    Should a person confess the sins in relation to the earthly laws violated or in terms of biblically defined sin? For example should I say “I violated a chapter of the lethal code defining fraud” or “I have stolen from other people” ? Does God prefer me to frame my transgressions in the framework of his defined laws or the man made ones?

    I love this version of Confession in Orthodoxy it’s all about confessing our sins to God and vs Catholicism is not really aimed that instead the priest forgives and then the Catholic priest says God forgives you now. Big difference in Confessions between the two Faiths. Gloria in excelsis et Te Deum and God bless brother in Christ Jesus❤️❤️❤️🌹😊👍🙏✝️.

    • @pepehaydn7039

      Not exactly. Please read the complete formula of confession in the Roman Church: "God, the Father of mercies, through the death and resurrection of his Son has reconciled the world to himself and sent the Holy Spirit among us for the forgiveness of sins; through the ministry of the Church, may God give you pardon and peace, and I ABSOLVE you from your sins in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit." The priest does not forgive, he only absolves.

    • @pepehaydn7039
      @pepehaydn7039 2 года назад

      @@disciple4578 Your assessment is pure contradiction. If the Holy Spirit was sent for the forgiveness of sins, the Holy Spirit was not sent "in order to help fight sin", but for the forgiveness of sin. Both statements can be affirmed simultaneously, but it is inconceivable why you, protestant heretics, confront the two to create a diabolic contradiction. The Apostles received several commands: to absolve ("tie and untie"), to fogive sins, to preach, to baptize, to celebrate Eucharist... if you affirm that one of these comands belongs personally to the Apostles and not to the Church, how can you say that the case is different for the other ones?
      "The holy spirit was sent in order to help fight sin, not a single time did it validate the idea that priests can forgive or absolve sins." Of course, if the first part of your assertion were true, the other one would be true as well. The problem is that the first is false, an the other, too. If the Holy Spirit is a simple moral supporter, we are lost..
      Ok, we are not lost, but you, heretics, are doomed.

    • @pepehaydn7039
      @pepehaydn7039 2 года назад +1

      First, I am not a catholic apologist. Second, if you are an orthodox christian, I must before God beg your pardon. But, if you are a protestant heretic, I must rebuke you and your heresies.
      I was explaining to orthodox christians the exact words a priest ritually uses during the Sacrament of Penance, so as to avoid missunderstandings. In this Sacrament the Chruch merely actualizes the gift or power of the Keys, bestowed by the Lord to the Church in the person of the Apostles. I can do it because we, christians, have a common ground and avoiding missunderstandings is essential among brothers.
      The problem is that there is NO, ZERO common ground between a believer and a heretic, I mean, a protestant. We can use the same words, for example “Only God forgives”, but the meaning of “only”, of “God” and of “forgives” is never the same. So, understanding is not even possible.
      I would say that you should define the role you attribute to the Holy Spirit, a role invented by you, by your reformer or by your pastor. Meanwhile I confess with the Chuch that the Holy Spirit is the “vivificans”, the Life-giver, the Ζωοποιον.

      @@disciple4578 I would recommend you, heretic, not to accuse me of illiteracy, right? I am not a native english speaker and I make many mistakes. But this is not illiteracy.
      And, please, give up ridiculizing yourself. I explain: you want me to doubt the activity of the Holy Gosh in the Church, in the Sacraments, in the sacramental role of priest BUT, simultaneously, you want me to admit that the Holy Gosh is with you when you read the Bible?? Ja.

    I am new to Orthadoxy and have no Orthodox priest I can go to for confession. I live in Kenya. I desire with all my heart no veils or impurities between God and I and I was wondering if confessing my sins through silent communion in prayer with God is worthy enough of his forgiveness. Or does an Orthodox priest have to be a medium between God and I? Is there Orthadox confession online somewhere?

    • @irenaeusofpensacola
      @irenaeusofpensacola 2 года назад +14

      The answer is yes. God will not turn his back on anyone who is trying to reach him. While going to an Orthodox priest is preferable, you can't help your geographic location. I would suggest contacting a Bishop and asking about the possibility of starting a parish in your area. If he is unable to arrange it, ask for advice about living an Orthodox life.

      Orthodox priest is not a medium between God and the one who is confessing. When you confess your sins, you confess them to Christ. The priest is just a witness, as well as a nurse who helps the Doctor of souls. The confession is God's mystery, in which we can receive visibly God's invisible mercy and get assurance that we really are forgiven. But of course God's mercy is always working if we just seek Him, and confessing your sins to God and repentance should be anyway part of our everyday life. (Btw, since you have no Orthodox priest you can go to for confession, doesn't that also mean there is no divine liturgies in your home area?)

