Sorry for the loss of your sister. Well done for getting through the WAN show. I hope you did it because you wanted to and felt it was right and she would've wanted you to continue. We would've understood if we needed to break up the streak for this.
The streak can end when *I'm* the one who is dead. My sister extremely proud of me and Yvonne and what we've accomplished and would have been 100% on board with us keeping the streak alive. She was the bomb. Some folks actually met her at LTX when she helped us run booths. - LS
@@LinusTechTips She was absolutely right to be proud of you and Yvonne. You’ve achieved what few achieve, and managed to remain humble throughout. I hope that everyone gives you the privacy and any time you need, and that nobody attempts to try find out any information regarding her passing as that is not for anyone to know but her family as it is extremely disrespectful and nobody needs to know. You are in the public eye, you did sign up for that life, but you are still entitled to privacy in certain circumstances like this. We’ll all understand if a few things are slightly off, or if you’re not as cheery in some videos. You could see in your face from the start that you were dealing with something. (Not as an insult!). My thoughts are with you, Yvonne and the kids and the rest of your immediate family.
@@LinusTechTipsoh my god that’s very unfortunate.. sorry for your loss I genuinely cannot imagine keeping myself this composed if something like that happened to me.. I wish you and your family the best and hope you get through this difficult time

Hey Linus just wanted to say I find it quiet impressive how well you are managing considering your loss. I wish you all the best. Take care of your loved ones and yourself.
@@Anonymus_celebrity The reason the wan show was early is because he had a death in the immediate family, he did specify that wifey and kids are fine, but he had to go to a funeral
@@Brickoliciousness so.. not sure how this was intended but, your response is kind of unfair, I saw this post as well when I started listening, and out of concern I looked into it.. I lost my sister 2 years ago and I had to take a month off work...I was a mess, we all cope differently, thank you for sharing a great memory. My sincerest condolences to you and your family❤
Sorry to hear that. There are some things that just have no way to prepare for. My mom passed away almost 9 years ago, and was the first funeral I'd a reason to go to. I can't remember how much time I took off work, but was at least a few days before, and a few weeks after. One of the most difficult things I've ever done was making the phone call to my employer, that I was ready to be put back on the roster for work.
The story about the shirts and road trip was such a moving tribute to Linus’ sister, and I can’t imagine the courage it takes to do a show under such circumstances.
26:11 there's this thing where swiss cheeses are getting less holes or no holes at all because of how clean the facilities are. So they deliberately expose it to impurities to produce holes. (The taste stayed the same regardless of the presence of holes)
@@batty251 Not sure what the issue is. They just answered the "why" behind the "what". Where was it stated that everyone should know this? It was pretty obvious if you saw the end of the show last week, but if you didn't that's okay...here's the explanation.
@@batty251 it's one of those scenarios where the wan show is for "hardcore" wan show watchers. If you miss something it's similar to missing the last episode of a tv show. But for a schedule change as large as this I agree.
TikTok doesn't have a functioning search function. If RUclips also neuters search, this platform is dead to me. They already snipped one ball by flooding the search page with rubbish. More than 70 percent is not search but recommended or other stuff.
Last week when you said you experiencing a loss… I was shocked when you told the story about your sister and it ended with you explaining that that was the loss you were experiencing. Props to you for telling that story without breaking and honoring your sister. Sorry for your loss.
I think more viewers for the live show comes from Europe being awake but also North Americans being able to watch maybe during/after work immediately. I'm always busy out or doing something with people on Friday nights so I never catch live, but I can put it on in my WFH setup and listen while wrapping up Friday activities.
The problem is that those videos are very rarely relevant to anything you want to watch. I keep getting stupid video essays about movies I don’t even like. The recommendations are absolutely terrible and have been for months now.
This. I've been getting a lot more of those types of videos recently, even though the algorithm should know that I have almost no interest in an obscure video on some specific topic.
@@CanIHasThisName That's not my experience. I get relevant content for me from small channel most of the time. I do get random original songs or covers but I do watch that type of content here and there so it's not that crazy.
This is kinda new in the algorithm they added this back when kick was threatening. Noticed then that I kept getting smaller (view wise) videos in the recommended and auto play.
Sorry to hear, man. "Putting together a slideshow" sounds like such an innocuous phrase, but having heard it in this context, I wonder if I'll ever hear it the same.
I have four cats and can speak to the efficient predator portion of this. As long as you have cats, you'll never need exterminators to take care of spiders again. I haven't seen a spider or a mouse in my house in like 16 years.
I default to using my subscriptions tab, and sometimes use the curated section these days. And I do a lot of private viewing of videos because I don't really want related thrown at me. The algorithm can be dumb a lot, and my random video views don't need to become a part of that.
Your content has seen me through some pretty tough times over the last decade and I will always be grateful for that. I'm so very sorry to hear about your loss and I hope you are able to find peace during this difficult time. I wish you and your family the best.

