CARDIGANS are very diverse - check out their song "My favorite game" totally different and another great hit by them - she's a rocker.
Despite the soft lyrics in this, she is indeed a rocker girl.
They do Iron Man and Sabbath Bloody Sabbath, sorta doing it their own way.
So yeah 🤘
The uncensored video!
Sony used it in the opening credits of either Gran Turismo or Gran Turismo 2. It's been too long, I can't remember which it was.
Es una mujer del rock progresivo alternativo ,la realidad es difícil encasillar el estilo ,ella y el sonido de la banda es único
Their song "Erase and Rewind" would be a fantastic follow up. Fun bass line too!
Yes! Such a good song!
Excellent song!
Yep, another classic.
Yes, perhaps my favorite of theirs. The whole Gran Turismo album is pretty good.
Their song 'Losing My Favorite Game' is a killer song that's also on the Gran Turismo soundtrack.
They were Swedish but very fluent in English. Nina sang without any accent and the guys learned their licks by listening to US and UK pop/rock.
Yeah no accent at all
Anything by The Cardigans is a great listen. Movie wise it was in Baz Luhrmanns Romeo and Juliet starring Leonardo DiCaprio and Claire Danes
Yes. Great brutal death metal band. With pornogrind influences.
The Cardigans a just another great band from scandinavia. Especially Sweden got so great musicians!
Little Dragon & Ängie 🤩
The Cardigans were great, an overlooked album, overshadowed by the success of this song.
They were absolutely HUGE in Europe, but this was really their only hit in the US, which is funny because it really doesn't sound anything like the rest of their stuff. It doesn't hurt that Nina Persson is one of the most beautiful women ever. And you're right: she kind of "babydolled" her voice for this one. "Erase/Rewind" and "My Favorite Game" will give you a real taste of this band.
The girl I sat next to at primary school was always singing this in about 1996
I had "My Favourite Game" by The Cardigans on repeat back in the day!
"carnival" "sick & tired" "my favorite game" "rise & shine" "for what it's worth" "erase/rewind" "communication" are a few of the cardigans' best...peter svensson & magnus sveningsson were heavy metal musicians check out their black sabbath covers too...
erase/rewind yesss!!!
@@andrea.mojarro Love Erase and Rewind as well. This was one of my favorites after hearing it in Bas Lurman's Romeo and Juliette. I wish I would have realized who I am now.
@@kyraspikes7542 yeah that whole Gran Turismo album is 🔥🔥
@@andrea.mojarro it's an incredibly seductive album
Carnival is so good!!!!
The Cardigans collaborated with TOM JONES - Burning Down The House. Might be worth listening to.
cardigans and tom jones doing a cover of talking heads - Burning down the house is a good one
I also really enjoyed their cover of "Ironman"
Omg, amazing version. I have debated in my mind if I like their version better than the original.
@@robbsclassics well i like both but you can hear/understand the lyrics better on the cover
You need to hear The Sundays - Summertime, Wild Horses, Story Ends!!! She has the sweetest sounding voice in similar style to Cardigans.
Blood on my hands 👍
Harriet wheeler😍
“Skin and Bones”. Weirdly atonal and melodic at the same time.
The 90s was a great time in music .. we had sound you can tell came from that time .. Hip Hop .. Pop .. Rock .. they all had that 90s sound .. the 60s and 90s my favorite decades in music .. 70s and 80s were really cool too .. but I think the 60s had the best music and I grew up in the late 90s so that my time in music ❤️🔥
Vocally the lead singer is like a cross between Leigh Nash of Sixpence None the Richer ("Kiss Me") and Donna Lewis ("I Love You Always Forever"). All good songs!
Pub choir did a great rendition of "I Love You Always Forever", available on youtube.
Great description!
@@quincee3376 thank you!
This is just one facet of the Cardigans - they've got some big rockers too. Nina Persson lends her vocal talent to the Manic Street Preachers track "Your Love Alone Is Not Enough" - well worth a listen.
Yeah this track takes me RIGHT back to the 90s lol. This and “All I Wanna Do Is Have Some Fun” by Sheryl Crow.
The Cardigans - "Erase / Rewind" & "My Favorite Game" are great songs from this band. If you want to check out more I recommend these two songs.
Unique band for sure…they have the ability to get real dark real quick. Gran Turisimo is a great album..”Junk of the Hearts” is a nice tune on there. Incredible singer by the way ..she uses her voice like an instrument
Ah, I had the biggest crush on this angular headed, vaguely Swedish looking pixie back in the day. I just called her Bork Bork.
This was in "Shakespeare's Romeo + Juliet" movie from 1996 with Leonardo Di Caprio and Claire Danes. It fit the movie quite well.
Still in my playlist to this day because of that movie.
