If it comes out the way I'm thinking try twisting right over left. It might be that you're twisting against your curl pattern

It could be down on both. Blowing is good because you are doing the stretch method which will cause less breakage and make your hair grow faster. I always blow dry first even though I will spray water with essential oils in it.