About the comparing TVs at London Drugs store - this is exactly how Nvidia SFF Ready gonna look like: you get info that it fits in specific type of case that they want to sell you, but not the info you are interested for fitting into the case you want to buy...
@@orngjce223 Are there all most-recent cards and unique SFF cases there? I think when LTT played first version around the early access of the second one, it had really dated mainstream hardware. And it's understandable - you usually are interested in most recent hardware when building the PC and simply game dev studio probably won't catch up with everything all the time. That's why for me it would be important for LTT Labs to actually somewhat standardise the card measurements and gpu compartment measurements in a way that you can actually use, especially if they have scanning tech for measurements.
In regards to Apple's naming for the M series chips, you guys are really giving it way to much credit, because it isn't as simple as M1, Pro, Max and Ultra. There are 9 M1 chips, every named chip has 2 variants, the M1 Pro has 3. There are 9 M2 chips, ever named variant has 2 but the M2 has 3. There are also 6 M3 chips across only 3 named variants, all named chips have 2 variants. And of course there are also 2 variants of the M4. Apple just didn't give these chips consumer-facing names at all, which in my opinion is even worse than what Qualcomm does.
I think the names themselves are consumer-friendly, but the practices of having almost silent differences between the “same” chip are totally anti-consumer. This comment typed to you via my M4 iPad. The 10 core one, not the 9 core.

Magix is a company which used to make very advanced yet extremely user friendly Digital Audio Workstations. They already had a modern DAW in 2004 and then released newer even more advanced versions on what could be called a 2 year basis (2004, 2007, etc.). Their DAW from 2007 even had video editing built into the system as an example of how advanced they were back when the FL Studio DAW was still the much more primitive Fruity Loops beat maker.
2:17:10 oh wow, thank you for discussing the YT recommended thing. I've noticed something change recently too, the recommended just keeps recommending me the same videos endlessly that I'm just not interested in, yet ignores videos that I always 100% watch from a creator when they release. I even had a prompt to rate the recommendation experience I was having, which was poor, so I bet they are A/B testing something.

