Currently listening to this while putting away a truck order for my chipotle. Been watching you guys since last summer, just wanted to say thank you guys for all the knowledge
I have been watching all of your videos for so long now my wife even knows who you are. Just from hearing you guys talk and her being in the room. I send her your buyers guide videos every Christmas when it matches something I’m in need of. She says she uses it and she gets it right so I believe her. Lol
OK I just wanted to say. As soon as he said I have 4 Chatterbaits I paused the video. And said out loud, it must be a jackhammer, custom, cross-eyez and mini-max... Damn I'm in the zone this morning lol
For along time I only caught lmbs on a Carolina rig and a lipless. One day I took only 2 color chatterbaits out and a handful of trailers. Finally got one on the verge of quitting. Now I love them. Have a small box just for em. The big blade is really good as well.
Chatterbait is in my top 3 lures of all time. It’s truly incredible. I have always used the Zman Elite. I’ve now switched to saltwater since moving to the emerald coast. Chatterbait has landed me my 3 largest fish so far!
You guys are the best! Learned more from you guys than anyone else in the industry and caught my PB with your baits. Love the content and am excited to try the Hog Farmer Spunk Shad from my Hobie kayak
@TacticalBassin I recently purchased an Evergreen Jack Hammer and even though I haven't used it yet I'm EXCITED about what you said about the action starting IMMEDIATELY because I have other chatterbaits where I can feel it's not moving correctly unless I rip it like you said. I THOUGHT I was doing something wrong but it's nice to know I wasn't. I can't wait to try out the Evergreen Jack Hammer after watching this video.
Maybe it's just me and my pressured water but the chatterbait Freedom is straight money. I love being able to change out hook sizes and the freedom action with a big kicking swimbait is phenomenal. Plus being able to install EWG hook allows me to rig it weedless and significantly fewer snags.
The mini max in awesome. I can throw it on a medium fast baitcaster with no issues and it has a really fast startup which seems to be to do with the blade size. Also it has a solid variety of colors and sizes. If you want a cheaper option get the chatterbait mini.
I'm not going to lie the lakes I fish don't have monster bass like these guys catch so I take there advice ish, kinda why I started my channel to help people that fish our water, but I do love there content
K.I.S.S. Great Job Mighty Matt👍 I just got the 7’2”MHGA and the Curado MGL150 during Black Friday and I have the Loomis 853C. I placed a few orders this year through your links, and I believe you guys have earned and deserve All the success 💯 Happy Holidays to The Entire Tactical Bassin’ Families 🙏
Happy Monday Tactical Bassin'. Thanks for another great video. I throw chatterbaits, but they haven't become the confidence bait for me that they are for so many. Guess I haven't found my groove with them yet. Have plenty jackhammers and great trailers as well. Hopefully it will click one day soon!
I've actually had more good days with the original chatterbait than the jackhammer. That said, I have the Crosseyez and a couple other styles. Sometimes it's just a little different vibration or speed that's needed that you can only get with one kind. And with everyone throwing jackhammers, sometimes switching to a different head design or heavier bladed (standard chatterbait) is all it takes to go from no bites to hammering them.
I've been fishing for bass for about 5 years now and have yet to hook into a fish using a chatter bait, I'm going to buy the Jack hammer with the trailer you recommend because it looks awesome, hopefully it works, I'm going to make a video on it
Very amazed that you use an 844 for spinner bait. I have a 1996 IMX MBR 844 and I use it for jigs and creature baits and brush hogs large. Never dreamed to throw a spinner bait with it seems really stiff. I'm going to give it a try
Loved the info, thank you. Between you and Tim, you guys are always on top of things that are so helpful to the fishing community. Just wanted to say thank you and keep up the awesome work...
Ive always had a problem with the amount of $$$ those Jackhammers cost and could never justify why. After watching your explanation, It makes more sense. Gonna bite the bullet and get a few and see if it really makes a difference. Thanks for all you guys do !
