- Full review: www.cameralabs... - part 1 of a video review of the Nikon D7000 DSLR. In part one, I'll show you around the design and controls of the camera, demonstrating the Quiet release mode and taking a look through the menus and playback system.
In parts 2, 3 and 4 I'll demonstrate the continuous shooting and AF capabilities, the sensor, processing and live view, and finally the new 1080p movie mode. You can watch parts 2, 3 and 4 at www.cameralabs...
This was one of the best review videos on youtube ive ever seen! made without annoying bullshit and with a very cunning voice!
Thankyou! I always try and use my cunning voice!
Gordon Laing no , thank you, you always make it so simple and defined well )) appreciated.
i always check gordon laing for camera reviews since years in youtube
I have watched so many camera review videos... some of them biased, some of them half baked, some of them are just judging the camera on face values.
By far you give one of the best reviews.
I don't know how to thank you. It's always a pleasure watching reviews from you!
Please visit my site for parts 2, 3 and 4, along with my sample images, complete analysis and quality results. You can find them all at www.cameralabs.com/nikon_d7000/
Thank you Gordon! I saw for the very first time this video on July 2011 and it actually made me decisive for the Nikon D7000 which I eventually bought. Fast forward 8 years and I own the Nikon D850. An addiction which proved to be quite educational lead me to this the magnificent camera, but the way was paved by D7000 and I will always remember dearly that model!
@1650million I don't recall the invite, but I'm always happy to say hi to people visiting Queenstown if I'm not on a deadline.
As far as I am concerned, you guys give the best most informative reviews. Clear and most helpful. It's a pleasure to watch these video's. Thank you.
When watching your videos, even this one, it is clearly obvious that you are not biased to any side but brings out the facts as precise as possible. Keep up the good work!
Rewatching after 9 years, this video is one of the reasons why I bought D7000 , and thank God its still good in 2020 ,nostalgia, its sad that we both became older , but i can remember many memories because of pictures i got through out all these years by this wonderful camera .you should be careful because camera can change your life .
Thanks! And if you'd like to see the other parts, they're here: www.cameralabs.com/nikon_d7000/
I've watched hundred of reviews of D7000 but none of those is better than this, you're probably the best, and this review really helps me to the best decision. Thank for making this wonderful and informative review.
Welcome back Gordon!
Couldn't believe the new review style at the beginning, but later on I found really fantastic!
Amazing review! This video goes above and beyond any other video i have seen of this type, i almost wanna say flawless. Great to see that videos from cameralabs are back and better than ever.
These reviews are incredible!! Simply the best on RUclips, and anywhere for that matter. Thank you for these reviews and please keep them coming!
This is simply the BEST D7000 review that's out there!!
I miss you on YT. Your channel was one of the best on photography. Best wishes!
Thankyou! Putting this one together was a big effort, but I hope you found it useful - don't forget to click the link below the video to go to my site and see the other three parts - plus all my other reviews of course!
Nicely done, Professional, informative, you really clarify all aspects of the camera without an silly comments seen in other tutorials. Thank you so much.
Thanks! I made this one 8 years ago, but it was my most in-depth at that point.
CameraLabs give the best camera reviews in the internet !!! Very professional !!!
I"ve seen many review videos on cameras, and yours is perhaps the best.
Depends who you ask. RAW will give you slightly better quality if you have the time to process them on your computer afterwards. But shooting in RAW will also mean having less space for images and smaller continuous bursts.
I thought I mentioned at the end of the review, but it is at cameralabs . com. There's a direct link to the correct page under the video window. Hope you enjoy the rest of it!
After a loooong time, the best camera video reviewer is back!
And this time i have the camera that he is talking about!
Gordon rules!
Love the new format Gordon! You really do go beyond reviewing cameras into downright entertaining, you're an absolute gem : - )
What a great birthday present you gave me with this review! Thanks, Gordon! Keep up the splendid work!
If you can rely on something in this world, than its: "Hello I'm Gordon Laing, editor of cameralabs . com!" I love this!
Thanks for all your reviews and your tips! You gave me a much bigger knowledge on understanding and using DSLRs. Thanks! =)
Thanks for your support! Some people just don't understand what I do or how I do it. I don't get paid by the companies to do these reviews and I don't keep the cameras either. Everything I test is on loan for 1-4 weeks, then returned afterwards. Cameralabs is my full-time job which is why I'd like people to visit my site. This is why I publish reviews in sections, some here and some at cameralabs. It's still all free of charge for the visitor, but if I don't get visitors, I go out of business.
Many thanks Gordon! Your reviews were essential for me while I was on the market for my first DSLR. Now I have D7000 + 18-200. Love it!
wow! camera reviews gone up a notch higher in terms of presentation and information contained! the photographic community missed you so much sir! welcome back! looking forward for those other parts and even more videos to come! advanced happy Christmas and cheers from the philippines! (i'm enjoying my 50d now because of your review)
I've discussed the video side of things in the fourth part of this video! You can find it at the link below the video!
