Hearing that most of the game's problems came from Tony Huynh himself and not the greedy suits at WB was not something I expected

It makes sense Zaslav has (at least historically) been a big advocate for the gaming division and I doubt the gaming division really forced them to do anything besides add micro-transactions (sure they could theoretically fire Tony and add a Yes Man but that would have been hard as Tony had turned himself into the games Sakurai). When it comes to the actual implementation of stuff that would all fall upon Tony.
WB telling the defs to put a real life voice actor into Multiversus is unironically like if Nintendo told Sakurai he had to add Doug Bowser to the roster of Smash 6

I just found a recent post from someone on discord who manage to leak the list of characters that were planned to release after lola and aquaman, most of them are characters that we knew they were coming and others are new, the sad part of this list is that most of them were already done while the others is unknown if they were done or not, here's the list:

@meganintenbro Wicked was from Universal, not Warner. They could've negotiated a collab with them, sure, but I don't think Universal wanted to collab with a game that was constantly criticized and mocked by everyone.

The biggest turn off for me with Multiversus was that the characters weren't unlockable for free without sinking ridiculous amounts of time into the game to get every single character on the roster. Idk I wish it would have been like the other platform fighters where they're all playable in every mode from the get go or some easier way of unlocking them than just mining in game currency, it just feels so soulless.

Which is both sad and funny because certain aspects of Lola's game play would be great for Daffy with a bit of reworking
That's really unfortunate to hear, the original pre-release promotion really had the hype going but they unfortunately lost all that momentum when they went on hiatus for the relaunch. And after the proper relaunch, I didn't really hear anything more on the game, so it lacked good promotion to keep the ball rolling with the new content. And of course, with the main focus on online play, it sucks that it'll only be playable offline afterward!
Untapped potential, beyond sad. I love Multiversus, the game could have been so amazing under proper leadership. The game simply needed to prioritize adding internet breaking characters & get gameplay to healthy spot that appeals to the broad fighting game community. Multiversus would've thrived and been an outstanding lively game if handled properly. This is such a shame... I wish WB would sell MVS to a different leadership
Multiple people losing their jobs and players being effectively scammed is bad. But at least the tea is gonna be high quality, you know the Matt McMuscles' video on this is gonna bang

I find it hilarious that Tony’s intense gooning habits lead to his mismanagement of the game. I mean, hey, who doesn’t like to goon. But get your work done first, Tony!
They should have pulled a street fighter 2 & added a “turbo mode” that replicates the gameplay speed of the beta.
The playerbase was instantly divided by that launch, especially being an iron Giant player, lol.

WB is one to blame. The devs obviously did their best, but it was WB that decided to turn the tides around. As always. I mean, the same thing is happening to MK1. After the final DLC character arrives, that game is done for good.

The main reason Nick got a sequel was that the first one was SO successful. Multiversus failed, so I unfortunately don't see it happening.
No way WB is ever investing into a game like this again
I think if they decide to go down this route again they might just do a Punch Time Explosion sequel. If that, the recent trend of platform fighter failures has not been painting a good picture for the future of the genre (especially from major publishers).

They did add shields and a way to buy all the characters for like 39.99 with discounts for each character you already had, but nobody really cared cuz they didn't advertise it well.

Screw Smash Ultimate with more characters, I want Smash Ultimate with more modes, more specifically, single player, I want things like Smash Run and Melee Adventure, even a Subspace-like platforming set of levels, even just adding a Boss Rush mode with the alerady existing bosses would be great, not to mention Break The Targets at least as Brawl made it, proper All-star or Bomb Smash
21:30 I think it's because just like with the MCU and everyone trying to make a Cinematic Universe these companies just aren't willing to put the nessisary time into actually building it up as well as relying too much on nostalgia and failing to bring newcomers into their ecosystem
Nearly every character in Smash is a promotional tool for either their own franchise or Smash itself but take NASB, for anyone currently watching Nickelodeon how many characters were from ACTUALLY airing shows, it was pretty much JUST SpongeBob and the Loud House and if you weren't watching those 2 specific shows as a newer fan of Nickelodeon the game just didn't have anything for you
, it would be like if Mario and Splatoon were the only franchises in Smash currently getting new games
Multiversus set it's scope far too wide to start with that there were a ton of people I've seen simply waiting for their certain fairly mainstream WB franchise to even show up before they decided to even try the game that just didn't
And at this point in order to actually compete with Smash you're also going to need to launch with a base roster at MINIMUM the size of Brawl's
1:00:47 yeah there's 2 bug reasons O don't see "Ultimate Deluxe" as even a possibility
#1. Licencing, there's far too much 3rd party content to risk approving for a project that can fall through should anyone say no when Special is already playable on the same system which is point #2, backwards compatibility I think there likely will be cuts but it will be like before where they're replaced with other characters for a roster that's still the same size as Special's at its ending if not bigger at launch
The only way I the roster being smaller is if it has to be to work with the games big marketing gimmick like a full blown rpg like story mode where everyone's involved like Project X Zone or a move to 3D like Power Stone something that sets it fundamentally apart from Special to justify the purchase to everyone who already bought Special and it's DLC
To be fair, there aren't that many newer Nick cartoons that have any staying power, because they only really air Spongebob or the Loud House. They're either very hated, obscure, or both. Most of Nick's biggest cartoons are their legacy ones.

