It always amazes me how young they were and how early in their career this was! They headlined the biggest festival in the UK and they were like 21 years old and had only released their debut album a year or so prior! Ridiculous

I worked as a camera man on their 2006 tour and the guitarist cookie hated having a camera pointed at him.
As you say he was headlining the biggest shows going and was still a shy kid really.

I'm not saying anything bad about the Arctic monkeys, I loved them when they came out but they weren't breaking new ground.

Ah, thank you so much guys, it makes me so so happy that you liked them as much as I do. I look forward to you seeing more! What is most astonishing to me is that they are like 22 in this video and they picked up their instruments at 15 - 16. They are the main act Glastonbury here. Doesn't get bigger. Unbelievable. Matt Helders started playing drums just because there was no other instruments left and my goodness gracious are we glad he did. He is now 35 ish and struggeling to play these songs he has said, so fast. They have also developed their style quite a lot from these first albums and just released a single that sounds very different, but it's all brilliant. Yes, do listen to the recordings, it's a thing of beauty! If I only had money to make you react to their first album, I would do so on a heartbeat. Listen to the lyrics on their songs btw. Truly brilliant most of it. I think I asked you of it was OK with two songs somewhere, or I am really sorry if I didn't, it was just nice to give you a little bit of an insight, they are not just all anthrax or happy punk.. Hehe.
    Thanks guys ❤️

I spent half a year in Scotland when this debut was just going through the roof. It was a great time for high adrenaline guitar music (and a bad time for my liver 😄)
Arctic Monkeys have mellowed out pretty much on their latest albums.
This was great live footage. Thanks guys and Helene.
BTW the spelling on the album really is "Brianstorm" 🤷‍♂️

The music video for "When the sun goes down" was filmed at park hill flats in Sheffield, just behind the train station. Arctic monkeys came from Parsons cross area that's a few miles away from the city centre. Words like "Mardy bum" is what a mother from Yorkshire would say to her sulking child. The closest "English" word to "Mardy" would be "Sulking", and "Owt" is "Anything" and "Summat" is "Something". Summat and Owt have old English roots while Mardy is of old Norse origin

I saw them in 2006 at a tiny little venue in Portsmouth before they'd released anything officially. Everything available was on bootleg CDs. Their first single went straight in at number 1 too. That is a great song btw. I Bet you Look Good On The Dancefloor was it and it's incredible.
Unfortunately they're disappeared up their own arses of late.
Look out for their lyrics though. Especially the first album. First class storytelling from a kids perspective. They are from Sheffield in the north of England too so have strong accents and use local dialect.

I feel like people slightly mis-represent the 'internet famous' thing, like I think it was more that they played a lot of live venues, gave out CDs and people put it up on limewire etc and had a website where you could download their music. Word spread pretty quick but they also good radio play too. It wasn't like they were vlogging and uploading on youtube