Exactly the same! I was getting tired with the D50's lack of features and low resolution and D7000 is a great upgrade.
This is the best review of this camera I have seen to date. I have seen a few of these reviews and you really showed all the little extras that many reviews didn't seem to make me realize. I have the D5100 and I didn't realize that my camera has 30fps in movie mode but the D7000 doesn't. Also, what's interesting is that snapsort.com has the D5100 beating the 60D, let alone the D7000 rivaling it.
This is probably the best review i have seen of any camera model. Great work.
I am a d90 shooter. not looking to upgrade, but the video review itself is interesting.
One of the better/best review of D7000 Camera.Thank you.
Click the link below the video - that'll take you to my full review with all four parts and much more!
@chris25119600 Chris, just remember an FX lens will work on cropped or full-frame bodies, whereas DX is only for cropped frame. This is completely independent to AF capabilities.
@cameralabs Ignore the stupid comments Gordon ,some people never heard of the southern hemisphere.
Let me congratulate you for the best D7000 video review to date. Always loved your reviews ,packed with information ,pros and cons and real life situation opinions.
Watched all 4 parts.
Don't let cameralabs die ,it's one of the best camera reviewing sites on the net!
Salutations from Romania.
@Sarod Thankyou very much for your support!
Thank fuck for this video - soooo much better than the other videos on the D7000....finally I'm starting to actually understand what everything does and what button to press.
What a great teacher - Many thanks for taking the time and trouble to make this video !
@10mism I did try and upload a 1080p version, but it kept failing - it was a huge file. Sorry!
Thankyou very much! I filmed this around Queenstown New Zealand...
great to see you again gordon :)) best reviewer ever so informative and to the point !
I've owned cameras by most of the manufacturers, but to be honest these days I use the camera I'm testing in order to maximise my time with it. So right now I'm using a lot of Micro four Thirds equipment.
Very useful review! You answered all the questions I have with D7000. Part 2 and 3 videos were very good too
Thanks! Glad you found it useful - if you haven't already, click the link below the video to see the other three parts at my site cameralabs!
Yes you can and it's a great lens for any Nikon body!
The best reviews on the Internet. Thanks mate :)
Best camera reviews on youtube,,by far
@cameralabs Sorry people are rude sometimes... for what it's worth, your reviews have steered me in the right direction every time since I was a novice getting in and now I've gotten really comfortable because of the various gear you've recommended. People need to realize that you're doing this as a service, for free, and stop taking it for granted.
Keep up the good work -- most of us appreciate it!!
Haha touche... My comment was a little tongue in cheek as I do think that your videos are some of the most informative to be found. The only other I would add is that having shot with both Canon and Nikon and Sony for that matter. The ergonomics/ control layout of the Nikons is IMHO mush better than the others... Cheers
best review i've seen so far. super useful in my purchasing decisions!
@iJarrp Nope, the D90 was a mid-range model. The D300s is the semi pro model.
Hello Gordon, I bought my first DSLR (a Nikon D7000) only based on this review, it was really helpful, as if I was holding the actual camera on my hands! Thanks!!
Another First Class review from cameralabs...youre great Gordon.......greetings from Italy
@SapienHunter You're very welcome! I provide my reviews free of charge, but it is my full time job, so if you'd like to support me, please visit cameralabs . com and either buy one of my ebooks, shop for anything through the support me page, or buy me a coffee via the paypal link! Or simply spread the word and encourage your friends to visit cameralabs . com, as that's where all my reviews are! Cheers!
Wow, New Zealand is beautiful. I have family there but have never been. In all your videos you show the same area and it reminds me of an almost Caribbean scene.
Just bought one for product photography, excited to get back into this.
Excellent presentation! Even better than usual!
Holy smokes, what an incredible detailed review.. Thank you!
We miss you on YT - but it's so clear why you left... Your site is next to xxx my fay site when I want to learn about cameras.
@cameralabs Okay, will do! Thanks for all the work Gordon!
Great review! I just recently purchased a lens through your website! Hopefully you can keep adding to the videos because they are simply outstanding.
@iloveairfrance Yes you can zoom-in during Live View. You don't need to log into vimeo to see the other parts, just click the link below the video above... you'll see a demo there...
@71shoelover Thanks for supporting me, it really does help! As for the D300s, it's really getting on now in digital terms, so is lacking a lot of the latest features, like a 1080p movie mode. But it is tougher overall, and it can shoot longer continuous bursts. Beyond that, it'd be a case of carefully reading my D300s review at cameralabs !
Beautiful scenery in the background, i want to visit there.
Very Very good indeed. I work as a Pro Commercial Photographer, and have done for the past 10 years. I use a D700 body and 2 3100 bodies for backup, the 700 has been so good a real low light wonder! and the 3100's have done some of my best magazine work although I hate the fact they have no upper LCD, it slows things down, I generally get a year out of them before they are shot. I was going to buy a D800 but now thinking of keeping D700 on for another year and getting 2 7000 bodies.