I found a lot of confidence throwing jackhammers. My go to trailer is the Zman Razor Shad, even though they’re a massive pain to put on the hook. I also tried a Zako but didn’t like it as much because it doesn’t move as freely. I cannot stand glass rods so I was looking at the P5 Madbull. Ben at The Hookup said it’s his all time favorite casting rod and it’ll throw pretty much every moving bait
I have a P5 Madbull. AWESOME rod. Have it paired with a Metanium 150B. When the Jackhammers first came on the scene I went with the ZAKO's because they were designed as a jackhammer trailer. I was wondering why Matt and Tim moved to some new trailers. After seeing the video I can see why ! I thought my Christmas shopping was done :(
Kenneth, Isn't it amazing what a little underwater footage can do?! You think you know your bait and just a few seconds of actual viewing, your perception is permanently altered. We started comparing trailers underwater and now we have a lot of new favorites. 👍 Hunter, we actually haven't put much time on the Madbull, we need to give it some more water time. I'm not sure you can beat the models we're currently using but leave it to us... we'll find out 😉
Man this last season i struggled with a bladed jig most of the season, even in the prime time for it. I had a bit of success with it early back in March here in Illinois around some cypress trees. Besides that it was dead. Now I’m not normally a spinnerbait guy but this year I had some real good days with a spinnerbait even on days where I shouldn’t of been getting bit on a spinnerbait. I’m talking dog days of summer mid July middle of the day. But my best days were in the early season and into late October, and I did most of my damage with a 5/16oz finesse war eagle with a combo Colorado and turtle shell blade, it came with a gold Colorado and silver turtle shell but in the fall I had some cloudy rainy day tournaments that I changed the silver turtle shell out for a gold so it would show up better and it paid off with a couple first place finishes and a 2nd place!!
I fished my st Croix legend tourny elite LBC7 1 *MHEF* to death this year, it is their swim jig finesse rod. It was the first "higher end" rod I purchased since re kindling my love of chasing bass. Anyway, you can't say enough good things about technique specific rods when you've decided to go to the next level. Winding in a chatterbait the rod feels like an extension of your body, the sensitivity etc. That soft tip is a blast and the mid section powers through. Cheers
So glad you didn't mention my favorite small spinnerbait, they've been killing it for me since the fall transition and I've won a ton of money on them while everyone else can't get bit on a blade. They're hard enough to get now, and would be impossible if TB mentioned them. 😂
Good overview of these lures. Surprised neither of you had a Bantam for spinnerbaits, it is the one Shimano reel I own now and love it for spinnerbaits. The screaming eagle can be a killer on spotted bass as well as largies.
Vike tungsten bladed jigs are my go to downsized chatterbait. They do struggle to start vibrating and need an upgraded snap but they have a hunting action that is amazing! Try one. You can tank me later
Man I'm gonna go broke!! Every time I watch my account dwindles! You guys are freakin awesome though! Really appreciate your content and willingness to explain, educate and share knowledge. Love it!
By far my favorite bait is the jackhammer (THE HAMMER) lost a few but hit a school of smallmouth on the spot remover with the Z-man minnowz in bad shad
FYI the Nishine snaps are great, the Mini Max takes a size zero. Much better than the stock snaps that come on it. And I don’t know if it’s just me but it’s a pain getting snaps on and off, mine as well just use cutters to cut off.
Question on the mini chatter bait, is it the same quality as the jack hammer in terms of the blade starts as soon as I retrieve it? I pay the extra money and love the jackhammers for that reason. Got used to fishing them and don’t want to fish the mini wrong. Also would like to wish you both along with your families a very safe and enjoyable holidays. Y’all have helped me catch so many more bass with this channel and turned me on to baits I love that I didn’t know about. So the channel works to its full intentions. Look forward to watching y’all in 2022 and would love to meet y’all if and whenever you fish Austin Texas or the surrounding areas. There’s some big ones here in Texas just waiting on ya. 🎣
This was a great overview for both novice and experienced anglers. I did wonder however that you did not discuss the Picasso nor the Strike King Thunder Cricket. Was there any reason for the omission?
I’m new to bass fishing, kayak bass fishing, with trailers on chatter bait, would you use a craw or creature bait? Love these episodes. Keep them coming. Fishing the delta mainly also.
Tim I enjoy all your content and have learned alot. However I noticed that I don't see you mentioning berkely trailers or the yoto worm which I think the yoto worm gives great action & does catch all kinds of fish I just wondered why those haven't made your list or even honorable mentioned. Do share with me why that is. Thank you for your feed back.
I fish mostly from shore at my local lakes, and was unsuccessful in catching fish with a skirted chatterbait. I tried countless times....Then I watched a vid from another bass pro who said to remove the skirt from the chatterbait and put your fav trailer (Zman RazrShad) on, and I was starting to get bit. Now I gotta find a way to keep the fish on once I hook them...I probably need a more stout backboned rod.