This was always on VH-1 when I was in college in the 90s. A friend and I would always stop whatever we were doing when it came on and watch the video because we found the lead singer so fetching. The song is really catchy, too.
The only album I know by The Cardigans is Gran Turismo, from which I would recommend ”Erase/Rewind”. I don’t know why, but the song reminded me of ”Winchester Cathedral” by The New Vaudeville Band back in the 60s, which my sister (and me sometimes) used to attempt to imitate by singing into a plastic beaker. (The Cardigans sound SO much better!)
Lex: Next time Brad’s heart gets too rugged play him ”Tonight You Belong to Me” by Patience and Prudence (1956).
I instantly loved this song when it came out. With the dreamy verses and then the disco vibe on the chorus. Just a fun song.
Fantastic song, I never get tired of this one.
Oh, I forgot about this one. I had so much fun in the mid-90s!
Made in Sweden!
I don’t know a bad song from Cardigans in 90s …
Classic song. Great band.
Might just be the biggest earworm of the entire decade of the 90s.
Such a simple song that is so sophisticated in execution. There's some real craft in the melody and the lyric sung. A proper pop Gem. 👍
Sick and tired is my favourite Cardigans song, such a cool retro, lounge vibe.
The Cardigans early stuff was more of a lounge rock with her sweet sounding vocals often singing about darker subjects. They did a couple Black Sabbath covers, including Iron Man, in that style. Gran Turismo is more of a standard pop rock album, but very good. They also did a great cover of Burning Down The House with Tom Jones sharing the vocal duties.
This is a great band but often underestimated. They started with cute pop covers of Black Sabbath songs. An honest admiration of the band, no joke.
And developed into a band that made the fantastic double album 'Long gone before daylight' with a totally different sound.
Great voice, great songwriting.
Erase and Rewind was a massive hit in it's time.
When people think of nineties music, they mostly just mention Grunge, but this style of music was a big part of nineties music too.
Recommend The Sundays. Lots of great stuff. "Summertime" or "Here's Where The Story Ends" are very nice, but they also do a killer version of "Wild Horses" by the Rolling Stones. I like their version better than Mick's.
Oh Yea! The Sundays were great. Also the Primitives (going back a few years prior) - "Crash", "Sick of It"
The Sundays are still a frequent playlist entry for me. I would recommend their first hit Here's Where the Story Ends.
I just heard their Wild Horses on the radio today! Harriet Wheeler has SUCH a beautiful voice!!
...I really love the Sundays Torrey...I went through a whole female alt rock period, The Sundays , the Sugercubes, the Innosence Mission, 10,000 Maniacs, L7 , Garbage, Hole, Mary's Danish...and the Cardigans! I still love it all! ....the 90s had a ton of great music Torrey. All pieces of the puzzle of my youth.....can't forget Alanis Morrisette and Sarah McLachlan, No Doubt, Pj Harvey, Lisa Loeb, Torey Amos...surley I am forgetting some great female fronted acts..but is was a great time in music, and a great time in my life Torrey...fortunately, I still have a rack full of all the CDs I bought since 1985...I ll be pulling out "The Cardigans", First Band on the Moon"..it has been a while
I’ve been trying to get them to react to the sundays for a long time. Brad would love her voice.
You guys should react to more of The Cardigans…
"My Favourite Game", "Erase/Rewind", "For What It's Worth", "Carnival", "I Need Some Fine Wine And You, You Need to Be Nicer", "Sick & Tired", "You're The Storm", "Your New Cuckoo", "Hanging Around", "Step On Me"
🎸🤘
"I Need Some Fine Wine And You, You Need to Be Nicer" is such a great overlooked song
Yeah absolutely! My favourite song by Cardigans.
"Don't Blame Your Daughter"
one of my favorite bands, and not only then, the song was just a perfect addition to one of the most original and good adaptations of Romeo and Juliet (with DiCaprio and Claire Danes).
Song was featured in the Romeo & Juliet soundtrack (which is a great OST imo), the band could have maybe gotten bigger in the US if not for a pretty disastrous (and legendary) interview in LA's KROQ Kevin & Bean show which at the time was somewhat of a king maker for alternative rock bands.
erase and rewind is the one.
I didn't recognize the title or band. But dam those first two notes and I was brought back to being a kid watching MTV in the mornings
Great 90s jam
The Swedish bands absolutely perfect pop song from 1997. It was used in the movie, 'Romeo+ Juliet,' and I remember hearing it in an episode of 'Orphan Black.'
The most surprising thing is a Swedish band from the 90s not having a 6'8" guy with a voice like Michael Clarke Duncan.
Sweden had a fair few decades of some perfect pop hits. Mainly helped along by ABBA to be fair who barely had an average song.
