(Tony Kakko)
The mystery of death before us
Soon every night can bring the light... and close my eyes.
Sometimes life in here is too limiting
Sometimes we don´t care at all, sometimes...
Time will change the familiar face,
Brightest colors fade to gray
The fear is real, one winter´s day brings the clarity..
I feel the time is catching up with us
How many days until its hunger is satisfied
Living the final golden days, we are the last Amazing Grays
Hoping the young will lead the pack now
I can feel my heart is beating... still
I can see you with my eyes, I still see...
But I can´t run the way my children can,
Can´t accept your helping hand. Leave me.
You are the strong one, trust in me
You must lead instead of me now
There´s no time, don´t hesitate, or
you will also find your fate
I feel the time is catching up with us...
In the eyes of every newborn, I see the future.
Life is just a phase, I close my eyes and see them
all here beside me, The last amazing grays...
In the eyes of every newborn,
I see the past times old familiar face.
I close my eyes and see them,
waiting for me amongst the Amazing Grays..
In the eyes of every newborn,
I see the past times. life is just a phase...
I close my eyes and see them all here beside me,
All the amazing grays..
Mountain sings to me for this last time,
marking the moment,
I have found my place,
I closed my eyes and joined them,
guarding the young, amongst the Amazing Grays...
I had this played at my fathers memorial service, he passed away a couple years ago. It's a beautiful song and I cry so hard every time I listen to it.
Thereisnosp00000n My condolences man much respect 2 ya
Much appreciated. Thanks mate!
Thereisnosp00000n --mmm so sorry to hear that.
Damn brother, from one that lost his father too, feel embranced. They are guarding us
They guarding us ,my brother.
This song make me feel like I can handle everything
For me, this is teh best song of "The Days of Grays"! i love it!!
Sometimes I just sit with a beer and listen to this album. I can just look at the artwork on the screen. I'll never understand why fans of the band sometimes can possibly call it garbage?? In my opinion, it's an incredible, moving masterpiece! It chills my bones and gets me rocking all at once. It's a monster!
their best album ever . Diamond and a masterpiece.
There is nothing worse than "Stones grow her name" album
I'd love the song anyway.
But now, in these days, when my formerly dark-brown hair slowly turns to gray, it's the wisdom of the lyrics that brings both tears into my eyes and hope into my heart.
One of the best songs I ever heard. One that even Sonata Arctica will find hard to beat.
last amazing grays, deathaura and draw me are certainly the best songs on The Days of Grays... but ALL SONGS ARE AWESOME, I can't stop crying with most of them!
I feel like im always rediscovering this song everytime i listen to it, so beautiful. Such an amazing band, like no others
A un dia de haberlos escuchado en Vivo aqui en Argentina.. Increible..
I have tried to listen other bands but Sonata Arctica is the only one in my heart. No one gets even close. Sonata Arctica's my everyday.
Wow, this is a much better version than most out here on youtube. really like how you can actually hear tony singing.
The song: C: Great!
The song is not only about wolves but also about the cycle of life. You can hear from the melodies that it even if overall tone is sad there is still hope and it raises towards the end.
One of the best songs ever written! Truly masterpiece :)
This is hands down my favorite song from Sonata Arctica, sometimes it just hits a bit too close to home...
i remember first listening to samples of this album and disliking it LOADS, but once i happened to just sit and listen to a few songs all the way through, i dug it. completely.
el mundo empieza y vuelve a empesar en cada nota. Es increíble.
i never really liked these guys...until i saw them in toronto because they were my brother's favourite band. and all i have to say is they are the definition of good music. Somebody asks what is good music? simple answer... Sonata Arctica! this shit is awesom
It's so nice, the word game they made in the lyrics: "Amzing grays" "Amazing Grace"
Really poetic
To be honest I wish those two below me kept fighting. Reading lyrics to such a great song is only entertaining for the first few times then after i need something else to do while listening to the song and reading these kind of comments is actually very entertaining.
me encanta este tema , no puedo describir lo que me hace sentir, simplemente puedo decir que es una belleza
this is one of the best out of these guys so far
Tony is a teacher, that song touches my soul and made me drop a tear! only, the metal gives me these emotions, thank God for being metalhead.