Sounds like your local lake is a clear water fishery? If you're finding success with a shirtless chatterbait you'd probably find even more success by dropping down to an underspin swimbait.
@@tacticalbassin Thanks for the tip! Yes, I fish in fairly clear water....I have plenty of underspins...I’ll have to retry them again....I’ve been doing well this time of year on lipless (TN70’s) and 3/4 Oz blades (Binskys)...those are my fav to fish and cover lots of water further out from the shoreline....but they do pickup more grass in the lake, so I convert my treble hooks to double hooks to minimize weed hangups.
Can’t tell you guys just how pleased I’ve been with the MH Glass Expride when throwing the jackhammers! I’ve caught dozens of fish on it without a single fish coming unbuttoned! It’s everything as advertised by TB and will absolutely bomb cast a 3/8 oz bait! Also a great Rock Crawler rod! As always, thanks Tacticalbassin!
Love your channel! I’ve been subscribed for several years now and you have been extremely helpful in upping my bass fishing knowledge! Question, could you do something on spooling your reels? What knots do you use, do you use tape on your spools, do you use backing, any specific techniques for winding off of the spools? Love to know what you guys do.. thanks!
The St Croix Victory 7’3 MH that Matt reviewed earlier this year is an absolutely badass spinnerbait rod. St Croix is really good at those softer tip actions and that particular rod is a lot like an MBR and just a tad bit stronger than the 843
What do you guys think about the Picasso line of chatterbaits? Also I have the 7’2 expride mh glass and was wandering what other techniques you like for this rod? Always enjoy Monday Wednesday Friday mornings and learning something new. Thanks guys!
Thanks Alex! The Picasso line is confusing, to be honest. So many options, all with different purposes... but we're getting to know each one as time goes on. We love some of their underspins so its only right to explore the bladed jigs. That glass rod is a great all around cranking rod as well 👍
Line type / lb recommendation? The war eagle finnese 5/16oz spinnerbait is my new go to. Currently using 10 lb big game on a medium power fast action rod. Ponds and small lakes mostly.
Can you put a soft plastic swimbait on the screamin eagle??? I don't see much of a hook shank on that spinner bait. What trailer can you put on it and what size??? Thank you
Need a question answered. I don't tie on every lure, I use clips (eg VMC touch-lok snaps). Is there a good way to loop the portion of the wire where you tie on? Most of my muskie gear (1-2oz) and some of the bargain brand come this way. The only good way I've found so far is to put a small split ring over the end and bend it out a bit. Thoughts?
I bought a bunch of stuff after watching your swimbait episode. Why did I order the 20lb maxima ultra green for, Top water? Should I have gotten fluorocarbon? 168 s waver,6" 3d savage, keitech light hitch, gambler electric one. Concept 13 a2 etc. Jig head for the hitch or 3" beast.
I know off subject from this video but how do you guys put the owner ST-35 designed for crank baits on your mega bass deep six and deep 300 on? I noticed when put on they don’t line up like they should on the back. Do you guys add a split ring to the back to have them sit the way they are suppose to by chance? Thank you guys.
Super video Matt, would love to have either of the rods you and Tim use but they are beyond my means. Any rod recommendation in the $50 to $100 range? Thanks for your expertise.
BTW check out the Savage Gear Battletek Vibrating Jig Rod. Overall great rod for throwing both Chatterbait/Spinnerbait rod, especially around grass. It has 20% glass in the tip. Super light weight at 5.1oz, very sensitive. Check them out
The Screamin Eagles were way better when they were made in the USA. I don’t understand why War Eagle discontinued the Bone/Chartreuse color. That color was fire! I think they might of discontinued it when they sold out to Pradco but I’m not sure? I have been looking for that old color in every tackle shop. Don’t sleep on those finesse Accent spinnerbaits!
What makes you choose that IMX Pro BJR instead of a composite or glass rod? Do you think that G Loomis rod has the rubber band feeling of that Dobyns 734H Glass?
Nevermind searched the comments and found the answer... love all you do with exception I now find myself spending more money on the little things I didn't think mattered(,split rings, upgrades, rigging parts), and I'm buying gram scales to weigh my stuff lol... the knowledge gained and the improvement to the game is worth it. Thanx again
Was wondering if TB has gotten their hands on one of the G.loomis SBR spinnerbait rods. I know they have IMX pro and GCX now, would you still go for an MBR taper? Also, do you guys boat flip your spinnerbait fish?? I found myself reaching for the net more after bending out too many this year.
