Caleb... One of those songs you both love and hate at the same time. You love it because it truly brings out the emotions of the actions, AND it sounds epic, but the message is so sad and dismal that it almost makes you sick emotionally... A hard song to describe, but no one can argue about the fact that it is a great song.
You are right, such raw emotional song pain, sorrow, disgraceful and vengeful at the same time!!!🤘🎶🤪❤️🩹😮💨in my opinion, one of my favorite songs on "unia" the other great song is "for the sake of revenge"!!!🎶🤪🤘
Caleb and Juliet get married, then get divorced (she broke the vow she made), Juliet remarried but Caleb became obsessed with her. He finds her in End of this Chapter, kidnaps her in Don't Say a Word and attempts to commit murder-suicide in Juliet. This song also explains more of his fucked up rationality, and we can say that it was the mother who killed the father in the end (you have to finish what you started, now sit, watch and learn). That's my interpretation of it.
This has been in my playlist for eleven years and will remain there for at least eleven more. Epic storytelling using music and leaving room for the imagination... a classic, as far as I'm concerned.
My interpretation is that Caleb's mother hated his father. The father was abusive with Caleb and his mother so that's the first part of the story. His mother hated his father so much, that she turned Caleb in a person like his father ("He's the portrait of a man his mother drew to hate forever") so she could hate him, even when his father died. During his childhoood she was good with him, teached him good things, he wanted to "keep up the charade until the end" Thats it xD!
@Purebonestorm its about an abusive father, a son, and his mother that lied to him and basically turned him into his father, just so she could hate him long after his real father died. The story of Caleb continues in Don't Say a Word, The End of This Chapter, and Juliet.
The Portrait of a man his mother drew to hate meant that he LOOKED like his father, she saw his father when she looked at him. And this is 1 song in a line of a series dubbed the "stalker series" having a song on each album starting from Unia.
Only issue i have with the outro is if the drummer had used double kicks to match the double picking of the guitars it would have made it about 20 times more epic. (although this is still one of the best outros ive ever heard)
@thefallingdream i don't have any intentions on arguing or saying that your are or not the real caleb, as a matter of fact i believe that is possible. but the fact that sonata send the same history as you could easily means that they have already send it to you. but again i'm not saying is not you...
@yamiimax It isn't wrong to hate someting, it's a feeling, a perspective; what is wrong is to use that hate as an excuse for our conscience to allow us to do stupid thins such as hurting people, lying, or believieng we have right to destroy whatever is that that we hate.
+Lithering I thought that line and the surrounding ones were about the mother helping the son to fake his death to get away from the father until adulthood... so near the end he can sneak up on his father out on the lake and kill him.
The son is the one who smiled in his father's funeral. And yes, it says that the son has never smiled. It's, however, a quote by another person, not the storyteller, thus it's not perfectly trustworthy. After all, contradiction is just a tool in many forms of literary art.
yeah i must listen to it few times to understand the greatness of this album but Winterhearts Guild is still my fav album of Sonata just my opinion but i think all album of Sonata have nearly the same level of creativity (musically and lyrically) to make this band unique
I've actually talked to Tony after a show. Yes, Jani not serving his military duties was only a small part of why they parted ways. But he told me it was more of a series of things than just that and didn't went into the details.
Yes, I think this is the order: 1.Caleb 2.Broken 3.Letter to Dana 4. Unopened 5.The end of this chapter 6.Don't say a word 7.Shy and finally 8.Juliet. And I suspect (lol) that Mary Lou is the past of the girl from Shy and Juliet Well, that's what I have read, listened to and reflected, although there is something missing between Shy and Juliet. We'll have to wait XD
didnt mean nothing like that even thought i do like any thing like that i meant that impliing somthing like kiling a child in its sleep is something strong to say

this happens with most of sonata arctica's music imo

john dark and it ends with "till death done us apart"
@@Chimollification nop, till death do us apart is the second on the saga.
This whole timeline is more confusing than the MCU.
@@eliasvelasquez72 can you please elaborate on this

"until the end, waltzing together" followed by what I call (despite being musically illiterate) a waltz beat on drums.
Fantastic
the best power metal, sonata is amazing.
just listen from the first album to the last...every song has their unique style and thats what makes them an awesome band..
I just randomly put in my name and found this awesome song
After I've listened to ALL of your Sonata Arctica videos, I got a new favourite band!! =D

does anyone just love the outro just as much as i do?
Yes and the part where Toni starts to sing fast
3:43
The Last Amazing Grays, Flag in the Ground, Full moon, Paid in Full and In Black and white are my favorites
@Purebonestorm its about an abusive father, a son, and his mother that lied to him and basically turned him into his father, just so she could hate him long after his real father died.

