball, his face is pointing upwards and he is not looking at the ball, so he did not know the ball bounced. this happens quite often. ponting claimed a catch when he clearly had grounded the ball in the process of taking the catch. his attitude towards the umpire was even worse.
it was not that michael clarke claimed the catch that we complained, but it was more the fact that benson took ponting's/clarke's word over ganguly's. When the batsman is claiming that the catch was not clean, then should you not go to the third umpire. Law says that you can go to the 3rd umpire to check for catches. instead you ask a player, who stood his ground after a ball straight into dravids lap, instead of walking. the umpiring was horrible.
