that catch at 0:57 by bacher to dismiss tendulkar was bloody brilliant. that test match was a demonstration of how good and methodical the saffers were on that tour! everytime india surged in that test, they pulled out something special to send them on the backfoot.
@bongo155 its "the last of the international playboys" by stroke 9
Love all the Americans who type in 'catches' in RUclips and expect baseball. There is so so much more to this world than they comprehend outside their country....
Having said that, I do think Collingwood is one of the best fielders today. And not only a fielder, but also a good batsman, a decent bowler and a brilliant sportsman
I love the simultaneous jump at 1:40
listen, i'm a canadian, yes i love hockey, but cricket is like my third fav sport (baseball second) i just love these amazing catches, and the sixes! just amazing :)
Amazing song........
Catching these rock hurts but the feelings of catching it is amazing.
ha ha look at tendulkar's reaction aft that amazing catch!!
To all sensible Amercans -Great to see you guys..
To all ignorant ones -Stop being Insecure. It can be understood that your favourite sport Baseball is not even the most popular sport in your country,lets forget the world.
So what you can do is care about the sport you play, and leave others alone. Trying to pull others down doesnt make one go upwards
I have not seen many cricket fans being insecure on baseball videos, becoz they dont need to. So have a life and have your own interests.
Cheers..
I'm an American and I know nothing to VERY little about cricket!! To me it looks like Jai Alai and baseball WITHOUT A GLOVE! These ARE AMAZING catches!!!
none of these "all time" plays would make the MLB top 5 plays of the - -> DAY
@thejmt - No there are orthodox-in-swingers, reverse-in-swingers, orthodox-out-swingers, reverse-out-swingers, in-cutters, leg-cutters, yorkers, bouncers, slow bouncers, beamers, orthodox-finger-spin, orthodox-wrist-spin, chinamans, googlies, flippers, doosras and the list goes on..... Then you get the combos like in-swinging-yorker for example.
PROUD TO BE A CRICKET PLAYER/FAN AND AN INDIAN!!
agree with catt23, Hayden must be gutted when he looks back, 2 of the best catches I've ever seen. Roll on next Thurs night!!
awesome catches..really, awesome...
@CharvakaJim In fact in cricket there is the curveball. It is called inswing or outswing. The bowler makes it curve in the air by shining just one side of the ball and depending which side he holds and how he breaks his fingers across the ball it will curve in the air either in or away from the batsman.
I once took a really good catch as wicket-keeper. I should have left it for the slips but I chose to dive and caught it one handed. Everyone was so impressed!
0:49 Best catch ever, Tendulkar stunned
There were some really nice catches but the editor of the video did not include plenty of catches that deserved to be in the top 25.
@bongo155 baseball makes my life extremely exciting
@toffee453 Cricket balls have a concrete or lead core and have a hard rubber coating. So yes cricket balls are hard as hell. They have more kinetic force than baseballs because they have a heavier core and a rubberized outer coating so when the ball is hit it travels at high velocities.
@stikupartist3 you hit it an run between the stups (the three posts) the other batsman has to also complete the run to the other end. that's a run (you can typically run up to 3 runs)
alternatively hitting it past the boundary with a bounce or rolling on the ground is 4 runs, or a out of the park hit is 6 runs. you do not change batsmen after runs. he simply keeps batting till he's out.
"Cricket? You gotta know what a crumpet is to understand cricket!" - Raphael, the most rebellious of the turtles.
As much as I've tried to appreciate Cricket, I have no idea what's going on and I keep falling asleep watching it.
GOD DAMNIT I KEEP WATCHING THIS VIDEO OVER AND OVER LOOKING FOR BASEBALL!!!!!!
@themambafan Good point. But the reason they do that is to avoid injuries like a pulled muscle... fielding or catching involves a lot of body movement. So, the player cannot stop and halt all of a sudden. Its better to take a proper fall with proper technique which does not cause any bodily harm. If you observe the dives have hardly cause any injuries to the players.
3:40 is amazing
@ReD4eva94 Baseball pitchers usually throw some type of breaking pitch like a curveball or slider which move or dive before getting to the batter. So there is something similar to spinners in baseball.
People ignorant about cricket should realize that its the only game thats being played in 3 formats at the international level. Each format gives you something different. Purists favour the original form of cricket (test cricket), while slam bam latest version (T20) is for those who love high ocatne action(3 hour game). A mix of the old and new is provided by the one day game. No other sport gives such a mix of action and stratergy . Thats why I love this game.
The catch at 0.48 over his shoulder is amazing
I like how fans fight in cricket... India/Pakistan/Sri Lanka/Australia/England/New Zealand/South Africa.... Truth is ... its an amazing sport. Cricket wont be this amazing without one these teams. I love the game!
I'm not saying cricket doesn't take skill or is easy but i think it's funny how some of these catches it wasn't really necessary to fall down. Still a lot of great plays.
Jonty without a doubt was the best fielder through out history but Colly has taken more stunning catches then the king himself Jonty!
