For that "jump" when reversing....use the Expo and create a curve. I do that with the Rhino and iMod setups for forward throttle. It seems to smooth out that transition area.
Excellent ! This looks like a great solution for the dual motor MOA LCG project that has been on hold due to high cost of two outrunner motors and two ESCs Just re-arranged my project list to bring the Creepy Crawly LCG MOA SOA 4WS custom crawler project up to 3rd position. Two builds on the bench now that I need to finish first. Then the Creepy Crawly project will get a pair of these combos and might even be completed before Christmas. The standard combo motors will do for winter, can always upgrade the motors for summer season YAY The future is lookin slow with some more squealy noises.
I have this in my "comp" rig paired with some ali ultra light lcg gearbox and so far so good, will see how it holds next season... had to tune my EXP a bit to be happy with controls, could use a bit more punch on 2S, so I'll go 3S next year...
I have used the 9imod ESC for almost half of the year, and I'm happy with it. I like to try some unconventional combinations. My current setup is a 3300KV 6-pole motor on 4S in crossbreed TRX axles with dig transmition, and with this ESC, that pile of parts is very drivable.
ESCape32 firmware is what allows WIFI, which can be used on many different boards. They sequre version you have is the ESCape32 firmware, which i have not heard much on from others, love a long term tests with fresh visit again
Great Video! That 9imod Combo is surely great for your scxIII pro. I have tried all sizes and KVs of 9imod outrunners i could buy..... and sell! My lightest Rig has about 2800g. I was not able to find a parameter setup that gave a smooth and narrow window of torque instabilities, while switching from sine mode into normal mode, on several am32 80Amps cotrollers. Never thought about the motors could be the problem. Now I see a way to evaluate that, all my cheap sottering AM32 ESCs are great. Silly me! Thank you🎉
It's the first time I've ever noticed a combo feel down on power like that, and as the 9imod certainly appears to be a convincing clone of the Rhino V80, I started to figure it wasn't the ESC. I've had converted drone motors in the past feel down on power, but this one was... more? I want to try pairing that motor with some other ESCs and see if it feels the same.
Got a lot time on this now only it's the neebrc exactly same. If you completely remove the heat shrink the heat sink will fall off. It's only has thermal paste underneath it. 🤜
I've had to thermal tape every single Rhino V80/40 heatsink back on because they just straight fall off within the first run or two, which I'm told is sorta by design? The same with thermal paste, only the heatshrink is holding it on.
So I think what you're feeling as a lack of power at low throttle settings is just sine power being set to low for your combination of battery voltage and motor. If you hold the rear wheels still and apply just enough throttle to activate sine mode you should be able to lift the front wheels off the ground. If it cogs you just need to increase sine power until it can lift the front wheels. With AM32 and sine start enabled at low throttle settings the ESC commutates with a fixed duty cycle determined by your sine power setting and your throttle input just controls the commutation speed. There is a throttle level where it breaks over to closed loop normal sensorless brushless ESC commutation which you can clearly feel in the throttle control on these AM32 ESCs. That's probably where you are getting the brushed feeling from the 9imod motor. Cogging in sine mode then when you apply enough throttle for closed loop the stall prevention gives the motor a big kick letting the ESC begin closed loop operation. All this said, I recently installed a fusion SE on my amazon special abomination crawler and the FOC feels way better and smoother than AM32 ever has... I also haven't run any newer AM32 firmwares so maybe they fixed it. I'm on like 2 year old firmware at this point.
This was the first time where I really noticed two motors of the same size having different throttle response. I have 3625s that feel a lot snappier than the red-end 9imod 3542. That motor just doesn't make a whole lot of power, relatively speaking. Because with no other changes, the all-black 9imod 3542 felt about twice as powerful.
I was just about to order a set I’ll watch the whole video and decide. In EU THEY ARE 25£ difference in fusion se and this setup. This is fun to mess with the fusion se is still the best I believe. My. 2cent
Undo, the variable pwm, set your pwm setting lower where you still cant hear it and then switch on variable pwm again. It ups the torque on smaller motors and runs a bit cooler for bigger motors.
