    How does a Libertarian debate in support of Govt encouraging the ending of life? Even more odd, to see a Libertarian argue for central state governance. How is Federalism not the more supported position than Centralized Governance from a Libertarian's perspective? Is it, not more Libertarian for the States to decide their own fate on this issue than it is for a mandate from the Federal Govt that all peoples, regardless of belief or principle, must oblige to the Federal govt's singular opinion, no matter which side of the debate they are in? Is it not the Libertarian principle, a bedrock principle even, that no matter the policy, the decision-making is better the closer it is to the individual?
    Then on the subject of age limits...how does a Libertarian argue for the people to have less capability to express who they wish to represent them with his supported authoritarian regulation on some arbitrary age being a cap and regardless of capability, if you're over that cap you can not be selected to represent your community, even if the community would have voted for you regardless of your age?
    Then when this Libertarian moved to Foreign Policy, he became a liberal with a small 'l' and showed that while on one side of his mouth, he bashed the other candidates for their deficit spending and adding to the debt, but then out of the other side of his mouth he talked about defending another society in a war they started and then through some unknown authority he would command, end that war so he could spend US money on rebuilding Gaza, a region of a foreign country....when did Libertarians change and decide that foreign countries are a valid expenditure of US tax money? When did they change and decide that the US should dictate winners and losers? When did they change and decide that how foreign countries defeat their enemies is a problem for the US to get involved with?
    I see a whole lot of Authoritarianism in this guy's presentation and very little Libertarian. He seems in this interview at least, to be a liberal who doesn't wish to join the Democratic Party. I can understand that position, but I fail to see how that makes him a Libertarian, forgoing all the principles of Libertarianism. The debate for abortion is a matter of when life begins, for whenever that does happen, it has rights that most Libertarian concepts and principles say must be protected from the abuses of the State. I think after the fall of the Roe-v Wade cannon, the States became the arbiters of authority in this determination and what we are seeing unfolding across the US is States concluding when that moment legally occurs. You can debate different conclusions than what is being ruled, but you have to support the fact it is in the hands of the different States rather than the Federal Govt, at least until we can all come to an agreement on when life begins at a super-majority level. The other aspect of Libertarianism is that whenever it is deemed to be life, it has rights, it isn't a 2nd class citizen to be at the whims of its mother any more than an abused child is at the whims of its parent.
    I haven't listened to a lot of his views, so he could just be horrible at understanding the position, and so subject to amend his positions stated here. But my first impression is that he isn't a Libertarian, instead he is a leftist who doesn't wish to be associated with the Democratic Party. He surely doesn't seem to grasp the ideological position of Libertarianism and the fact he is the Libertarian Party's candidate, suggests there are a lot of people in the party who also fail at understanding the bedrock principles of Libertarianism and what it means to be a classic Liberal with a BIG L, instead they are much like the other parts of the Left, liberals with a small 'l' being more akin to neocons than to Libertarians. There is nothing Liberal about using authoritarian measures to solve a problem. There is nothing Liberal about promoting tribalism and division.

      @@DeliveringSolutions would be but for two exceptions.
      1) Freedom until it does harm to another. The baby is determined to be a life means it must be protected from harm by someone else's choices.
      2) the rule/regulation on when life begins must be at the closest point to the individual as governance allows. Ending Roe pushed it back to the States, where it should be decided, at least when in the binary perspective between State and Federal.

    • @KathrynBrown-p1d
      @KathrynBrown-p1d Месяц назад +1

      Libertarians are divided on the pro-choice vs. pro-life issue, which is understandable because two different lives are at stake. Folks can always choose to NOT have an abortion. Those who are pro-life can work to educate and help women make choices that align with pro-life ethics rather than using the state to do that. Isn’t it better to choose not to have an abortion than to allow the government to force you to give birth?

      We need to reform the electoral system and institute ranked choice voting for congress. Then all the other "third parties" could get a legitimate foothold, establish a track record, and put up viable candidates for the election. Fortunately in this election cycle the democrats and republicans are rolling out geriatric patients and people will naturally start considering an option that has a better chance of still being alive in four years. That's how long the term for the presidency is.

    • @junegenis
      @junegenis 3 месяца назад

      The answer is not a system like England's which also uses a first-past-the-post, winner takes all electoral system. The only reall difference is that their head of state is elected by the winning party, not voters. The real solution is Ranked Choice Voting whih allows you to rank your favorite candiate first but back that up with lower rankings for other candidates incase you don't think your first choice can win.

      I support Chase but the most important thing this year is NOT to vote for the duopoly. Most states will have mulitple candidates available on your ballot. Find an alternative you actually like and vote for that person. It's currently the only way we have to tell the duopoly that we are not happy with what either of them is offering us. We need to award Electoral College votes by Ranked Choice Voting to give alternative party candidates a fighting chance.

    I just watched the first half of the debate for the first time. Up until then I had only seen coverage and some short scenes on the new. I would suggest people rewatch it, including journalists. On watching it I'm not sure that it suggests there is a medical problem or cover up. A person can have a hoarse voice and not be at the top of their game. Trump was doing what he does, lying and sending personal attacks and Biden probably engaged with some of that he should not have. I think many of the people supporting Biden were hoping so bad that he did better and put Trump in his place and so the debate appeared worse than it was. I can imagine many younger people have worse debates. I suppose my main point is that when I actually WATCHED the debate and not the coverage it gave a whole lot more context and at least to me did not appear as troubling as was made out.