@ancientphoenixians 3 billion people wanted to see 25 amazing BASEBALL catches my friend
paual collingwood and jonty roads's catches were awesome..
I'm American as any typical American.... I've never been outside the states and I love our country. I am ashamed of the comments I see here. This is exactly why (and correctly felt) that people of non-US heritage think American's are arrogant A-holes! I'd like to apologize on behalf of my ignorant and arrogant conytrymen. I wish to learn the rules of cricket and Aust. Rules Football so as to enjoy them even more! (Thanks ESPN!) All sports (from all countries) should be appreciated and respected!
collingwood is without question the best fielder in the game, and has been for many years now. but punter's stump-throwing are the best. unbelieveable accuracy. jimmy anderson and michael clarke would be up there atm too. brett lee in his pomp was superb in the outfield. graeme smith always has a safe pair in the slips, and de villiers and duminy are superb athletes. aye, not a bad list that.
@Fras76 alot of countrys play baseball proffesionally but you are right about basketball and american football
"The Last of the International Playboys by stroke 9" Abraço.
Cricket is a truly unique and awesome sport.
@Takaouto
Baseball became an extremely popular sport during and just after the American Civil War. It was called "America's Pastime" because during the late 19th and early 20th century it was probably the most widely played sport in the country. Baseball was to that time period as video games and television are to today. Before TV Baseball was what kids did after school and on the weekends and during the summer...etc. It was literally how America passed the time.
I'm glad to see Mark Ealham's C&B was in there, but disappointed not to see the best catch ever - Mike Brearley's running catch in the 79 World Cup Final right in front of the Lords Taverners.
I'm American. I found this video after reading about Bill Byson's funny explanation of cricket in his book "In A Sunburned Country". Although I dont understand the game, it looks interesting, and those were amazing catches. People shouldnt look down at something just because they dont understand it. If cricket was a "gay" sport, whatever that means, it wouldnt have millions of fans.
fairplay to keep eyes on that by collingwood -what a catch ! and for the americans in baseball you may have some great catches , but in cricket you never know when its going in the air , there alot more face height and fast body catches when the ball is strainght at you and one thing for sure YOU HAVE WAAAAAAAAY LESS TIME ON SEEING THE BALL TO CATCH CLOSE UP , oh and no glove so it does hurt , but then again it only hurts if your a pansy or you only wear protection!
it's the game that will eventually evolve into cricket
and this is as exciting as cricket gets
Pretty awesome. If I ever get to England, I'm going to a cricket match.
Baseball: pitcher throws a 100 mph ball at your head and batter wants to start a fight because he feels threatened.
Cricket: bowler delivers a 100 mph ball at your head and batsmen ducks, smiles & has a look at deep square leg to see where he's going to hit the next one.
Cricket is played by gentlemen and is a war of attrition. Baseball is played by Kenny Powers.
@testingmango Further, there is no infield work in cricket as in baseball..no relays, no laser throws to get a double play. The games are similar, but really very different. I love watching cricket, and got hooked when I lived in the UK in the 90's. But I'm a Yankee fan, and to me the games are very very different, in style, execution and intensity.
@vincentelin cont....
Alsp,the reason why bowlers dont reach 95 mph so frequently is not becoz of the bounce, its just becoz they have to keep their elbow straight.Try to bowl with a windmill motion of your arm and you will realize how difficult it is to get even 80mph, still the record for cricket's fastest ball is slightly less than baseball's 101 at 100.3.
Another thing I forgot to mention- you rarely hit 95 mph balls at batter while in cricket its perfectly legal to do so,head or toe...
Jonty Rhodes stopped singles by reputation alone, a priceless quality in the one day form, I also rate Colly of England, such a stubborn bugger to bowl out and magic in the field
@MrShricky1071 I can say i would love to live in every country.
Every place has its own uniqueness which no other place has. ;-)
@KruddyTFB a fast bowler can bowl at 95mph regularly. If that is snicked behind it will be going faster than that. That is why the best catchers are in the slips the position behind the batsman. Only the wicketkeeper wears gloves as he catches it the most and without gloves his hands would turn to mush. The ball is rock hard. Any mistimed catches often result in broken or dislocated fingers.
now i thought it was baseball aswell, and i love baseball, go rays! also im no cricket fan but after watching this vid, im a little stunned that the batter has a helmet and pads but the fielders dont, shit they dont even have gloves! im pretty impressed with the balls these guys have facing that ball at those speeds and catching it barehanded!
@bongo155 we don't use proffesional players in international Baseball other than WBC because it goes on during our season.
Paul Collingwood is the best. Its like he has glue on his hands! Great fielder.
collingwood is amazing. He has little natural ability compared to other world class cricketers, but he just gets so much from himself. I've always loved watching him play. Pity he's a pom.l
Am I the only one in 2019
@dobbylad18 they give them away. most baseballs get given away as "presents" to the fans. a player makes a catch, throws the ball into the stands, and a new ball come into play.
