Like all hearty stews, beef bourguignon has its origins in the Middle Ages when it offered a way to tenderise tough meat and provide sustenance for many. But the recipe didn't reach French restaurants until 1903 when the king of chefs, Auguste Escoffier, published its ingredients and method.
I've just bought a slow cooker it's brilliant 100 watts max some kettles are 3000 and slow cookers aren't that slow the recipes can be taken out sooner than they say! About £25 from Aldi
I like slow cooker for some things but from useing my Pro King pressure cooker i prefer the texture of the meat. It always seems that the meay becomes stringy when chunks and slightly hard when cooler. Dont know if this is user fault but done some bazzing shin beef casseroles in my pressure cooker and a pork ghoulash absolutely lovely friends eaten too and said same. 30 mins after prep and pressure build so can make a dinner in less than quarter the time and power it would have been. Get one and have a go lot got saute funtion now so a one pot wonder i always thought ow cook the best but not to sure now.x
What a meal man! I could eat that everyday during the winter-don't think my lady could though. We're going to make this real soon! Thanks for the share!
Hello Keith & Natalie just asking you if you both up to a cooking challenge??? The challenge is to register for a Sainsbury’s Nectar Card go to your nearest Sainsbury’s Store look for the largest 1.9kg raw whole chicken which is selling at £4 each with the nectar card. Now the challenge is to create as many different meals as you can with the whole chicken over a few days . One draw back you must only use the ingredients and food you have in your cupboards ,pantry , fridge vegetable rack or even from your garden you have grown. Each different meal gets you ten points . Even still you get a bonus point if you can provide some chicken leftovers for your dog !! Now we have managed to do it by cooking a 1.9 kg whole chicken ( raw) in our Cosori Smart dual blaze Air fryer. First meal myself & Jean made hassleback potatoes with frozen sweetcorn and slices of chicken with a bit of gravy. Second night I had a homemade chicken curry made with the Mayflower curry sauce with shallots and frozen peas and Basmati rice. There is enough chicken curry left over for tomorrow night to have with a baked potato from the freezer for me. Now our dog has had two helping of chicken to night and last night. So it can be done. This is budget cooking at its finest and very best . Try it Keith . Look online the large whole chicken are retailing at £4 with a nectar card from Sainsbury’s. Worth a try . You could make meals like soup stews curries pizza pies or have it plain . It’s about really using a lot of chicken to make as many meals from the one big chicken costing you no more than £4 . Any items added is of no extra cost because it’s already bought and it’s in your kitchen to use up . I dare you to try it.

Bangin' Boeuf Bourguignon, Buddy💥! Mash is pefect with it, but I'd need some sprouts an' all. Sprouts are top👍
Looks pretty good and I put small shallots in for an bit of onion flavour when I make it.
And a half bottle of nice burgundy , might have to kept tasting wine to see if was suitable then open fresh bottle to accompany it .

Merry Xmas to you and Natalie. When I make this in my slow cooker, I fancy rice over mash. Most importantly, it's homemade which saves a few quid!