\ m /
This song is such a masterpiece, I love the piano it's touching and everything fits so well in this, it's an awesome song and I love it
This song brings me to tears. . . I don't want the wolves to die :(
im a wolf we will be here for a looooong time .... as my wolf mother says "ill be watching over you my child even when im gone ill be watching you from paradise"
Fuck you for making me cry with a single sentence.
his meaning to gray is life, growing old and gray, time passing by, aging, life is over...... children are leading the pack. kids are the fucking future! gray this age is gray and dying out onto another which will be machines so get ready. this is my all time favorite band that has changed my life and opened my eyes. look deeper, listen and feel
I love the lyrics to this song. It tells such a powerful story of the old wanting to sacrificethemselves to allow the young to continue. But they don't want to leave the old wolf behind. Then the wolf dies and their sprit runs among the rest of the pack protecting them. :)
y I think the style changed with this album, but this is (one of the) best song(s) they ever did. it's just sooo amazing... in the eyes of every newborn, I see the future....
This song is, in my opinion, one of the best song of sonata arctica, really awesome!
This song was AWESOME performed live in London on Friday...Sonata are the best!
oh, it's about wolves, now everything has a sense, I last very long time trying to understand the lyrics, Sonata Arctica is the only band that can make a wolves song into a masterpiece
God damn it! Why are people always cutting onions every time I play this song?
Linda, épica e marcante. Uma obra prima do Heavy Metal Melódico!
Only 4 haters? Sonata Arctica deserves way more haters. They're the greatest.
beautifull song.. masterpiece
ETERNAL LIFE TO WOLVES.
Certainly one of my best songs ever...
its about a man who is growing older and looking back at his life and realising that he doesnt have long left, pretty simple to understand
First time hearing this song, already a favorite
Great song! I love Sonata Arctica! Tony Kakko sings so beautiful!
I like to see it of an old wise man, realizing that his time has gone and he once young, in the golden days, is now faded to gray, that a new generation must find a brighter future and as he dies, he sees all his loved ones (also grays) and rejoin them looking for what they left behind. (The young ones). Sorry for the bad english
glad they chose this song as one of the ones to play at the show they had in hollywood. its a good song.
Best song from the album.
C'mon guys! Stop criticizing about Elias, he is a GREAT guitarist! So, grow up! We all miss Jani but he has his new project and is amazing! We have to accept that he ain't coming back! By the way, I ♥ this song!! It's my favorite of all of this album!!
Wow! I was blown away when he started singing about "In the eyes of every newborn!" I could feel every piece of my body screaming with emotion! This is beautiful!
this band will absolutely change your life!!!!!
The orchestra version holds so much more emotion, I highly suggest taking a look at that one, it can make you cry passionately.
You haven't felt a song till you've felt this one. :)
iI'm not SA fan but NW fan . Still I say album Days of grays is phenomenal work of beauty and genius! I find it so much better than any other SA album.
Absolute masterpiece.
Best Days of Grays song
Great song... sad lyrics but a riff full of positivity and hope...
And I am reminded of why I love this band so much...
I LOVE SONATA ARCTICA!
so beauty so cool so fresh
A meaningful song wrapped in awesome guitar riffs... EPIC!
excellent! black background and yellow that I really liked!
Simply beautiful
Beautiful Song
OMG. I love 'em. I always cry when I listen to their songs, but I need to listen to them while I'm writing my stories. Looking forward to see them in Italy again, 27th February in Milan *_*
I don't get why so many SA fans moan about basically every album after Reckoning Night. Sure, they played about with their styles and sounds for a while, but why not? I've listened to every album they've put out now and I don't think they've ever released what I'd regard as a "bad" album.
Sure, they're not all excellent, some have more memorable songs than others, but they're pretty good across the board to be fair. Fun and easy to listen to, instantly recognisable, decent stuff.
Unia
I love Sonata Arctica with all my life.. but I must say that Pariah's Child (sp?) did sound a bit generic to me. Every album is well written and well played but I feel as though that one was just rushed and seemed like the stereotypical power metal album with repetitive melodies and lyrics. What do you think?
I LOVE Pariah's Child. There are only like 2 songs that I don't like. And it's pretty much Sonata returning to their roots so if you like Ecliptica, Silence etc. you should like it too
Yeah, it seems like after years of their fans griping they went back to their old sound to appease them, only for their fans to start moaning that it sounded too familiar.
I love Ecliptica and Silence! I still feel that way about Pariah's Child though...
and that must suck if they really did go back to their old roots to appeal to those fans, I am excited for the new album coming soon!
When you listen closely, the song's about how the gray wolves (mainly the old generation) realizes their fate and one by one, they're slowing passing away, so they must pass on their duties on to the pups and whelps (mainly the young generation), hoping they would lead the remaining pack.
