I had my first hole in ond 6 weeks ago with a Kirkland version 2 golf ball and it is now pride of place in my home office. After 30 years of playing this season I stuck with the same ball, just love them

It doesn’t matter. I just don’t like losing expensive balls.

Many years ago when I worked in USA I visited a well known sporting goods manufacturer and saw their golf ball manufacturing. At the end of the production line there were several channels where the same ball was diverted into marking and packaging sections. Some were marked with the companies own brand and the others were for “competitors “. I think you need to ask where do Costco source these balls, I’m pretty certain they do not manufacture them themselves, maybe I’m wrong and they have invested in their own manufacturing facility!

They’re made by Taylormade, not the same quality or materials but the same ball plant in Taiwan! Outdoor testing on trackman I lost almost 10 yards per club with Kirkland vs a ProV1! That’s a pretty significant fall off spin with a 20 yard wedge shot was a loss of almost 500 rpms, and had a 3 yard longer roll out with that shot! They’re cheap for a reason! The 2 balls I’ve tested that are the closet DTC to the characteristics of a ProV1 are the Vice Pro Plus (not really a DTC anymore IMO) and the Snell MTB prime X which still had a drop off in distance just not a club length more like half, but the spin on wedges is almost spot on! The Maxfli tour is close too, but they aren’t the deal they use to be and not a DTC!

I'm buying and playing the original 4-piece Kirkland ball. You can get them used in mint condition on-line - a dozen - for about $25 with shipping. Less mint balls you pay less $.

I was expecting more of a conclusion about how the two balls compare. And I have never seen big tire tracks on a putting green like this before!

I guy 2 boxes of TP5 to start the league season. Once theyre gone, I resort my Kirklands. Only difference I find is a little more greenside spin in the TP5.

The difference is the new version has a thinner 2nd layer which takes away from the soft feel it used to have. It also has a higher spin rate. Plus the QC is terrible on the new Gen golf balls. I used to find 2 or 3 golf balls off center out of every 12 dozen. Now it's 2 or 3 off center in ever pack of 2 dozen.

The big unanswered question though, is what will they cost once they appear in my local costco?

Better Durability but but they do feel harder which I actually prefer the previous balls.

What's with those tread marks all over the green?!?

    • @daveharrison1160

He said they’d beeen putting a wetting agent on them

@@daveharrison1160 Yes, but those marks aren't just in the grass, the soil is compressed. It's like the green is covered in hundreds of unrepaired pitch marks. Unless they're repaired right away, it'll take time for the green to run true again.

The difference is an increase in price

My Golf Spy's ratings for the V3 are terrible Apparently Costco changed factories and the V3 have quality issues. Too bad I had played the V2 and while not perfect they were more than playable