I really wanted a capacitor water bottle to be made, but it feels half-finished. It has the polarity strip -- great! Now add the bottle capacity as its "rating" -- like 64uF for a 64 oz bottle. Add a series designator, like Nichicon's "VR". Add the temperature rating. Finish it, and make one with gold on green ... I'm there.
I got caught out buying a hisense tv from a big tech chain here in Australia. The cards would say 200hz smooth motion 4k hdmi 2.1, Smart features. Another would say 100hz high refresh rate UHD 4k console ready, netflix. So stupid and the salesman don't know anything either. Got straight up lied to and bought a crappy hisense tv. Luckily the panel died 15 months later and I got a full refund.
Re: The bad AMD benchmarks - I actually have a 13600K CPU paired with an RX6600, but that's because I'm a casual gamer and happy to play at 1080p. I picked the 13600K because it offered performance for both gamimg and non-gamimg and the RX6600 because 1080p gaming is fine unless you have a very large (over 32") monitor, which I don't. It also helped that the RX6600 offered very good bang for the buck at the time and came with 2 free AAA games too.
Run all TOS through Claude 3.5 and have it double check for any funny business. It's very easy and effective and takes almost no time. Get good at prompt crafting.
One thing I’ve learned from RUclips is download the videos you really like because there’s a chance it will be edited or changed or have its music removed or sections muted or the video could just be removed. Jim Can’t Swim’s entire channel is a good example. There are many videos still up, but more than half of what’s left were heavily edited thanks to RUclips being a horrible website now.
21:31 I getcha brother. Ages ago I looked at an advertisement for the laptops at a local store, and what did they do? The one listing said "i7", the next one said "4 core processor", the next said "2x 2.3GHz", some of them told you about how much RAM they had, the others talked about the display, one might have said "radeon graphics", the next one nothing at all. This was like 15 years ago now.
Yeah, I just use a search engine to find such videos (if they're still on youtube). Sometimes the metadata still exists and I can confirm it's not on anymore.
whats crazy is just went to cancel adboe b/c noticed it jumped to 64 dollars this past month, and suddenly I could get it back down to 32 dollars by agreeing to another year. At 32 dollars I don't mind (all apps) and feel is fair. What I don't get is why the price just isn't 32 dollars period, why do I have to threaten to cancel to get the fair price. Its worse with my ISP as I have no other option and they'ved raised prices by 40% in past two years while not advancing or including anything new to the product so why the increase, at least with Adobe they do include some new features (whether good/useful or not its something more than what was there before).
Because how many people don't threaten to cancel at which point they just doubled/increased their income. I find it wild how many people are too afraid(?) to call customer support when it can have such large monetary benefits!
3:40 That's very strange, I can do this in our CC Instance at work. Maybe it's also a EU thing, that I can do this. 47:28 They had this because Anno should have been a totally different game. The Devs wanted to make RTS with some City and Recourse Management, just like Age of Empires. But instead of fighting each other they just build their Citys and so Anno was born. 48:25 That's the official Story 49:25 The composer (Markus Pitzer) even uploaded the soundtrack here on RUclips a few years ago.
on fitness tech: Luke is pretty much right. I do like the hevy app for tracking progress lifting weights, and your phone has a step tracker which is also very useful. I got a heart rate monitor because I have specific health concerns where I want to keep an eye on it when I work out, but most people probably don't have to worry like that. to actually answer the question tho - whoop strap or similar. it's way more accurate than any of the watches and leaves your wrist free.
Yep, been an Adobe subscriber for around 4-5 years without interruption, the moment I attempt to cancel my Subscription it was either a multiple-hundred dollar cancellation fee or continue subscribing *for the remainder of the year*. The trick with this is to downgrade your subscription (nerve-wracking as it feels like you may be liable for 2 x subs if this doesn't work) then cancelling the new downgraded subscription at which point : no exit fees and your out. Absolutely outrageous dark patterns at play here, and clearly some legal tricks in play here to defend themselves when lawyers come knocking : "but look... subscribers can exit without paying fees... with this one trick". UGH. Good on those attempting to straighten this disgraceful behaviour out.
Oh linus im so sorry for your loss. I cant imagine. I am sending you and your family as much love as i can. You and LTT have been such a positive force in my life
As someone who's worked in online sales I've been on both sides of this customer support. issue. I've dealt with companies that don't care about their sellers to even the host of customer support agents that werent trained properly. It makes the already bad situation (from lack of seller) even more frustrating. To being on the other end where for one reason or another a buyer will get mad at you for stuff outside of your control or even just the abusive buyers. Each situation is horrible. I've even started doing local sales and already seeing that affect where someone is unhappy and talking negative.
so fun fact, Cheetah have a similar temperiment to house cats, and as such love cuddles and skritches. And are happy to be pets. you just need to have a big enough garden for them to run around in and never let anyone under 3 foot tall into your house. Also liter box is a problem.
I had signed up for an adobe plan for Photoshop and was planning to buy a year long subscription from black friday which usually cuts the price of it by about 30%. Little did I know my account then had 2 running subscriptions for Photoshop and if I wanted to cancel my original one I would have to pay a cancellation fee in order to do so.... Like jesus man Adobe are you serious?