It definitely depends on the spinnerbait. Some can take the flip, some can't. Neither of us have put hands on the new SBR rods but I still own the old version. Personally, I really like the MBR actions for a spinnerbait 👍
I really like spinner baits but I feel like they don’t swim through the water very well. Almost like they have a lot of friction through the water. Any suggestions. Maybe try a small one? Thanks.
Completely off topic, but is mend it still your preferred way to repair soft plastic swimbaits? On topic, have you tried any of the angry dragon chatterbaits?
I'm a smallmouth junkie would the mini-max in 1/4 ounce with the 3.5 spunkshad be a good finneese option if every body is throwing the 3/8 and 1/2 ounce if so what rod action and length and line do you recommend I'm fishing with a 12' kayak
Base the weight on how deep you're fishing. A 1/4oz with a trailer would still be at least a 3/8oz bait combination, if not 1/2oz so same rods would work.
If you guys are looking for another rod/reel to review check out the Abu Garcia MaxToro I just picked up the combo the other day at a local sporting goods store for $99 the reel alone retails for $149 so I got steal on it lol from what I understand it's a musky set up but I feel like it could also be a decent big jig hook and weedless swimbait rod in a pinch I'm gunna have to find out for myself I guess cuz I can barely find any information on it that's not in swedish or something 😂
How do you need a crankbait rod and a spinnerbait rod to differ? My Dobyns champion xp 765 crankbait rod I just picked up says it can throw spinnerbaits, will it do it well enough that it can play double duty? Just asking because I trust you guys more than the rod company, thank you.
That soft tip section works great for both spinnerbaits and crankbaits. The difference is a spinnerbait eventually needs to get to back bone so you can firmly plant that jig hook... a crankbait needs to keep on flexing to absorb head shakes with trebles. I haven't thrown that particular model unfortunately but my gut would be to go to a shorter rod, that way even if it was a little light for the spinnerbait you could flex through the mid and reach the power section sooner for the spinnerbait. I hope that makes sense!
Been catching them on a green gizzard mini max with a Berkley "The Deal" trailer. They won't eat the jackhammer but they will eat the mini max! BOOM! THE JUICE IS LOOSE!
I threw a straight up green pumpkin jackhammer with a green pumpkin trailer and caught over 100 fish in a month and a half. After the spawn I tried every color, weight and trailer and never caught another fish on it for the rest of the year. Super confusing
Isn't it strange when things like that happen?! Something pivoted just a little and you zigged when you needed to zag. Hopefully you get a 2nd crack at it this Spring and you're able to figure out what the right adaptation is.
@@tacticalbassin the grass flipping bite turned on and never slowed down until water got into the mid 40s. the moving bite died and never came back. strange stuff.
As much as I love the OG Chatterbait, I would have to say my favorite "bladed jig" is the Googan Squad Clickbait. Thing is loud with a nice thump to it and pretty responsive. But I could see that bein its own thing tho. Jus my opinion. Awesome video! 🤘🏻
Chatterbait Custom is hands down the most bang for your buck - Jackhammmer is a beast though.
That Custom is an awesome option! Sometimes that shorter shanked hook is just what you need as well. Thanks man!
Mikey Alex love your channel as well, great stuff!!

Its been a while since we've done something like this. It wouldn't hurt to do a fresh one. Thanks for the feedback, John.
@@tacticalbassin Thanks guys! Appreciate it!!
I’m hoping to use the mini max to target smallmouth this spring and into summer!
Yep! It should be perfect for that!
The St Croix Victory 7’3 MH that Matt reviewed earlier this year is an absolutely badass spinnerbait rod. St Croix is really good at those softer tip actions and that particular rod is a lot like an MBR and just a tad bit stronger than the 843
The 7’3 H victory is kinda like an 844 as well, the “extra fast” rating st croix gives it is a total misnomer. It has a soft tip as well
What do you guys think about the Picasso line of chatterbaits?
I throw the 5/16oz war eagle in mouse on a lews Mach pro medium heavy with 15lb Fluro
One day ima be the 1st like to the new vid damn yall get it in early nice vid Matt
Can you put a soft plastic swimbait on the screamin eagle??? I don't see much of a hook shank on that spinner bait. What trailer can you put on it and what size??? Thank you
Would you use the same rod for chatterbait and regular jigs?