Wow, collingwood's last catch is the best though not shown very often.

that last catch was crazy..
2:50 for the best catch...
that won over his head jumping up was sick
I'd just like to thank dobbylad and bongo for fighting the good fight against American ignorance for so long and persevering.
The least you can hope is that some of the more open minded Americans can understand why cricket is more beloved to the rest of the world while they continue to believe that their domestic team sports have the same level of standard as that of an international compettion
That's one of the best things about cricket, That it's regularly played at an international level.
John Major a former Prime Minister of England (same as President to USA) when voted out of office went on TV and said he was going straight away to watch a cricket game which he did. He went way up in my estimation after that.
People fighting down there, baseball and cricket are both great sports so stop bashing each other and respect opinions.
@Ungodwarrior
fast bowlers get up to 100mph. They are also allowed to hit the batsman's body and head. That's why they have helmets with face guards and half a mattress strapped to them while batting.
@DJSteezyToYoungMoney its reactionary.....a celebration

You guys are TOTALLY rippin' it up on the world stage. Show all those people from Lichtenstein, Burundi, ZImbabwe, and the Dominican Republic who's the boss.
@droopusmaximus It's impossible to say baseball catches in the mitt are as hard as this. The thing is catching a baseball is never gonna hurt, especially with a glove. I don't know if you know what rounders is but it's baseball with no gloves and it's still easier to pull off catches than in cricket because the ball doesn't hurt when you catch it.
i love this sport its soo fun to play
baseball is the best sport in cricket u watch the grass grow standing there baseball is a fast game u hit the ball u run
@auckland37 the first game with a ball and a bat was the oina ,idk how it spell in english.This game was created on 13th century.
@pinkhippie135 ye, im english and play for a cricket team, you can hit them behind
and score runs, 4's and 6's.and u dont even have to hit the ball! iff the wicket keeper
misses it u can score runs!
@NaskOfHell In baseball they have gloves. If I had giant bowl attached to my hand that wills half the field, cathing would be easy.
@KruddyTFB
I get it now, so Baseball is very similar to Cricket but I don't think there are any spinners in Baseball.
I agree with the fact that it is very hard to slog a ball above 90 mph. It is just that ever since I was young it was always understood that full tosses were the easiest to hit.
But I guess hitting them with a curved bat with the ball swinging in the air is going to be quite difficult.
wow cricket actually looks pretty fun
is the ball heavy and hard or soft and lite. either way amazing catches
@auckland37 actually baseball comes almost entirely from rounders.
that block of wood you hit it with actually slows down the ball so its 200 times easier to catch
Cricket catches are so much better than baseball ones as they don't have to use gloves to catch a ball.
@CFAN123 yep. baseball pitchers pitch only slightly faster the fastest pitch ever recorded in baseball is about 105.8 mph which is about 168 kmh. some baseball pitchers can consistently pitch 161 kph. plus cricket doesnt have catchers while baseball does.
@bongo155 well that may be so but its still easily the most popular sport in australia
@PSCricket3 actually baseball was based on the game of rounders
I'm an Indian,And i think Paul collingwood is the best fielder we'd ever find!
well im from Australia and living in Japan for the year, played baseball the other day and really cant understand why they need a glove to catch the ball....For example a fast ball bouncing slightly on the ground that goes for 3rd base the fielder turned around (put hes back to the ball) to catch it with the glove in hes left hand, then he had to turn around again to first base.....It really is significantly slower. In cricket we would catch it with our right and be able to throw it instantly
justin kemp's catch in icl final is very good against lahore.
@bongo155 Oh right!
I didn't check the date. lol
@dobbylad18 no worries bro. i just dont get why people hate on sports that are so closely related to the sport they play.
I believe that baseball was invented by an American as a similar but simpler form of cricket. His aim was to bring more people into cricket.
@slater08mc
I suppose there's nothing wrong with being biased toward Collingwood if you're a fan of him and of England. I was simply throwing out the fact that there's many other brilliant fieldsmen who play for other sides (and not necessarily Australia).
@JJeezy1231 you only have to face a couple pitches in an innings in baseball, in test cricket you got to face a couple hundred in 1 innings to be successful and the ball is bouncing and swinging miles in the air and off the ground just as fast as your baseball pitches. And in baseball you catch with a glove.
why did you edit the video again and leave out that amazing last catch that was there?
@AirStylesWindia ..yeah, that's why i said usually hits the wicket...if it's bowled straight..which is what should be considered if you're comparing it to baseball....and in cricket..the throws by the fielder are not always slow....usually they're thrown hard back to the bowler or the keeper, to avoid letting the other side run...fielding has as much importance in cricket as it does in baseball
wow.. firstly the beginning of my comment was the important part (the bit saying that there are far more likes than dislikes) hence cricket showing its popularity. And secondly it wasnt a come back it was merely a quite obvious spelling mistake. Finally, to finish my lesson, cricket > baseball. End of, deal with it.
Ive never known the rules of crickett, but it looks pretty interesting
