    As russian, I must say that all of your information about this food is pretty correct. Usually there is a misconception (especially) about beverages, but you got that right. Kvass is a yeast beverage similar to vegemite but sweet, and Baikal is a coke with herbs.
    And I can approve that this kind of products is what (my family) used to eat.
    I hope you liked it, because I enjoyed your video - great work!

    • @Aevilbeast
      @Aevilbeast 6 лет назад

      That actually makes a lot of sense, since Root Beer traditionally does have similar mixture of flavors, even a wintergreen sorta like menthol-y element to it which is similar to Eucalyptus.
      Just thinking about it has got me cravin' a nice ice cold root beer!

    Great video! I enjoyed watching you try kvass since I found it to be really awful the 1st time I tried it. If you liked the sunflower halva, I suggest you try some Middle Eastern Halva which is made with sesame paste and honey. I can't have it in the house because I love it so much I will eat the whole chunk and I'm diabetic. My aunt, who was Russian, always had her jam or preserves in a spoon on the saucer and would eat a little bit of jam and sip the tea, then repeat the process until both were gone. Another very Russian way to drink tea is to take a sugar cube and sip the tea through the sugar cube. Not surprisingly, many adult Russians have steel teeth in the front. Also, many Russians drink their tea in a glass, often with lemon if it's available.

    The basic soup you make with kvas is often eaten with stale bread crumbs ( light staleness helps it not get soggy) and sometimes served in a hollowed out bread loaf. Eastern Europe is the bread people.
    PS: Isn't the mushroom flavor portobello?

      I have to amend my comment. I've tried the Buratino and Tarkhun flavors since then, but our local store doesn't carry Baikal. The Buratino has nice, almost bubble-gum like flavor (similar to the original Ramune soda, I think?). Tarkhun is my favorite by far... I love anise, liquorice, and tarragon (tarkhun), and the unearthly green color would make it an interesting mixer for alcoholic beverages. Ersatz absinthe (minus the louching, of course), anyone?

    The Halva that you ate isn't exactly what you think. Because of it's made out of Sesame seeds and nuts a little additional sugar. And how do i know what's going on inside the treat is that Russians are very jealous of the middle East and Arabian snacks . (I come from the middle East ISRAEL is in the middle eastern country also Jordan ).

    • @secretdiaryofafoodie
      @secretdiaryofafoodie 7 лет назад +2

      Yocheved Mendelson what do you mean "it isn't what you think"? They had the sunflower seed version this time, not the sesame seed version, which they've tried before.
      Completely unnecessary to say "Russians are jealous of" blah blah your country's food.