4:16 EPIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIC
The Portrait of a man his mother drew to hate meant that he LOOKED like his father, she saw his father when she looked at him. And this is 1 song in a line of a series dubbed the "stalker series" having a song on each album starting from Unia.
the solo is amazing!! :D
@5:00 The outro is just...beautiful
ESTE TEMA ES IMPRESIONANTE UNICO ..VIVA SONATA ARCTICA CALEB. VIVA EL POWER METAAALLL
No me gusta la banda pero esta canción es genial!
3:44 to 4:14 =
Man, if I ever get kids I want to name my son Caleb, I just love the name so much
As long as you don't treat him like the Caleb of this song...
4:47 I can easily hear Hansi Kürsch (From Blind Guardian) singing this part.
This song is amazing beyond belief
True love for sonata arctica \,,/
Sir, you are awesome
paid in full, full moon, last drop falls, broken, ruins of my life, tallulah, wolf & raven, i could go on forever haha its an awesome band
saw a one direction comercial before the music, i was so happy when it ended and the music began
Definitely!
If someday I have a son, I'll name him Caleb. Such an epic name :D
Killer piano.
thanks i've heard those, been listening to a lot of their stuff , not really into their new stuff yet though
"Known to us from this day on like his father, Caleb"
Caleb is the father.
"Followed his father, tucked him in, Caleb knows the trade."
meaning that Caleb followed his father.
Caleb's the son
When you see comments 12 years ago. Damn, I feel ancient
I Love and hate the feelings Sonata Arctica produce me >.< Damn songs that strike my heart and release my supressed emotion XD I really love them!
Same for me... Touches so deep...
Sonata Artica rules!!!!!!
Caleb's fucking Awesome, I love that guy.
this is one of those better as a live performance songs
Only issue i have with the outro is if the drummer had used double kicks to match the double picking of the guitars it would have made it about 20 times more epic.
(although this is still one of the best outros ive ever heard)
Sonata Arcrtica at his best!
few more song's shy and tallulah are also very good >:3
amo fuerte este tema
This is fucking beautiful and awesome!!
Does anyone else get Blind Guardian vibes from 3:50 to 4:05 ?
Yup, It is.
They are parts of the same story... Juliet & Caleb's tragic love story...♥
@thefallingdream i don't have any intentions on arguing or saying that your are or not the real caleb, as a matter of fact i believe that is possible. but the fact that sonata send the same history as you could easily means that they have already send it to you. but again i'm not saying is not you...
Masterpiece
@LiThe96 Replica and kingdom for a heart are great too, sweeeeeet metal
@yamiimax It isn't wrong to hate someting, it's a feeling, a perspective; what is wrong is to use that hate as an excuse for our conscience to allow us to do stupid thins such as hurting people, lying, or believieng we have right to destroy whatever is that that we hate.
Sure I have depression but I'm still happy (thanks for making a song about me) lets date
"There is a man in this world who has never smiled"
"Smiled at his funeral, 'happy you're dead.' "
Song, your contradicting yourself.
+Lithering It's even more brilliant that way. He has only smiled in his father's funeral :), he really hated him, you see.
+Lithering I thought that line and the surrounding ones were about the mother helping the son to fake his death to get away from the father until adulthood... so near the end he can sneak up on his father out on the lake and kill him.
*****
I think that the one who died was the father.

Chronos Time God, care to explain?
yeah i must listen to it few times to understand the greatness of this album but Winterhearts Guild is still my fav album of Sonata
just my opinion but i think all album of Sonata have nearly the same level of creativity (musically and lyrically) to make this band unique
@JaniLiimatainenFan Do you know why Jani left the band?
this song is EPIC!!!!!!
This is the best lyrics of Sonata. My opinion. :]
this song is so awesome I listened to it 10 times and if anyone says this song is boring well to hell with them
Just started listening to this band since yesterday , they are unique and sound very good :D
can any1 reccomend me any songs ?
12 years later, did you find what you were looking for? lol
I don’t care what anyone says. I fucking love cheese metal.
Did Caleb kill both his parents?
I Love this song =)
a thousand times better than the new album.
Sorry to say.
@Naresomez He didn't do his civil duty to Finland or something...
If this song was a carpet I would roll around in it for hours
I am Caleb and this sounds about right to me
From what I gather from the story, mother is a snake, lying to the son.
tony said that in the next album "the stalker we've known as Caleb returns to meet his maker"
i'm quite curious about it.
hahahaha this song is a discription of my life i am caleb
lol i dont understand this sentence in the song can you explain?
how do i live without the ones i love?
caleb is the father but later on when the son becomes like the father he becomes caleb himself
I love this song ❤️
yeah single comes out now... today^^
oh must look^^
3 people are the Father.
Silent hill??? WoW, you mean the film or the games???
suuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuper!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I'd like to imagine this song playing during Black Butler. Maybe it's just the harpsichord.
5:00 hasta el final...
I've actually talked to Tony after a show. Yes, Jani not serving his military duties was only a small part of why they parted ways. But he told me it was more of a series of things than just that and didn't went into the details.
Huh. Neat.
I wish i fully understood this song..
Is this Caleb the same from Bible?
Nah, Caleb from the bible was Mossad.
Please make it available for mobile devices, i want to listen this song on my phoneee!
Actually, Dana isn't involved in any of it, there's only Juliet.
ABSTAINER14
2:26 - 2:55 ftw!
MY NAME IS CALEB!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
yeah i like nearly all the songs i've heard so far, not really into the slow songs (not my thing as i'm into fast paced stuff like thrash metal)
@LiThe96
The End of This Chapter can whoop those anyday :))
Some carpets are clean and soft
Hmmm... I can't help but feel there should be something between 'Caleb' and 'The end of this Chapter'
Yes, I think this is the order:
1.Caleb
2.Broken
3.Letter to Dana
4. Unopened
5.The end of this chapter
6.Don't say a word
7.Shy and finally
8.Juliet.
And I suspect (lol) that Mary Lou is the past of the girl from Shy and Juliet
Well, that's what I have read, listened to and reflected, although there is something missing between Shy and Juliet. We'll have to wait XD
Caleb's Mom has 4 youtube accounts.
I think he kills her until "Don't say a word"
:)
would wildfire fit in there anywhere?
i cant help me it remind me of this amok runnings these days
it means he want to break his neck
Нешто најљепше.
haha yes
think I need a life XD
foda
Wish this was in the correct order...
didnt mean nothing like that even thought i do like any thing like that i meant that impliing somthing like kiling a child in its sleep is something strong to say
Actually Juliet is the end.
@magofelpanera lol nelle informazioni..xD