Have one of these on the way good to know it actually functions 😂 Now I'm stoked to get it lol! I was hearing people say the esc and motor runs cool, the motor leads I hear tend to get hot
I see some cogging in the combo at the lowest throttle. I am going to try one with a surpass motor to see if it is better. In the end the price is about the same.
I've got this and so far I'm pleased I've ran a handful of times. But I'm just now seeing a couple ppl saying there's heat issues with these getting fiery hot slow crawling for a while. But if trailing and not slow crawling a lot it cools off for some reason. I'm now keeping an eye on mine. Just wondering if there's more ppl out there that's had heat issues with these before I buy another one.
@CrawlerCanyon haven't had issues out of mine but I guy a talked to on FB and has a utube channel after 2nd run on 3s with lots of slow controlled comp style crawling has heat so bad it popped the heat sink off and yes the heat shrink was still on. I will be taking mine off. But I've had mine for a couple months and the higher kv motor one ran 3s only several times and monitored my heat even with heat shrink on has been fine. But thanks
I believe you want to keep "stall protection" on. I always leave mine on, and from reading the Rhino FB page, some seem to prefer it on for a smoother low end.
Did you take some heat measurements for this guy? The Rhino's motor seem to get quite hot when I'm trying to find that one spot where a tire lug can get the truck over an obstacle. So like, I'm at a spot for a minute or two....and the Rhino motors just spike in temps.
New to brushless. Have a am32 based esc and paired it with an sequre 3625. esc i won in a raffle and came from DV8. I’m curious on am32 stuff do I need to change any settings to run on 4s or can I just swap over from 3s. I bought a 4s direct power servo specifically for the build to pair with the new brushless set up.
@ sweet thanks🤙🏾 I had planned on getting the escape32 from sequre so I could Wi-Fi make adjustments but getting a esc free to me is a price I’m willing to pay.
I'm kinda happy to know that that whine is universal to outrunners. i dabbled in the RhinoRC one and kind of irritated with the whine at 85% throttle. I usually run a fusion pro but i need a stubby size.
@Bonitacreekrcs No I didn't. I did find a set of Injora 2.9 for $90...and liked the style. And literally 24 hours after ordering those wheels, the SCX6 went on Pre-Black Friday sale for $850...and I ordered it. So I blew my plan of piecing one together over the next 11 months. LoL. Piecing the upgrades I what I meant.
@@CrawlerCanyon I was thinking perhaps the whine would be less with a higher kv motor. Because you'd be less on the throttle. So no torque advantage then, just more speed per volt.
No racecar Baseline body today? :( And the old body lost a zip tie on the grill Dirt cheap brushed for the win! The government wont make me buy a brushless setup, no matter how many cheap alternatives they make!
The Revvit looks a whole lot like the Sequre ESCape70, but less power and it costs more, so I don't know what's going on there. The 9imod can be had on AE for around $35.
For that "jump" when reversing....use the Expo and create a curve. I do that with the Rhino and iMod setups for forward throttle. It seems to smooth out that transition area.
I have used the 9imod Esc for two months now.
Can not tell the difference from my Rhino's , wery pleased 😊
Pair it with one of your snubnose size motor's 🙂

Tried that one. Pretty ok for the bucks. Opened up the around the heatsink. And you can set lipo cutoff in the next meny like 320.....😊
I am running 560kv 4250 outrunner 20t 90t in the scx10 on 4s
I actually got that combo, and the esc only lasted me two outings before it burned up on my second three s battery
At 41 seconds "its baseline!" Lol
My rhino 80a/S20 combos also have that super loud scream at around 70-80% throttle.
Some definitely scream louder than others. That red-end from the combo is one of the loudest I've ever heard.

Evening!

Why did you choose the 1850kv over the 2250kv? I am a simpleton.
Around 1800 is pretty much the sweet spot for most builds, I've found. Outside of Fusion Pros, I seldom run 2000kv or above.
@@CrawlerCanyon I was thinking perhaps the whine would be less with a higher kv motor. Because you'd be less on the throttle. So no torque advantage then, just more speed per volt.
I have the 2250kv, it wines. I dont use the longer can outrunners because of that. Fav is 3532 1800kv or 1700kv, what ever it comes in.
I wonder how much of the bog is the motor. #fromthecomments

Hah! Commented too early!