Thank you guys.
guys need to check out the Omega Rapture Bladed jig and Genesis TI SB...
Super video Matt, would love to have either of the rods you and Tim use but they are beyond my means. Any rod recommendation in the $50 to $100 range? Thanks for your expertise.
I'm in heaven. I love chatterbaits and I have most of them. I will be going out this week trying to see if I can catch my PB. Great video.
I broke/knocked loose a snap on my jackhammer twice. Figure I'll be fine making my own and using high quality jigs
BTW check out the Savage Gear Battletek Vibrating Jig Rod. Overall great rod for throwing both Chatterbait/Spinnerbait rod, especially around grass. It has 20% glass in the tip. Super light weight at 5.1oz, very sensitive. Check them out
Thanks for the heads up! We'll check it out 👍🏼
What do you guys think of the Champion XP 735 glass? I’m thinking about picking one up
The Screamin Eagles were way better when they were made in the USA.
Cross eyez? Or craw size?
One of the great conundrums of our time.
Have you guys tried out the glass rods from the SLX line yet as a budget chatterbait rod?
What makes you choose that IMX Pro BJR instead of a composite or glass rod? Do you think that G Loomis rod has the rubber band feeling of that Dobyns 734H Glass?
When would you use a "finesse wire" spinnerbait VS a "standard wire" bait?
Do you cut wire connector off the chatterbait customs and put the Nishine snaps on or do you fish the stock wire connection?
I've done pretty well with that stock wire actually. 👍
Question I have a 7'6 medium heavy fast would it be a good deep crank rod
This is good and all but the three lakes around my town don't have shad they have perch and bluegill
Thoughts on the Jackhammer Stealth blade?
How about using the IMX PRO 845 CBR for Chatterbait ?
Do y’all use the Booyah Covert spinnerbaits? What’s your opinion on them?
What size snap for the chatterbait?
What size nishine snap. 0 1 or 2? Thanx for all you guys do
Nevermind searched the comments and found the answer... love all you do with exception I now find myself spending more money on the little things I didn't think mattered(,split rings, upgrades, rigging parts), and I'm buying gram scales to weigh my stuff lol... the knowledge gained and the improvement to the game is worth it. Thanx again
We're happy to help!
What size snap do you go with when swapping out?
Thanks.
Will you be at the east tenn fishing show this January
We're not sure yet... we're trying to pull it off.
Me and mine are trying to swing Saturday.
MB z man box this month. Cross eyes in it
Completely off topic, but is mend it still your preferred way to repair soft plastic swimbaits?
On topic, have you tried any of the angry dragon chatterbaits?
I'm a smallmouth junkie would the mini-max in 1/4 ounce with the 3.5 spunkshad be a good finneese option if every body is throwing the 3/8 and 1/2 ounce if so what rod action and length and line do you recommend I'm fishing with a 12' kayak
Yeas but in my opinion it would be better to go to 3/8 or 1/2 oz
Base the weight on how deep you're fishing. A 1/4oz with a trailer would still be at least a 3/8oz bait combination, if not 1/2oz so same rods would work.
If you guys are looking for another rod/reel to review check out the Abu Garcia MaxToro I just picked up the combo the other day at a local sporting goods store for $99 the reel alone retails for $149 so I got steal on it lol from what I understand it's a musky set up but I feel like it could also be a decent big jig hook and weedless swimbait rod in a pinch I'm gunna have to find out for myself I guess cuz I can barely find any information on it that's not in swedish or something 😂
what size Nishine snap works best?
The larger size
@@tacticalbassin It does make sense, thank you!
What size Swimon is used on a full size chatterbait, 3.75 or 4.25?
4.25
Super Thanks!
And the down size mini max will use the 3.75, correct?
Yes, first lol!
The snaps come in multiple sizes. What size do you recommend?
The larger 👍🏼
How long is your leader on your chatterbait setup?
6-8 feet.
As much as I love the OG Chatterbait, I would have to say my favorite "bladed jig" is the Googan Squad Clickbait. Thing is loud with a nice thump to it and pretty responsive. But I could see that bein its own thing tho. Jus my opinion. Awesome video! 🤘🏻
The mini-max chatterbait I think is the same exact size as the micro chatterbait just with the better components.
Better components and a MUCH stronger hook.
What size snaps do you use on your chatterbaits?
In the Nishine we use the larger snap.