The existence of a sheet with all the details (that the consumer won't have) isn't there for the consumer, it's there so that if Walmart or whatever doesn't use a good naming convention for selling these, it's wholly on them for it, not the company that made the product and the information sheet.
So in 2011 I was given my parents old XP desktop. I did a factory reset on it to clear all of the malware and get it to actually run and not take literally minutes to execute any command. The version of XP it reverted to was so old I had to find updates manually to get it to a point where it could update itself. In retrospect now, I almost definitely had that blaster worm even after the factory refresh because I didn't know about it or how to prevent it.
Speaking to the mindfulness aspect of customer support, issues can often be a dozen or more things that have gone wrong, problems which are neither necessarily linked or avoidable, and yet have built up into a problem which then just drops in the laps of the support and customer. Everyone will then experience a degree of frustration. If I encounter an issue (which is admittedly rare) then my first thought becomes that of the support person and how I might be able to help make the experience a pleasant, productive interaction, probably because I worked in tech support for eighteen years, and you see all sides over such time.
I appreciate so much that Luke acknowledged how intuitive Sony Vegas is. I hate that it was so shit at so much stuff but thank god davinci resolve took a very similar path with the layout and work flow cause it’s soooo much better and more intuitive than Premiere pro
I like the idea behind making customers sound less angry, it could definitely help customer service reps over the phone more able focus on the issue at hand. The main issue with it is that is may appear as though a customer is less frustrated than they actually are, which could lead to the rep missing certain triggers, or make the customer feel as though they are not being listened to. Not that there is a good reason for flying off the handle at someone trying to help you, but sometimes emotions get the better of people, and a well-trained customer service rep will be able to diffuse the situation in many cases and create a better rapport with the customer by the end of the call.
Should change the color to an amber color instead of increasing the brightness. Maintain your exposure! Maybe some LTT orange and LTT blue for After Dark.
100% RUclips is messing the algos recently. I even left a comment of Waveform this morning. I got served the weirdest, most off topic videos today, like a 4 hour Vietnamese day in the life cooking with 50 views and some others. My feed is tech, Lex Fridman, Joe Rogan, Tesla, GothamChess and some gaming. Refreshed the app 15-20 minutes later and they were gone, no longer next to videos they were next to.
x86 has at least a decade left on it. Servers. There are no good implementations nor even a roadmap to them for most server products. My office bought a RISC server for testing. It was a disaster even on the bench where we played around with it. Thing didn't even make it into a rack mount before we decided, "This isn't going to work.". There's edge cases, and I'm sure someone will bring all of them up. But. Even for those edge cases we decided it wasn't worth splitting the infrastructure. In VM world it just doesn't make sense.
Can i rant about Ansys license cost (commercial software)? $72k up front at a 40% discount, $19k annual maintenance. Alternatively, can buy $5k worth of “tokens” which would be consumed within 2-3 months of “full time” usage (40 hrs weekly, but license utilization is complex); and unused tokens expire after 12mo. Can “accelerate” simulations by enabling additional cpu cores to solve on multiple threads, but need to buy separate multi threading licenses for $32k per year ( add’l 8 cores for one multithreading license, 32 cores for two multi threading licenses). So. Many. Paywalls.
2:22:23 I had a very similar issue. I was looking up a very specific 1960s electrical engineering primer. It kept recommending electroboom's how a generator works. Mhedi is a great guy and makes good videos, but not what I was looking for.
Y2K has been used in the fashion world for a while now to describe 2000s fashion, over here stores like Urban Outfitters and Bershka are making big bank selling Y2K fashion 🤑
Not searchable and even disappearing Videos are a real problem on YT. I have already started to put simply the links for some videos with a for me good description in a Word Document. But also if you have the Link the Videos disappear sometimes because they get deleted (like because of Copyright or the dump new rule that channels that are longer than some time inactive just get completely deleted with all Videos), the only thing where you can then find it if is it was backed up in an Archive like the Wayback machine. That's also why I now downloading some for me more important Videos.
Ahh damn reading your comment just reminded me that they nuke inactive accounts, and by extension channels too. There was a channel with a few videos I love, and would come back occasionally to watch them but suddenly the whole playlist is [deleted video] and clicking on a video says that the account associated with this channel is terminated.
It's crazy to me that Linus is just now saying that RUclips viewership on TVs is taking over. I've been regularly watching LTT since 2015, and I'd say around 70% of my watch time has been on my TV
There's one problem with the idea "if the difference between $2 and $10 is important to you, I don't want your money". For you it's "I don't want your money" but for us it's "I don't want you to be able to participate, engage with the show, and be able to ask us a question". This is still fine, I guess. You've got evrery right to set your prices as you want. Just know that what you can spin in a positive way, can also get spun the other way.
I really love the wan show, but I think these earlier start times are amazing because it feels like this episode has been more information dense and more thought-provoking than the shows we've gotten for a few months. That isn't to say the other shows were bad but that this one was so stand out and I think this should be considered strong encouragement for continuing this series being hosted at this time.
A cat pillow shaped like a keyboard from lttstore next please! Maybe a deskmat-sized pillow with an embossed keyboard and mouse? That would actually (potentially) get my cat off my desk.
Linus you need to play Anno 1404 ! It is probably my favorite one (and mostly the only one i really played...) The expension is really impressive (Venice one )
Funny how L&L are surprised about YT on TVs. RUclips offers so much quality content. Why would I watch it on my PC (or phone, ugh) when I could watch it from the comfort of my couch on my big tv and my great sound system? RUclips has better content (and image quality) than local cable tv so I don't even have a subscription anymore. Also: my sincerest condolences, again. I love that you still do the show so well, especially if it helps you keep your mind off things, but do take the time to care for your and your family's wellbeing if and when needed. Love from Belgium. ❤

