    Bare root locust, redbud, maple, mulberry and pecan can be had from US, in North East Oklahoma. We are about done shipping trees for the season, however, and we don't ship potted trees.

    8:18 I think you mean UN-inhabitable for the Bermuda Grass. I love how planting clover and other cover crops tips the scale in favor of the plants you want, so that instead of fighting against the Bermuda grass, you’re working towards your crops doing well. The shift might not be instantaneous, but it happens and takes minimum effort.

    I didn't know there was a way if getting rid of Bermuda grass. I have that nasty stuff everywhere. The roots are huge, long and crawl under the soil with black out tarps held down with sand bags to find sunlight. It blows my mind at how strong it is.

    I’ve been making my own compost for three years. I don’t have any manure. It is straight carbon and scraps leaves do water it a lot and this year it came out beautiful that I’m actually using. I made three I don’t know 60 gallon buckets I just started a new batch and I turned it today and put water on it. Put a bunch of newspaper brown paper bags that I had , so it works even though I don’t have manure it dry from broken down leaves and just scraps and I’m a big pretty good big cook so I have plenty of scraps vegetables fruit you know, pineapple, scraps, lettuce, scraps tomato, and when I turned some of my soil today was already ready to start I amended a few tubs that I have and I was happy to see a bunch of red worms worms in my soil and a bunch of babies so that makes me happy. I think I’m doing something right so just wanted to tell you and I feel like I do learn a lot from y’all this is my fourth year and I’m getting better. It was very successful with carrots this year and I just planted a bunch of new carrots. I’m still, working on garlic and onions can you give us tips on how to get some great garlic and onions?

    Permaculture Q&A: Do you have any advice on how to manage poison ivy? Our farm had been neglected for several years and we are working on getting it all back going the right direction but have several areas where the poison ivy is spreading like mad. We have one patch that is covering about 1/8 of an acre. The sheep and goats like it but My kids and myself react to it and would love to keep the plant in a more moderate quantity if possible. We are in central NC if that makes a difference

Do I need to remove it from around the other plants? Does it take away too many nutrients? Or can it be used as a cover crop?

    After my dad's death, a couple years of overhead watering (can't figure out his complex watering set-up) on our previously very productive but small NorCal Market Garden has allowed the horsetail weed that was already here to spread and spread and spread. Is there a good permaculture method to help get rid of it? It is toxic to my now 2-year-old chickens I would like to let graze there! Can clover also work against horsetail????

    Hey William. Planted fruit trees a few years ago, but they kept getting decimated by deer (yes, I put some in the freezer). But I also used bone sauce (thanks Billy!) and enclosed the garden/orchard in fencing too. We are building a food forest among those trees. Thanks for all the prior videos!
    #PermacultureQandA - in SC we have terrible fire ants. The orange oil recipe is not great. Neither is the borax recipe. Boiling water does not seem to work. Permethrin works (but is synthetic). What might I use to tamp down these agents of satan? I don't need my 21 month old nor my 9 year old getting covered while helping in the garden or food forest. Thanks!

      Hey Daniel. We here in Florida use baking soda. Mix up a batch with half baking soda and powdered sugar. Put it on and around the mound. Takes a few days to work. For immediate results.... spread a generous amount of baking soda and pour white vinegar on it. Either method works and they have not returned to that area for over a year now.

    #permacultureQ&A 1. Could you explain what types of trees and plants are best for Perma-Pasture? What are some spacing strategies, and how does your strategy differ based on what will be grazing? I saw you utilized an existing wooded area and thinned it to let light in, but I am referring to transforming an open field.
    2. Do any deer proofing strategies actually work? We have heavy pressure in Appalachia. I planted a lot of blackberries and raspberries in the woods to hopefully keep them away from my apples. I’ll have to let you know how this attempt plays out.

    Temple Texas is NOT west Texas. It is CENTRAL Texas.The Central Texas Region includes three metropolitan statistical areas (MSAs): the College Station-Bryan MSA comprising Brazos, Burleson and Robertson counties; the Waco MSA comprising Falls and McLennan counties; and the Killeen-Temple MSA comprising Bell, Coryell and Lampasas counties.West Texas is a loosely defined region in the U.S. state of Texas, generally encompassing the arid and semiarid lands west of a line drawn between the cities of Wichita Falls, Abilene, and Del Rio.

    it'll take time for the microbes to move anywhere; think how small they are. compost teas and foliar feeding might provide quicker results.

    • @srantoniomatos
      @srantoniomatos 6 месяцев назад

      In a square inch of soil there are bilions of microbes(bacterias, fungus, etc). Even if you kill all vegetation with herbicides.
      If you add water and food (organic matter, or even sintetic fertilizers) "microbes" will grow instantly. Grow and die. Many of them have a life span of minutes. Even seconds. Microbes are everywhere. Always. Even in our mouth, after washing it with chemical products.

Is it possible to use that pear tree to start permaculture around it. I also have some areas where trees were removed but the hole was not filled. I have thrown a few half rotted logs in there, would it be beneficial to add in some green material to help it break down. Lastly how do you keep ants and termites at bay. On the face of it, it doesn't make sense. It seems like you're getting stuck in the same loop that you would with traditional fertilizers. I want to avoid having to constantly reapply homemade fertilizers. That being said, I'm interested in looking at some of the fertilizers under a microscope.

    Gotta disagree about the Bermuda grass, it thrives in compost piles, woodchip piles, amazing garden beds full of clover and soil life, and crappy compacted clay walkways. Even double layering cardboard if there is a crack Bermuda grass will find it and shoot a stem up from the rhizomes that grow under every barrier I've tried

    • @srantoniomatos
      @srantoniomatos 6 месяцев назад

      Cardboard will not kill bermuda, nor any rizhome type grasses. Nor will "cover crops".
      Anyway, all this talk about "microbes" (what microbes: bacteria, fungus, which ones, how many?) Is totally unbased. As it is the "bacteria x fungal dominated soil" theories.

    • @ThePermacultureConsultant
      @ThePermacultureConsultant  6 месяцев назад