Dear Sir,
Great Video. I enjoyed lot. I am planning to buy this one and need your help to select the lense. I need to use this camera mainly for trekking/mountianering/trails etc. also i need to use for some indore activities. so, tell me what types of lenses i should buy. 18-105 its already on my list. any other? thanks in advance. cheers
Long and comprehensive! Miles better than any other camera review...ever! How long did it take you to film it?
The best D7000 vs 60D review! Its sick having to watch Nikon's fanboy doing review on D7000 saying its a Magnesium alloy body, which is not true. Only the top and rear of the body is.
Also the ISO performance of these 2 wonderful cameras are very close, based on the test Dpreview did. Again, Nikon's fanboy is claiming the D7000 ISO beats 60D to quite a extend. Love your review.
Anyway, I'm using D7000 :)
Thanx for the great review
I really apreciate ur work
but what about the weather sealing in D7000?
@4EVERMYSERENITY you're very welcome! Don't forget if you find my videos useful, please support me by shopping for anything at the 'support us' page at cameralabs . com!
@porkygimp Both are great options - depends how wide you need it to be. For portraits, get the 50. For general purpose get the 35.
Great review Gordon, thanks for all your efforts and hard work. You're awesome at reviewing!
it's great to have real "field-test"!
good job Gordon!
Thanks Gordon! I hope Pentax start sending you some of their cameras for reviews!
Nice to see you using the gorgeous backdrop where you are in your reviews. Keep up the good work, and ignore the idiots who criticise you for pointing to your website.
this is really great !!! most comprehensive review I've seen yet. Good Job Going over and watch the other videos thanks for the great info.
@idkcameron The 7D is much more expensive and is in a different semi-pro category. The D7000 and 60D are in the same upper mid-range categories.
i dont even know how it take me 3 videos to subscribe, keep that good videos going man, you awsome at this!
glad that you're back!
cameralabs FTW! :D
@batboobie Thankyou, you're welcome! Please do visit cameralabs . com for my complete reviews!
Hi Gordon. Great review as always. You helped me to choose this camera. What lens would you recommend to accompany to 18-105 kit lens? I was thinking about the 35 or 50mm primes.
Hi, Thank you for posting all the review. Its a big help for us. Anyway, i just want to ask during recording a video using D7000 is it possible to pause then record and pause then record again or its just one time record then if you stop it will just stop like the D90? Thank you.
I filmed it in 1080p and edited it in 1080p, but unfortunately a 20 minute 1080p file is just too big to be uploaded from somewhere like New Zealand where I'm based. It'd take about two days and would consume most of a monthly allowance! That's why I mostly upload my videos in 720p. But some of my latest ones have been in 1080.
I was digging the camera until the15 min mark when you went into the menus. Reminded me why I am sticking to my FM3a. Maybe the D3100 is more to the point for serious shooters with less fluff?
@clevegirl1 Parts 2, 3 and 4 are on my site cameralabs . com - there's a direct link to the correct page under the video above. I think I mentioned at the end of part 1 that you'd need to visit cameralabs com to see them!
@D3athW1ng They're all in chronological order. What would you suggest?
In january/february next year I will most certainly buy this camera!
I got the D3100 last week and I like taking pictures with it a lot!
Have tried out the canon 550d and didnt like it very much, guess the Nikon menu is a lot easier to work with!!!!
@stormbytes Thankyou, you're very welcome! I wish I could charge for them! Unfortunately reviews generally have to be given away free which means for my business to work, people need to buy things through the links on my site cameralabs . com or make donations. It's a tough business plan which is why I can't publish as many detailed videos as I used to. But please do click on the link below the video here to see the other three parts- this one is just the start!
im waiting for this review from long time...... really i miss your reviews Mr. Gordan
@verheul32 Its a standard ISO12233 chart with high resolution converging lines.
Great video... I'm looking to move from my D5000, would the D7000 be a good move for me? What is their time between releasing a new version of their midrange?
Why is the flash mode placed on the dial? What shooting mode does the camera use while that is selected?
Love your videos and reviews. You are very fair.
@lustforlife358 It's been a while since I tested the D7000, but I think the bracketing button is on the side of the camera head... PS - make sure you visit cameralabs to see all the parts for this review!
@habaca Parts 2, 3 and 4 have been ready since this video was posted! You'll find them at cameralabs . com - just click the link below the video to find them...
great review! so well done man! i got my brothers and extended family to always consults cameralabs before purchasing and we have never been mislead.
I still really like the D90, and if you can get a much better price on it, then I'd be tempted to go for it instead, especially if it means you can also buy a 50mm f1.8 or 35mm f1.8 in addition to a zoom lens...
he's alive :D! welcome back to RUclips!
@cameralabs Yes, i saw those, i mostly wanted to see the two where you took a shot of the town, one over exposed and one correctly exposed. Nice work none the less :)
@cameralabs Awesome review! It's quite clear when you see top notch work. Keep it up!
@BrandonKingVloggin Don't have any regrets - the 60D is a great camera! Make sure you watch the other parts of this video review at cameralabs . com and you may end up being a bit happier about your choice!
Been a while. Welcome back :D
