Just had to share this (from a Fr. Mike homily): "When we go to Confession we are not telling God something He doesn’t already know and we’re not showing Him something He doesn’t already see. We are giving Him something He doesn’t already have: Your broken heart."

      @@IvanLopez-fx3hx we are priests
And God has given pastor's elders teachers evangelists in the building of the church ? Which we are the church and Christ is the head and we are the body , he is the cornerstone and we build ourselves on our Lord Jesus which makes us the church, as our body's are the temple of the Holy Spirit. And in no terms does God say confess to man for forgiveness of sins. As only God can forgive when we confess our sins to him in the name of Jesus.
As man can't see your heart only God can ? So how can man forgive sins.
We are all sinners and only belief in Jesus Christ and what he done for us on the cross
And if you confess Jesus is Lord
And if you repent which means a change of mind and to turn away from sin and trust in Jesus and obey his commands which are not grevious as his way is perfect and brings Joy and love as we are filled with the holy spirit.
We humble ourselves and have faith in God in all things.
So my freind there's only one way for a father son relationship with God and that's through faith in Jesus Christ because he is the Lord God. No rituals no religious routine can get you to heaven and no good works because Jesus done it all and our good works are as filthy rags to him. It's total faith in the Lord Jesus and repentance comes with that through God's power through the holy spirit

The priests have heard it all, especially with me! You will feel so good when you get out of there. If you forget anything, you are still pardoned of that sin, if you honestly forgot it and then just next time you go to confession, be sure to tell it. I was glad to get mine over with and it was very lengthy, so lengthy that I made an appointment with the priest at his rectory. It would have taken way too long in a confessional While others are waiting for me. Good luck! You can do it. All us Catholics totally understand!

Is "mistake" a word used in Catholicism? As far as I know, it's not. It is a word popularly used in our culture right now, in lieu of "sin". (Meanwhile, a sin is not a mistake!)

My husband who is baptized catholic asked I go to Catholic Church when I wanted to take our boys(he now comes also, prayed about that one a lot at Mass) so I decided to give it a try. I went with a closed heart thinking there was no way I would find Jesus there. I left filled with the Holy Spirit and loving the Priest. Thank you so much for this! I have not been back to confession since converting (2 years ago). I want to go and NEED to go but I have often wondered how I can make a truly good confession and how to do a good/thorough examination of conscience. I appreciate these tips so much! My first confession was so cathartic and as a convert, it made me understand why confession is so important. I am still learning though, and this has helped tremendously! Thanks again and God bless you and the work you do! 🙏

There's a good saying "anything worth doing is worth doing badly." 😉 Even a confession that isn't done well (but with the right attitude), is better than never going at all out of fear.

I wast recently testified to by another christian on the evils of the Catholic faith. He quoted many scriptures to prove his point. I felt I did not have enough answers to show this perception was incorrect. I never questioned a lot of what this person felt was wrong. while my faith was not shaken in the church, I did question why there is such a misconception of how we worship. I am very grateful to have found this information!

I am in OCIA class now and the thought of rattling off my sins in the confessional is more than daunting and I have to say embarrassing. I am looking forward to it, to unburden myself but I am still learning about genuine repentance and actually facing all the things I have been a willing participant in my whole life. For the first time I am actually looking at not only my actions but how they became a way of life and how I now see how wrong and arrogant I have been even thinking about my misdeeds. Confession is a strange concept to me having been a protestant, but I can see how this is something I need.

He is knowable in the church teaching and am from Chicago as I am, but now live in Iowa. (Am 82 yrs old) so am old school (nuns 12 years of Catholic School in Chicago years ago!) In Times now, so many Church teaching does not really acknowledge THE EUCHARIST as we were taught SO SINCERELY Back in time. The concept of confession of sin to a priest is nowhere taught in Scripture. First, the New Testament does not teach that there are to be priests in the New Covenant. Instead, the New Testament teaches that all believers are priests. First Peter 2:5-9 describes believers as a “holy priesthood” and a “royal priesthood.” Revelation 1:6 and 5:10 both describe believers as “a kingdom of priests.” In the Old Covenant, the faithful had to approach God through the priests. The priests were mediators between the people and God. The priests offered sacrifices to God on behalf of the people. That is no longer necessary. Because of Jesus’ sacrifice, we can now approach God’s throne with boldness (Hebrews 4:16). The temple veil tearing in two at Jesus’ death was symbolic of the dividing wall between God and humanity being destroyed. We can approach God directly, ourselves, without the use of a human mediator. Why? Because Jesus Christ is our great High Priest (Hebrews 4:14-15; 10:21) and the only mediator between us and God (1 Timothy 2:5). The New Testament teaches that there are to be elders (1 Timothy 3), deacons (1 Timothy 3), bishops (Titus 1:6-9), and pastors (Ephesians 4:11) - but not priests.
When it comes to confession of sin, believers are told in 1 John 1:9 to confess their sins to God. God is faithful and just to forgive our sins as we confess them to Him. James 5:16 speaks of confessing our trespasses “to one another,” but this is not the same as confessing sins to a priest as the Roman Catholic Church teaches. Priests / church leaders are nowhere mentioned in the context of James 5:16. Further, James 5:16 does not link forgiveness of sins with the confession of sins “to one another.”
The Roman Catholic Church bases their practice of confession to a priest primarily on Catholic tradition. Catholics do point to John 20:23, “If you forgive anyone his sins, they are forgiven; if you do not forgive them, they are not forgiven.” From this verse, Catholics claim that God gave the apostles the authority to forgive sins and that authority was passed on to the successors of the apostles, i.e., the bishops and priests of the Roman Catholic Church. There are several problems with this interpretation. (1) John 20:23 nowhere mentions confession of sin. (2) John 20:23 nowhere promises or even hints that apostolic authority of any kind would be passed on to the successors of the apostles. (3) The apostles never once in the New Testament acted as if they had the authority to forgive a person’s sin. Similarly, Catholics point to Matthew 16:19 and 18:18 (binding and loosing) as evidence for the Catholic Church’s authority to forgive sins. The same three above points apply equally to these Scriptures.
The ability to forgive sins is God’s and His alone (Isaiah 43:25). The better understanding of John 20:23 is that the apostles were given the responsibility of declaring with utmost certainty the terms on which God would forgive sins. As the church was being founded, the apostles declared that those who believed the gospel were forgiven (Acts 16:31) and those who did not obey the gospel faced judgment (2 Thessalonians 1:8; 1 Peter 4:17). As the apostles proclaimed salvation in Christ (Acts 10:43) and exercised church discipline (1 Corinthians 5:4-5), they were wielding the authority Christ had given them.
Again, the concept of confession of sin to a priest is nowhere taught in Scripture. We are to confess our sins to God (1 John 1:9). As New Covenant believers, we do not need mediators between us and God. We can go to God directly because of Jesus’ sacrifice for us. First Timothy 2:5 says, “For there is one God and one mediator between God and men, the man Christ Jesus.”