      No, because the Roman Catholic Church is not in communion with the Eastern Orthodox churches. However, you could go to a Byzantine Catholic Church (such as the Melkite Church, Ruthenian Church, Ukrainian Catholic Church, etc) and see about going to confession there, which should be very similar or exactly the same if I’m not mistaken. They follow the same tradition as the Eastern Orthodox churches but are in communion with with the Roman Catholic Church and believe the same Faith, though expressed differently.

      Anyone who seeks spiritual council can go to confession. However, if you are outside the Church, you cannot be given absolution as unbelief, schism and or heresy are themselves sins which separate us from God. But I have known cases of non-Orthodox who have sought prayerful guidance from our priests.

    I always feel I do a terrible job with confession and have given it up for decades, but as I return to faith... how do I know if something is a sin?
    The obvious ones are obvious, worshipping things, adultry, willfully hurting others for personal gain... But beyond this it gets very murky. Are there any hard and fast rules?

      God is merciful! Do the best that you can in remembering those sins that are on the mind and confess that you have forgotten others and that you are sorry for it. If you remember old sins at a later point in time then confess them as they come into your mind. That’s all! Our conscience will be formed over time and become more sensitive the more we confess. God is looking for honest contrition and a resolute will to do better NOT evidence to hold against us if we missed the mark by a degree.

      1 John 3:15
      Whoever hates his brother is a murderer, and you know that no murderer has eternal life abiding in him.
      Matthew 5:27-28
      27 “You have heard that it was said to those of old, ‘You shall not commit adultery.’ 28 But I say to you that whoever looks at a woman to lust for her has already committed adultery with her in his heart.
      Pray to God to make visible your sins for we are all sinners and each of us sin daily knowingly or unknowingly. We should examine the conscience in prayer. Reflect on the Beatitudes in Matthew 5.
      Matthew 5:3-10
      3 “Blessed are the poor in spirit,
      For theirs is the kingdom of heaven.
      4 Blessed are those who mourn,
      For they shall be comforted.
      5 Blessed are the meek,
      For they shall inherit the earth.
      6 Blessed are those who hunger and thirst for righteousness,
      For they shall be filled.
      7 Blessed are the merciful,
      For they shall obtain mercy.
      8 Blessed are the pure in heart,
      For they shall see God.
      9 Blessed are the peacemakers,
      For they shall be called sons of God.
      10 Blessed are those who are persecuted for righteousness’ sake
      Do I forgive those who insult me? Do I show mercy or anger? Do I envy? Do I show obedience? Am I patient? Do I judge others? Do I, by telling truths, cause pain in others? Am I biased? Do I like to draw conclusions? Do I worship my own opinions? Do I like strict judgement more than mercy? Do I have compassion for criminals, the selfish, addicts, sinners, the humiliated, the lustful? Do I bless those who curse me? Am I meek? Am I aware of my own spiritual and mental poverty towards God without His wisdom and truth? Do I share the goods of the earth with others, knowing that I only have them on loan? Am I poor for God and for people, do I realize that everything I have belongs to God and comes from Him. Do I really value poverty as the most perfect ideal? Am I trying to develop an attitude of poverty in myself? Do I care about people’s suffering? Do I love my enemies and do I forgive those who hurt me? Do I long for God above all else? Do I love the law more than the Spirit? Do I love peace and am I helping to bring about peace at home, at the work place, in church, in society and in the world? Am I prepared to be persecuted? Do I try to flee responsibility? Do I make an idol of safety and security? Am I ashamed of Christ? Am I lazy? Do I choose the easy road or the hard road? Do my joys and things to rejoice over have anything to do with God? Or are they only of this world with its lusts, power, wealth and fame? Do I complain a lot? Do I really trust in God? Do I really strive for inner peace?
      We should not try to justify our own mistakes or sins “I did that because I was weak at that period of time.” We should also not talk about others during our Confession but truly confess our own sins and wrongdoings. God knows we are weak and have a hard time and He will strengthen us and give good advise through our spiritual father. To justify our mistakes makes things worse.
      Pray to God to reveal your weakness and sins and we should examine our conscious. Maybe you can find a prayer book with help for examining the conscious. In Christ,

      And I saw the dead, small and great, stand before God: and the books were opened, and another book was opened, which is the book of life: and the dead were judged out of those things which were written in the books, according to their works (Rev-20:12)."
      The Dread Judgment knows no witnesses or charge-sheets. Everything is recorded in men's souls, and these records, these "books" are open. Everything becomes clear to all and to oneself, and the state of a man's soul assigns him to the right or to the left.
      Some go to joy, others to horror.
      When the "books" are open, it will become clear to all that the roots of all vices are in man's soul. Here is a drunkard, a fornicator; some may think that when the body dies the sin dies as well. No; the inclination was in the soul, and to the soul the sin was sweet.
