6:06 --- For cover art to display, you have to use Photoshop to manually resize the image (and use Tag & Rename to implant the image into your ID3 metadata). You want WIDTH: 8.889, HEIGHT: 8.889, RESOLUTION: 72 -- use Bicubic Resample to avoid adding noise / speckling to the JPEG and save at 12 (High Quality). I was having problems with cover art with my Hiby R3 Pro, and what I did was I found a cover art that WAS working correctly, painted over it with Grey Paint using the Brush Tool and then I just copy any new cover art and paste it into my Template. Works great for tricky cover art that is causing problems.
Hm...My SanDisk Clip Sport (while not a DAP in the same sense as the one being reviewed) was a bit less fussy...as long as the (embedded) album art was 400 pixels square or less, it would display...as long as the screen is active when the track changes--otherwise it'll just show a placeholder. I use the MP3Tag app to extract the album art and re-size it with another image editor before re-importing it back into the file.
Just bought one and it's amazing for the money- currently loading all my fav songs onboard, the designated line output is really useful to run into my yamaha mixing desk and sounds ausome loud 😀
I noticed that the audio cuts off on the last couple seconds of the tracks. Couldn't find any "gapless playback" related setting, so could only assume its a firmware bug. Was not able to update the firmware using their firmware update tool either. Still deciding whether to return it.
And THAT is a major flaw if you ask me. It's almost 2023 and you'd think something as simple as playing back a complete song would be a given. As for gapless playback, my old Archos from the early 2000's had gapless playback. It's not that hard to sort out surely?
@@pootle5096 Yea it does seem strange that in this day and age they can't make a proper music player. BTW I still decided to keep it because most tracks have a few seconds of silence at the end anyway so I don't notice that issue on all songs. It's just one or two songs where I've had that issue. But in hindsight probably not worth the price. Although it feel nice and robust and and the clicky buttons are nice, but that's just my nostalgia talking.
@@ACG7001 I did contact them about it and they said they'll pass on the info to their development team. I didn't get a response from them after that. However it wasn't a huge issue for me because it only happened on some songs where the artist was singing right to the very last second (I mostly listen to eminem and some classical music). So I didn't bother following up with them but maybe they've fixed it in a more recent firmware update.
@@pootle5096 Funny you should mention that...I had an Archos player (one of the touchscreen 'vision' models with a built-in camera...probably a rebadged OEM) that exhibited that very fault. That was a large part of the reason I grew disenchanted with that particular unit and replaced it with a SanDisk not too long after..
@@patpat5557 if you google "renkforce hfp-c2", you'll see it's the same player from 2016, which got rebranded and it's UI tweaked. I got it long time ago, because of it's physical controls, to use blindly, hoping to not have to get it out of a pocket (unlike a smartphone). Unfortunately it's infuriating. First button press of any kind is ignored, because that's how it wakes up from a dark screen. So to skip to next track, or to adjust volume, push the required button 2 times, instead of 1. That alone wouldn't be so bad, but here comes the inexcusable part. If you reach into your pocket, attempting to grab the player, in order to operate it, you'll inevitably spin the wheel. It will take you straight to the track list, turning the skip track buttons into scroll buttons. Major UI design flaw. Battery still holds up after many years. Audio quality is way better than my budget smartphone. And it can be so loud, you'll be surprised. Volume can be set 0-100. Crossing 30-40 starts getting uncomfortable. 50 is pain. However something is wrong with my car's radio. It's way too silent. Max volume is barely mid. So I use this mp3 player as an AUX AMP. And it works like a charm on that anemic radio.
I finally found a solution! Indeed this method works, make sure you open the albums folder on your PC, you need to delete all the flac files, then re-download them, adjust the artwork to 500x500 size and drop them back into the albums folder.
Does it have a setting to Disable Scroll Wheel when the Screen is Off??? I can see that wheel being problematic in a pocket if it "wakes" the player every time it gets moved.
@@getoutsidenow420 it does - that's what Isalena said. The scroll wheel is locked by default when the screen is off. It sounds like Isalena is just saying "there is no setting to enable/disable that, the scroll wheel just always is locked when the screen is off."
So people say its loud? Can it drive high impedance low sensitive headphones like Beyerdynamic DT 770 250Ohm? So this might be an proper use case? otherwise the ui looks outdated and the wheel is a pointless joke?
I’m confused, I looked at the manual for this and the lock is the power button but when I “lock” it all the buttons are still functioning. Which I think defeats the purpose of a lock mode. When I have it in my pocket I don’t want the volume to change or skip songs. Am I doing it wrong??

If there's no facility for Optical Out then what the hell is the use of this over an ancient iPod Classic? You can run lossless through that too. Then run iTunes to an external DAC through USB.
well with such price , you will not need an external dac , since the one in mechen is already superb and for sure it is better than the ipod internal DAC by far

Can you adjust the volume when the screen is locked, or do you have to 'wake' the unit to adjust volume?

Does anyone know how to fix the scroll wheel? I accidentally dropped it & now it's stopped functioning properly.
Does it have Japanese and korean text?
Do lossless signal (HiFi) works on Bluetooth too? Or only thru wired Headphones?
BT has to compress and degrade the signal and also adds Lag.
It will at 16bit not 24.. APTX drive. Forget BT, taste good cabled sound
Yes it does if you have an LDAC setting on your wireless headphones. LDAC allows bit-for-bit playing which is slower but not noticeably.
