I bet they put the price up cuz of christmas, I’ve noticed a lot of things dearer since last week than they normally are. Looks lovely though. Merry christmas to you both and your family and happy new year 😊xx
I buy shin beef slices from morrisons about £4 each pack and cook in pressure cooker but deffo going ask my butcher for a whole shin. I loved it as a kid used think it was called chin beef much to our butchers amusement. Make fab stews and casseroles so tasty. Thanks Keith another idea to do with a product. Have a good xmas and see you in the New Year.x
Merry Christmas Keith and Nat. Looks absolutely delicious 😋. 5 people 🤔🤔🤔. Why would they tell you to get rid of the juices 😮😮 mate 👎🏻👎🏻. Going to miss the live chat again to early for me 😔
Merry Christmas! My wife and I cooked a Christmas dinner for 70+ people on the 16th of December. The menu was marinated pork loin centers, garlic roasted mini potatoes, and mixed vegetables, gluten free gravy and regular gravy mix. It was tasty, there weren't many leftovers.
Shin of beef, might typically cost £6- £9 / per kg, as raw, sorry but £12 for this seems too much to pay, especially as this item has so much cooking juice to throw away, which is a part of the weight on the back of box, the 1KG, plus a sachet of gravy. I hope all retailers will keep their on line prices up-to-date, a two quid increase is significant. You mention, making you're own in the New Year, that sounds like a great idea, and hopefully it will make a good video. Best wishes for happy holidays, and a good New Year.
for the £10 or more cost. when some of the 1kg weight is the gravy. there are loads of joints of meat for less per a KG. the iceland website now states £12. 850g is meat 150g is gravy. but the 1hr 10 min cooking with that additional costs on top of the price. would be better to pressure cooker it. for 20 min and massively cut the cooking time and costs.
I just looked online and it says £12.00 so maybe they have changed the price. In case anyone doesn't know, if you are over 60, have a bonus card and shop on a Tuesday you get 10% off. That wasn't aimed at you Kieth. x Merry Christmas everyone
Shin's a great cut, Keith. Add a bit of cheese and it's a kinda Philly Steak. I'm with Nat. I'd have the gravy in a bowl for French dipping. £12kg's a good price too. I cook shin in me pressure cooker 'til it's fall apart tender🤤.
Yummy I would have sliced that and soaked the whole thing in the gravy like they do in Philidelphea usa.. ooo yeah I need yo get one of these. Have you tried aldis new frozen mash, it's brilliant l.. I used yo pike fun at a mate for using frozen mash but it's brilliant if you don't wanna use a whole potato and waste food 😊
An idea would be to put the sealed beef and gravy in some hot water to defrost before cooking and cut the time required to cook which I've done in the past...have a nice Xmas my friend.
£12 for shin is a crime. That's literally the cheapest muscle cut you can buy and has been used for centuries for meat pies and things. It has gone up in price over the years but it's still an extremely cheap cut. Nothing wrong with it, and it's brilliant for slow cooking, but it ain't luxury. Also telling you discard the juices should be a criminal offence. Why the hell would they tell you to do that??? That's like telling you to drain baked beans
Keith why don’t you defrost frozen meat items? If an item is frozen ,and you would like to remove the plastic, just run it under the tap for a few seconds,it will slip out of the bag,no need to fight the packaging, same with the gravy defrost in hot water, and it will pore out of the bag.Why discard the juices from the meat, all the goodness in there.Glad it was a tasty meal, see you tomorrow.
Love shin beef always tender💯😊
