If you're new to my channel and videos, hi! I'm Evan Edinger, and I make weekly "comedy" videos every Sunday evening. As an American living in London I love noticing the funny differences between the cultures and one of my most popular video series is my British VS American one. I'm also known for making terrible puns so sorry in advance. Hope to see you around, and I'll see you next Sunday! :)

If you want to know HOW I make my videos including gear, lighting, all the tiddly bits that connect it all together, (with cheaper alternatives and kit I used to use), I've listed each item, what it's great at, and why I use it on the gear section of my website here:

The main reason Greggs don't have many shops in London is the overheads, an average shop for them up North will cost them £40k per year but a shop in London might cost them upwards of £250k per year. I live in Newcastle Upon Tyne and we have them on every street corner because people don't have much disposable income, that's why Pret a Manger and other chains tend to fail up North.

Being from Liverpool I know some of the longstanding local jokes (and the Liverpool sense of humour) . There's a suburb right out on the edge of the city called Speke. Originally it was a small village with the Elizabethan Speke Hall (now owned by The National Trust). It has a vast council estate, industrial estates and the city's airport. This chap was in the city centre and wanted to go to Speke but wasn't sure which bus to get. A bus arrived at the stop so he asked the driver: "Eh mate, is this bus going to Speke." The driver said: "I doubt it." The man was puzzled: "What do you mean?" The driver replied: "Well it's not said a word all day."

@@BM-ip2fy Hey bud! No I'm from India. Planning to pursue my further studies in Liverpool later this year, hence the question.
But if you're having trouble with the international student thing, just reach out to the admissions committee of your chosen universities via mail, and request them to get on a zoom call or something with you. Most universities are more than happy to have a representative do that. You can subsequently ask any questions you might have for them, and they will be happy to answer them for you.
Just word of advice from experience, the process itself is not difficult, just rather long, and it's easy to panic and feel like exhausted. But most of it is straightforward and simple, and you should have no trouble with the entire thing as long as you have the correct documents ready (they will let you know what those required documents are).

We got such bad press for years (and still do) so it's great to see a foreigner talk about Liverpool like that and also one that has experienced London for so long. Sorry about the mud but you were basically in a muddy river estuary. The sediment is very fine which is also why the water is an uninviting muddy brown too. Formby is a bit less muddy and is only a couple more train stops. Thanks again though for the positivity!

I'm from Liverpool but live down south now. The best beach along the Mersey was at New Brighton on the Wirral side. So in the 30s I think the council decideto build a promenade to attract tourists. This changed the river current so the beach washed away and increased the sand bar in the middle of the river so they had to put a light ship in plce to warn the ships or else they'd run aground. The beahes from Formby to Southport are really nice. Southport is a great litle resort.. Best beaches around the rish Sea. Probably North Wales. Bala being famous but there are others just as nice with beautiful flat white sand.

I lived up in Southport in the 80s and 90s. We moved there when my dad got a new job in Liverpool. Loved the integrated transport then. Not been back that much as my family moved away in 2002. I don't think we went to Crosby beach, but I do know that during the early 90s Formby beach had lovely clear sea. In Southport, more specifically Ainsdale, the beach and dunes were OK, but even at high tide, the sea was a long way out so we never bothered to find it.

Should definitely visit Chester when you can. Also as someone from the Wirral who spent 4 months in Luton one of the biggest north south divides i experienced was the total lack of shops like 'Bargin Booze'. And trying to explain it to people in the south without perpetuating the "northerners have a drinking problem" thing was very difficult

I live opposite Liverpool on the Wirral Peninsula. I believe we have some of the best beaches all around us. There is Hoylake, West Kirby, Moreton, New Brighton, Heswall, Thurstaston and numerous others. I love living on Merseyside. Liverpool is a short 10min train ride away, Chester is half an hour away and you could be in North Wales within 30mins. Wirral itself is beautiful with a lot of world's firsts like trams, public parks and so much more.

You're right about UNESCO. The project that led them to their decision was Everton Football Club renovating an abandoned dock into a new stadium. A move that will completely change that end of the city and be worth billions to the local economy. The club have also preserved the culturally significant landmarks and are working them into the stadium design, aswell as designing the new stadium to be inkeeping with the architectural history of the area. Seemed like a really unfair decision by UNESCO

The stadium wasn’t the reason, that’s in an industrial part of north Liverpool
It’s the skyscrapers built closer to the liver building etc that changed the landscape

9:53 god. as someone from Norwich I feel this on a personal level. If I finish work any later than say 10pm the only way I can get home is to either give up my life savings and pay for a taxi, or call a friend and ask for a lift

I had to work in Liverpool for months on end, but staying in hotels. I feared it, but ended up enjoying it - there was a lot to enjoy. I found the same with many cities I ended up working in.

The city centre has hundreds of great restaurants offering food until late (Bold Street for starters). If you visit a bar/pub during the day serving food then expect that place after 7pm to turn into a drink only establishment

This video summaries most northern city's and big towns history mixed in with more modern areas. In Manchester you get areas like the northern quarter which when I was growing up where considered dangerous and now are rejuvenated and amazing and is a stone's throw away from market Street.