Your crown, good sir: 👑
Thank you for your ongoing service to the community. 🙏
Thanks man!
Thank you!
I hope you are doing well Noki. May both sides of your pillow be cold, legend.

@Ironically-Sarcastic DaVinci Resolve does take some learning, but it beats paying an outrageous monthly subscription.
I'm loving these shorter WAN shows. They now leave me craving for more instead of becoming weary, stopping & then trying to finish it on another day.

RUclips sometimes recommend videos with no views or maybe 10 to 20 views. It might be good for more diversification and growth of new channels

About the comparing TVs at London Drugs store - this is exactly how Nvidia SFF Ready gonna look like: you get info that it fits in specific type of case that they want to sell you, but not the info you are interested for fitting into the case you want to buy...
One of my friends actually uses PC Building Simulator to tell whether things will fit in any given case

So in 2011 I was given my parents old XP desktop.
I did a factory reset on it to clear all of the malware and get it to actually run and not take literally minutes to execute any command.

Also channels that delete just because they are afraid of a little bit of criticism.
The Adobe commercial I got before this video was great comedic timing from RUclips.
Holy cow the bottom banner moves. I didn't noticed it until Dan mentioned OLED protection
All that mess with Adobe nicely reminded me why I ""obtain"" all their products ever since the entire CS series started. Many many years.
It is probably my favorite one (and mostly the only one i really played...)
The expension is really impressive (Venice one )
Catching the WAN show at a reasonable hour (21:00) was wild
Funny how L&L are surprised about YT on TVs. RUclips offers so much quality content. Why would I watch it on my PC (or phone, ugh) when I could watch it from the comfort of my couch on my big tv and my great sound system? RUclips has better content (and image quality) than local cable tv so I don't even have a subscription anymore.
Also: my sincerest condolences, again. I love that you still do the show so well, especially if it helps you keep your mind off things, but do take the time to care for your and your family's wellbeing if and when needed. Love from Belgium. ❤