@LelouchOnTwi I just do it because I got tired of too many people trying to argue that they created it with the intent of it being the final one because they called it "Ultimate" completely ignoring the fact that the people who actually made the game didn't call it that or the "how are they going to go past Ultimate without a reboot?" argument
When the people who made it called it Special simply because "Everyone is here" and that's what makes it special
Tbh when I got on the game during the actual release and I already saw how much of a grind it was going to be just to unlock the roster it really turned me off from the game, I'm sure if I was into the game more I would have had other issues with the game but man that point there was just terrible for me
They should get away from the free to play model and just re release the full game with all the characters unlocked plus new characters, stages and modes for a retail price.
I understand wanting refunds for the character tickets or stuff but wanting refunds for everything is just dumb. You should always go into a live service game with the expectation of it might shut down one day.
They should give us refunds for the tickets or if they’re making the game offline anyway they can release all the skins

i think the all the characters that were mentioned in different places were to get ahead of leakers and put out false info, and i think static was scrapped when they realized wb doesn't actually own the character static and wb was just licensing the ip from milestone comics and wb most likely said no to static because they didn't want to pay milestone comics more fees to use static
This, in fact the leaks were full of characters that WB either didn't own or only had partial ownership of.

Yeah, every character is playable
IF even half of the stuff about Tony turns out to be true I can guarantee you that he had his eyes set on the prize. he seems like the kind of guy that, even if Multiversus succeeded (in fact ESPECIALLY if Multiverses succeeded), would leave the game and try to Sakurai's place after Sakurai retired. Heck I wouldn't be surprised if they had planned on pitching to Nintendo at some point if WB games didn't pick the game up and bought the studio.

Glad to see your back, shame its for such bad news. I haven't played MultiVersus in a long time but I kept hoping they would get their act together. Here's hoping we hear some Smash news this year.

@elemomnialpha I don't know, not only is he very requested even after his peak, but his remake did VERY well, better than other recent games that got reps like Arms and Xenoblade 2. Plus, after Ridley, K Rool, Banjo, and Sora getting in the last game, there's not that many characters that big left especially for base game which are usually more Sakurai oriented choices, so I think it could happen.

Listen, I HATED this game, it's one of the worst games I ever played, but it is sad. It's a game that many people do love, and while I don't, others losing the ability to experience a game they love is a tragedy. Also, this game DID have potential, and seeing that potential lost forever with very little chances of ever coming back is sad.

I didn't have it on my 2025 bingo card to hear a wannabe RUclipsr who is struggling growing his channel (and had to use illegal leaks to get any sub) saying "marketing is easy".
Then, he goes on confusing marketing with sales (two different fields) and cannot explain "total addressable market" (TAM), which is what he was talking about when fumbling around why platform fighters don't usually succeed.

Rivals of Aether has to be the lamest crossover fighter. Who the hell makes a crossover fighter where 90% of the fighters are OCs made in MS Paint??
Huh? Rivals was never a crossover really like Smash. It was like other fighting games where it focused on original IP, you had like Shove Knight and that was about it unless you counted the workshop which was mods.
Its not much a crossover fighter, and more just a platform fighter, it's sequel literally has no crossover characters, just because it plays like smash doesn't mean it has to be a crossover game.