@@Tom_McMurtry ...I think ABBA had a hit or two...
Damn Lex is SO GOOD at describing the sound/genre of a song and what it resembles! She instantly went to Venus I'm Your Fire which I NEVER would've thought of but the moment she said it, I was like YES THAT'S IT! Lex's ear for pop music is amazing! 👏 ❤
The Cardigans is one of the most underrated bands ever IMO. They have many great songs.
I was partying like a rock star in the 90's. I have been told it was fun.
You could have heard it anywhere (it was pretty popular for a while). It was also featured in Baz Luhrmann's Romeo + Juliet (Leonardo DiCaprio and Claire Danes). I feel that Lex was on the right track with the song's content... like it's more about being in love with the idea of love because obviously the person she's singing about is not returning her feelings but she doesn't really care because she's a fool for love (hence "Lovefool").
You are forgetting the best place you could have heard it. Jim singing it to annoy Karen in The Office. Because it is impossible to get it out of your head once you hear it.
She does a great duet with Tom Jones "Burning Down the House" the old Talking Heads song.
They do all these Black Sabbath covers, but they do them in their style. Worthy of checking out.
Was about to come here to say that. Their lounge cover of Iron Man is golden.
@@wcgcapone And their acapella version of Mr Crowley.
This song was HUGE when it came out. I remember I was at a club near my university & the opening chords of the song had everyone erupt!!!!! 🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥….cool song!!! You gotta hear “Erase/Rewind” & their Black Sabbath cover of “Iron Man”….WILD STUFF 😱
Swedish band. A few hits. Good voice, good sound. There is a live acoustic version of this, played more slowly, that is very very beautiful. Always had it on mix cds. At one point I remember a siren in the background adds to the music.
omg i was just listening to this today and here yall go, love that
How bout this Brad? NO EXPECTATIONS
And then, you're never surprised or disappointed. Go into EVERYTHING expecting NOTHING. A truly open mind will always net you a good learning experience.
One of many you guys listen to I still listen to in the car haha 😂🤷🏻♂️ love all the different genres you explore
Every time I hear this song now I think of Hot Fuzz where they sing it at the end of Romeo and Juliet for whatever reason.
I suspect you two are going to love their song "My Favorite Game", so do that one soon.
Sweden do know how to produce good tunes.
the 90's was kind of obsessed with the 70's, and by extension, the 70's revival of the 50's/early 60's also came back in fashion and in music. Half the young guys in movies and TV at one point looked like James Dean.
We went through everything in the 90’s. Funk, punk, swing, latin, pop, alternative, ska, reggae, grunge, metal, rock, hip hop, gangsta rap, RnB, motown, etc. And most of it was really good!
The 90s was certainly not obsessed w the 70s, no. There was everything in the 90s. They had a big band music revival. Hippie bands had hits. A fat guy w harmonica solos had hits. etc
Ahh this takes me back to 10th grade when I saw The Cardigans play this song while opening for Beck at the Ryman in Nashville. (I think the Flaming Lips was playing for Beck that night.)
Love Fool was on the 1996 Soundtrack for Romeo and Juliet with Leonardo di Caprio and Clare Danes. It was epic.
Haven’t heard this song in a very long time. I am thinking this came out when I was in college but can’t remember for sure.
Lex- "...maybe I heard it in a movie." - Oh you mean like Romeo and Juliet...? Yeah. This song has been used a lot during the 90s.
I get the same vibe as Lex when she said this song gives her vintage vibes. the way I always described this song was it gives me I dream of Jeannie/Bewitched era vibes
Giving me 90's roller rink flashbacks.
This song was on the soundtrack to the remake of Romeo and Juliet with Leo DiCaprio And Claire Danes
It was used in the 1996 film Romeo and Juliet.
Omg. Memories of Romeo and Juliet! Loved that movie!
Lex loving this song got me loved ya both... her smile got me bent lol how can you not love that smile
I only know two Cardigans' songs, this one and My Favourite Game. I loooove My Favourite Game!
Aside from My Favourite Game and Erase/Rewind, they did a great cover of Talking Heads' Burning Down The House with Tom Jones.
Their other songs "Been It" and "Erase/Rewind" are faves as well. More edgy. Also nice is their poppy "Rise & Shine". Oh pls also check out their collab with Tom Jones, they did a cool cover of "Burning Down The House" (Talking Heads).
The Cardigans are a really great band, but unfortunately most of their catalogue is quite overlooked because of the enormous success of "Lovefool". If you decide to delve deeper in to their oeuvre, I want to warmly recommend their second album Life, which is chock-full of bangers: there is "Carnival", "Gordon's Gardenparty", "Tomorrow", "Fine" and "Hey! Get Out of My Way", for example. In my humble opinion, Life is one of the best albums of all time and certainly one of the finest indie pop albums ever made (ofc also the other Cardigans albums are really good). Thanks for the video and keep up the good work!
