Aside from the history of Franconia, Bavaria is also administratively divided into 7 regions. Each with their own local government. Franconia is itself divided into three of those regions (Lower, Middle and Upper). Since Bavaria is politically completely dominated by one party there has always been some accusations that the state government only cares about the south and neglects the north, which then fueled that Franconia vs Bavaria rivalry. There were times when this was true, but it's no longer the case. For example there is an arrangement where each region has to be represented in the cabinet.
There are also some differences with the cuisine and the traditional clothing (for example the stereotypical Lederhosen are really a southern thing). You can also tell the difference from the local dialects. Franconian sounds nothing like the Bavarian they speak in the south. The Middle Franconian in Nuremberg is also pretty distinct from other Franconian dialects, though the basics are the same.

Hey guys, I have just watched your video and it is really cool! Well done. :)
I live here in Nuremberg and when this pandemic is under control you have to visit us again. In summer we have cool attractions. Like the "Bierfest" (beer festival?) in the moat on the backside of the imperial castle. The we have the "Bardentreffen" (directly: bard meeting). Three days bands playing free music from the morgning to the night in the whole old town.
In atuum we have an medieval festival in the moat and the "Altstadtfest" (directly: old town festival) where you can have some concerts, plays, poems, speechs and so on for free. Also you can have some drinks or food in tiny wooden cabins.
And of course in winter we have the "Christkindles Market". If you visit Nuremberg at this time, so make sure you come on a working day. Do the shopping early when it opens an get your mulled wine and the
ambience in the evening, so you can enjoy it. There is a little market called "Markt der Partnerstädte" (directly: Twin cities market). There you can have "Hot Toddy", which is a Cinnamon Spiced Hot Water with Scottish Wishky.

By the way, you can buy "Lebkuchen-Bruch" for a lot cheaper - that's pieces with little imperfections (which I never(!) manage to see at all). Go for the Schokolade kind.

When the Nazis dreamed of their thousand years 3rd Reich they saw this as continuation of the Holy Roman Empire (HRE) as 1st Reich which ceased shortly before reaching the thousand years. The HRE had never an official capital city but Frankfurt (place of the coronation) and Nuremberg (former home of the imperial regalia) were among the most important and biggest cities of the HRE. Frankfurt as place where the emperor was elected and home of the first German parliament was from their viewpoint no option. Thus they choose Nuremberg to show that they are the *real* successors of the HRE. It is however not so that they had any intention to shift any legal power to Nuremberg. The former free and imperial cities of the HRE like Nuremberg have afterwards always seen as proud, selfish and obstreperous.
      en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Free_imperial_city
This distrust (or fear) is so deep that no Germany after the HRE (Imperial Germany, Weimar Republic, 3rd Reich, Federal Republic of Germany) has ever given these cities any legal power. Putting Bremen and Hamburg aside which kept their independence till today as own German federal states, no former free or imperial city became a state capital city or seat of a German federal court. That's why Frankfurt is not the state capital of Hesse. And neither Cologne nor Dortmund are the state capital of North Rhine-Westphalia. Despite being the biggest cities in the respective states.

Hahahaha, yes the Franconian vs Bavarian thing. I am a Middle-Franconian Bavarian (note: there are also Upper-Franconians and Lower-Franconians in Bavaria and there are Franconians in the state of Baden-Württemberg) so I could tell you a lot about it but I guess the RUclips comment function is not meant for novels. So I'll try to make it short.
It's in fact not a special thing between Franconians and Bavarians. I guess you can find those "rivaling" groups also in the states of Baden-Württemberg or North Rhine-Westphalia and others. Or for that matter in the state of Berlin (it's one of three city states) with the eastern Berliners and the western Berliners.
In the end it always comes down to the cultural matrix which is much more diverse in Germany than the 16 states can reflect. There are differences like predominantly catholic or protestant regions or historical significance (power/influence) or traditions (clothing, food, drinks, professions) or dialect or even sense of humor.
But even then we Franconians aren't a homogeneous group at all (altough we like to pretend that we are ;)). What unites us Franconians most is our "opposition" to Old Bavaria. But even Old Bavaria isn't homogeneous at all: There are Upper Bavarians, Lower Bavarians, Swabians, Upper Palatinates...
In a nutshell: It's complicated and basically most of it goes back to the Holy Roman Empire (upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/commons/d/d8/Deutschland_im_XVI._Jahrhundert_%28Putzger%29.jpg ), the Reformation and the many wars (coalitions and divisions) in Europe over the past centuries.

Much of what you saw was reconstructed post WWII very quickly as the allies bombed Nuremburg heavily but paid a very, too high a cost. You mention nothing of the WWII history , the museums, the recent past , you are true semi educated millennials.

Wer einen Franken "Bayer" nennt, der besser um sein Leben rennt!
No, seriously, most of us don´t like the fact that franconia is part of bavaria, that´s true, but it´s not like we hate bavarians. Just don´t call anybody between Solnhofen in the south and the region between Wunsiedel in the east, Aschaffenburg in the west and Neustadt an der Saale in the north a bavarian, and nobody will have a problem with you...