They Sing The Song Last Monday In The Netherlands,, AMAZING!!!!
I know what you mean...every band evolves. Nightwish, Blind Guardian, Stratovarius...it's been this ongoing progression forever. I just wish this band would have not changed....
Gray has two meanings: The Color, and a Wolf. Example? Look at Liam Neeson's The Gray. Also a pack usually refers to wolves. Not a pack of bears or leopards. One final point to make is that Sonata Arctica uses wolves in many of their album artwork and uses a wolf howling as the cover for the single released for this song.
this is a wonderful song!!!!!!!!!!!!
Oh wow, I had never noticed that before! Nice catch, man! It's so awesome to hear those little things. Rock on, brother.
amazing song
LOVE THIS SONG!! SONATA ARTICA RULES!!!
This is perfect
wow, heard this song countless times but I never actually noticed that!
The songs are extremely sad, but fantastic writing.
yes mee too, its just so epic, specially the part with the newborns... GREAT song!
I agree with you! The supposed wolf-thing is just metaphoric. Very cool though, one can think about two different things while reading the lyrics, wolfs and LIFE. But in the end it's not about wolfs but life
Blind Guardian have their own style and pure poetry as well. They are amazing and I personally like them more.
I think this is absolutely fantastic.
I think, if the name of the song were "The Last Amazing Gray" and don't say "us" but "me" I't could be even more emotional
Amazing, beautiful song, makes me feel like crying for some reason...
Aquaria was a power metal band from Brazil, they only released two albums, Luxaeterna and Shambala before going on hiatus indefinitely. However, their debut album Luxaeterna received extremely high praise. kamelot is a bit like dark moor, and as for nightwish, I'm a bit of a Marco Hietala fan myself.
Saw them play in Brisbane along with Ensiferum \m/ ... fantastic show... anyway... this meant a whole lot more for me when Tony explained what it was all about.
Simply amazing epic song. I love it so much :D
epic song. amazing.
@KingdomofReign i used to listen to rihana 3 years ago, and eminem 5 years ago. I am so glad i gave up pop/rap shit for metal! And Sonata Arctica are the first power metal bands I have ever listened to, and will be the only.
@TanjaE84 it was amazing performed live in Reading on Thursday as well :D just amazing.. Best band out there..
LONG LIVE SONATA ARCTICA !!
Sonata Arctica...It's special...orly
excellent work,thank you!
amazing..
@Balmattoy Well for starters it says at the beginning: "The Mystery of death before us". I don't think wolves ponder much about what goes on after death. Only because it says "Only the young will lead the pack now" doesn't mean it's about wolves. It's a metaphor that talks about the family in general. The way the poetic voice ponders about life and thinks about it's surroundings just doesn't cope with the feelings of a simple, but awesome, wolf.
@deltacadable Ah...Thank you very much. Makes perfect sense now!
yesterday we went to sacrifice my dog, as she was really really bad (old, blind, couldn't walk, she even peed herself...). I could only think about how much I will miss her... This song really makes me keep in peace with myself for a moment
Manullchin "sacrifice" is not the right word lol, made it seems like you're praising satan....
Better than dying slowly from the eventual organ failure like my old dog.
I think you meant that you had to put the poor creature down. I've been there myself a couple of years ago, stayed with my dog till the very end. Sonata's music always reminds me of her...and now someone's cutting onions again...
there are many other awesome power metal bands but yes this is my favourite :)
Blind Guardian, Rhapsody of fire, Helloween, Hammerfall, Iced Earth, Lost Horizon, Dream Evil, Deliverance, Manowar, Angel Witch, Stratovarius, Iron Maiden, Edguy, Dark Angel, Jaded Heart, Terasbetoni, etc. :D these are some heavy and power metal you should listen to if you like Sonata Arctica :D
Goin' to see them in a couple of days!!! Can't FUCKING WAIT!!!
favourite
i love this song
@snigelosenap Not many songs can make us laugh and cry... Those who actually can create such songs of emotions... They are truly admirable... Not many songs can make my eyes wet, but this song is a real masterpiece
you are so right man
the album artwork has a great message about the wolves
wonderful!!
@BloCKheadKamikaze also used to think that but i had it in my current gaming playlist and i have to say it really grows on you over time
true music
amazing, really good video and song
@diecasterofthespirit It comes from a deep passion for music, some songs come out so beautiful when completed that they inspire in these people (myself included) a deep sense of emotion, which can move the listener in a great manner, songs like this or similar have the ability to awaken these types of emotions