Sure Lex loves '90s, '00s music. There are lots of good stuff out there.
This was one of the Cardigans hits . Big in the '90s. Yall have heard this on movies, too, I'm sure.
The Cardigans were a good '90s, '00s group, Kind of throwback. Indie pop, new wave, alt rock. Some jangle pop. Some post-punk. Very versatile. Like No Doubt (Gwen Stefani), The Sundays (check them out), Elastica (check them out !), Berlin, Blondie, etc.
Check out their videos for "My Favourite Game", "Erase/Rewind", "For What It's Worth", "Carnival", "I Need Some Fine Wine And You, You Need to Be Nicer", "Sick & Tired", "Rise and Shine", "You're The Storm", "Your New Cuckoo", "Hanging Around", "Step On Me", etc. And "Burning Down the House" with Tom Jones (Talking Heads cover).
Love this song. Thanks for reviewing it. It has to bounce around in my head while hunting in S.C.
Everytime I listen this song I remember that scene on the office!! it cracks me up!! 😂
You have to go down this rabbit hole the Cardigans Been It. the video version.. oh and Don't Blame Your Daughter, the video version and For What its Worth
when this became a big hit the band complained that they were being typed against who they were musically (apparently a speed-metal outfit).
This song has always given a Nursery Ryhme harmony. “Nah nah nah nahnah, you can’t get me”. Lol
Love love this song!!
It was included in the soundtrack to the 1996 film Romeo + Juliet. Listen to their Your New Cuckoo. Also they did a interesting cover of Black Sabbath's Iron Man.
This song was in Cruel intentions when Sebastian and Annette were in the pool
Another Great song by them "Carnival".
A great example of a one hit wonder that was so much more than their one hit. They have tons of stunning songs and a diversity in sounds that always make it interesting. Add in one of the most stunning singers of the 90s and it's a magic combination.
Never heard them referred to as a “one hit wonder”. Are you from the US? They were pretty big over this side of the pond. Always on the radio and playing festivals.
@@Dreyno yes sadly a lot of great artists from your side of the pond get treated this way over in the usa.
@@THEDEEPDIVE Happens the other way as well. Huge bands in the States don’t make a mark here at all. John Mayer, Matchbox Twenty etc.
Even some bands from here that make it big in the States don’t sell as well at home. Peter Frampton, Bush etc.
@@Dreyno yeah I imagine The Beach Boys didn't do as well in the cloudy gloomy areas of europe. lol
@@THEDEEPDIVE Actually, no. Not at all. The Beach Boys early albums had spotty releases and no touring so didn’t really chart. Their mid-sixties and on releases were at least as big as they were stateside.
Surfing was already a thing here by the 60s so even if the sunshine wasn’t as common, the music translated.
The 90s killer bands... Groovy, retro but new era. Very unique music. And catchy!
Another one is the band The Beloved or Moloko, Stereolab.
90s is last great music decade....
Moloko is fantastic.
The Sundays , World party 👍
Always loved this song, even though I never knew the name or the band.
I'm a classic rock and roller,,,,this is good stuff. 👍😎
I always loved the irony in this song, with the lyrics being so dark while the music is so dreamy.
I think that Gran Turismo it's a very underrated pearl :) sooo many hits! And their unique style! I love this band!!
This song was in every Teen movies lol
You should react to Carnival. Also a song that sounds from the 70s. Great Swedish band!
If you've seen Romeo & Juliet with Leonardo DiCaprio that's probably where you heard this song before
I remember when this song came out, was one of my favorites for months, wasn't a mix tape I made that didn't include it.
You know what you never see? A band with a male lead singer, with all female musicians playing behind him.
Lol. Legit fast forwarded until sixty or seventy seconds just to check if we watching the video, expecting that to take five minutes or something. Surprised me, definitely subscribed.
Check out "I Need Some Fine Wine...." and "Been it".
Also, they did a cover on 70s rockers Thin Lizzys "Boys r back in town".
Nina P also did a duet with Manic Street Preachers, "Your love is not enuff".❤🤘
If you want to hear a great cover listen to The Cardigans and Tom Jones doing “Burning Down The House”.
MAN, I haven't listened to them in a while. I use to love em. I have to get back into them.
They also have a great song with the best song name:
I Need Some Fine Wine and You, You Need to Be Nicer
It's a Swedish band. I remember when it came out. Love it. I think you should check out thier new songs
I wouldn't be surprised if y'all have heard this one at some point, this was a huge hit in the late 90's and was used in a lot of movies and TV shows of that era.
