God bless you! The devil will fight it. He will make you feel you cant go. Just put those feet in the car and turn it on and go. Do the best you can. The Lord knows you are human, nothing is too much for the Blood of The Lamb to forgive. Take heart. Know He Loves you. Maybe think of Him bloody on the cross gazing down upon you with Love that surpasses understanding. And know that we did that to Him. We crucified Him with our sins, even though He could have stopped it, He didn't, He did nothing wrong, but ahe dis it, because He Loves you! God is Love.

I'm preparing for a confession after 7 years away in confusion and pain. I am troubled due to abuse from my family, my mother and my grandmother. However, my mother did not abort me, she allowed me life and gave me to my grandmother. My grandmother abused me but she was the one that made sure I was baptized and attended the catholic school. She didn't follow the church's teaching due to her own history but I do recognize that this was one of the most important things that she for me. I will learn to deal with my anger and pain over my past through the grace of God and learn to pray for my abusers (most are dead now) who are either in hell or in purgatory. Please pray for me to make a good confession today. We Catholics are so blessed to have the holy sacrament of confession. God is good.

Save your breath. Instead go directly to God in prayer. He is just and will forgive you if you confess to Almighty God in the name of Jesus. John tells us we can approach the throne of grace boldly (without fear). God is your Holy Father. He loves you like no one else. What good earthly father would not forgive you if you confessed to something you’ve done and were truly sorry?
He does not give penances. Jesus paid the price for sin once and for all.
You do not need a priest for getting rid of sin. That is Old Testament. The New Testament opened the way to God himself. That is why he sent his Son so you could come to Him as adopted sons and daughters. There is no barrier between God and man anymore. That is why there is so much joy in the Lord.

Confessing anything to an unbiblical snooping priest ( the records of your 'confessions ' are saved by the priests ) is no where to be found in the Word of Almighty God. James 5 : 16 ( King James Bible) says we should confess our FAULTS to one another. The controlling perverts ( Proverbs 13 : 13 KJV ) in the vatican have changed the words of Almighty God. ( Deuteronomy 4 : 2, Revelation 22 : 18-19 KJV ) Revelation 20 : 15 ( KJV ) foretells their final destination.

Well. There were a few good tips here. However, mostly it made me more uncomfortable about going to confession. I mean, it seems to be a whole lot of things I can do wrong more than right while trying to confess the wrongs I have done.
Also, I am older and still not clear on what a mortal sin is. The lesser sins give me enough trouble with guilt and cons of disappointment in me. Sometimes I feel like I’m seven again and getting ready for a first holy communion and other times I wish I was seven again and getting ready for a first holy communion.

Jesus Christ gave us the Sacrament of Reconciliation (Confession). He saved us baptized with the Holy Spirit from original sin we inherited. Sins committed after have to be confessed, absolved and penance served to be forgiven by God.
2 Corinthians 5:18 But all is of God, who has reconciled us to himself through Christ, and who has given us the ministry of reconciliation.
2 Corinthians 5:19 For certainly God was in Christ, reconciling the world to himself, not charging them with their sins. And he has placed in us the Word of reconciliation.
2 Corinthians 5:20 Therefore, we are ambassadors for Christ, so that God is exhorting through us. We beseech you for Christ: be reconciled to God.
John 20:21 Therefore, he said to them again: “Peace to you. As the Father has sent me, so I send you.”
John 20:22 When he had said this, he breathed on them. And he said to them: “Receive the Holy Spirit.
John 20:23 Those whose sins you shall forgive, they are forgiven them, and those whose sins you shall retain, they are retained.”
Matthew 16:17 And in response, Jesus said to him: “Blessed are you, Simon son of Jonah. For flesh and blood has not revealed this to you, but my Father, who is in heaven.
Matthew 16:18 And I say to you, that you are Peter, and upon this rock I will build my church, and the gates of Hell shall not prevail against it.
Matthew 16:19 And I will give you the keys of the kingdom of heaven. And whatever you shall bind on earth shall be bound, even in heaven. And whatever you shall release on earth shall be released, even in heaven.”
Matthew 18:18 Amen I say to you, whatever you will have bound on earth, shall be bound also in heaven, and whatever you will have released on earth, shall be released also in heaven.
Luke 9:1 Then calling together the twelve Apostles, he gave them power and authority over all demons and to cure diseases.
Luke 9:2 And he sent them to preach the kingdom of God and to heal the infirm.

Observe, but he has a right to divulge what's in his own interior life, he has that right; however, if you happen to hear someone else's confession..." it get's cut off to 14:52 "...also make sure to mention your state in life" I'd like to ask what the end of the first statement was, concerning what happens when a person who is not the priest hears another person's confession. At 5:03, Father, you state "this is a tribunal of justice". Yet, in St. Maria Faustina's Diary, Our Lord tells her it is "the Tribunal of MERCY". Our Lord is very clear about that. The court is at the moment of death---"Settle with your opponent while on your way to court..." (Mt. 5:25). Court, in the passage refers not to the confessional, but to the Lord's Court of Justice that occurs at the end of or lives. Jesus---and the Church's teaching--is clear that while on earth, we are given Our Lord's mercy. His Divine Justice occurs once we leave this earth.

It’s important to be honest and tell the priest if it’s *imperfect contrition* - - which is still helpful because (1) you’re being truthful, (2) it helps the priest understand where you are in your spiritual life / growth. (Many people - perhaps most - are initially more concerned with being punished themselves - before they even realize the idea of offending God. Just as children are more concerned with getting in trouble with their parents - before realizing that their parents could be upset by their actions.)
