    Many thanks for the information on this Sir. I ended up doing the body work on my 1x30, and all the blade work on my Work Sharp Ken Onion blade grinder setup, with a fresh, standard belt kit. Fun fact, for the work sharp fans....there is a "stiff belt" kit available for purchase from there website. The stiff belts are handy for more substantial blade changes (reshaping, significant grind changes, etc). No affiliation with work sharp, just a big fan of the setup. Looking forward to your next offering. Thanks much Sir.

      As always my friend… Thank you very much for a kind and thoughtful comment. When DBK did a video about the work sharp with the ken onion attachment, I seriously consider getting one. But then I realized… I really don’t need it. It’s just another piece of equipment taking up room on my already cluttered workbench. It is a great machine from what I can see. And if I did knife sharpening as a means of supplementing my income or something like that, I would certainly invest in one because it pretty much bracket (no offense) idiot proofs the whole sharpening dilemma. Maybe that’s a little harsh, but it really does make quality knife sharpening more accessible to more people.

      @@knifetimestory In many ways, the WS KO is a better machine than the 1x30. Belts are 1x18, but variable speed and a lot of work can get done. My daughter is a hair stylist, and asks me to touch up her shears, occasionally. I use the finest grit belt, to polish the backside, reducing the burr. Machine has reprofiled several blades, sharpened a couple hundred blades, and put on 90 degree spines, and similar, with no sign of slowing down. It's worth the initial investment. I also agree with your recommendation on using a couple garbage blades to get comfy with your machine and convexing an edge. My first time I reprofiled a knife, felt like I was gonna faint....lol. After a little practice, you get much more confident with the machine. HTH. Keep up the great content Sir. Standing by....

      @@CapnBart1 do you speak so highly of the machine… That I just may have to look more seriously and possibly getting one. I had great success with the stuff that I have on hand, but it might be fun to give it a try. You’ve definitely give me your food for thought.

      Ha ha ha. I saw that after the video and I thought to myself that perhaps I should neaten up that work area. Those two toolboxes off to the left are full of knives and so is the one on the floor. It’s total chaos. And when I get a idea for a project, I just basically shove stuff out of the way and get busy. Maybe that would be a good winter project, just clean that area up. Thank you so much for watching. I’m glad you like it.

    Привет дружище, тебе нужна прижимная пластина на гриндере, пластина под ленту , чтобы угол атаки ленты дал ровный , а не закругленный линзой. Что скажешь по этому поводу?

    • @knifetimestory
      @knifetimestory  6 месяцев назад +1

      I deliberately took the pressure plate… Or as we call them a platen off. I want it to be slightly convexed. that is considered a slack belt grinder.

    i like your vids. this one is a real nail-biter (whispered a prayer for you brother). would be great if you offered a custom mod service ! :)

      @knifetimestory  Год назад +1

      I liked your comment. Thank you very much for the prayer. I used to do modifications for people. I did a few hundred holes in CRK knives. Then… a certain group of people who are referred to as millennials, sucked the fun right out of it. So rather than have to deal with whining entitled “Chads“ I decided not to do mods for people anymore. It’s supposed to be fun. Not unnecessarily frustrating.

      @@knifetimestory i understand, that is very sad to hear because you do such thorough and quite impressive work, hard to find that these days. i would do maybe some of these kinds of clever mods with my belt sander (although a bit too scary to attempt re-profile blade work with just a belt sander). your sheath mods look amazing too ! (p.s. ~ by the way, what do you think of these other budget general all-around knives : the Schrade SCHF36M knife kit, or the Cold Steel SRK Fixed Knife 6" SK5 kit ?? )

    Convex is a must! Great job! I was also wondering about adding a small sharpening choil with a Dremel (or a bastard file 😂) , just to avoid that inevitable recurve. What do you think?

    • @knifetimestory
      @knifetimestory  Год назад +1

      Well… I actually have not experienced the “inevitable recurve”. Maybe you are applying too much pressure at the beginning of the sharpening cycle and that enough at the curve and tip. And over aperiod of time that’s what happens.
      If that is not the problem, then I guess a sharpening toil would not be a bad idea. Absolutely, a round bastard (tee hee hee) file would work great!

      Ha ha. Welp, I only do them for my own use. I try to give enough info to guide people along. My biggest objective is to get guys out of the mindset that they have to look for the perfect knife. It does not exist. But, it sure can be fun and gratifying to fine tune one into something that you love to use and brings you joy to look at!!!

      @@knifetimestory I just recently got a ESSEE 5 and Gerber Strongarm. I've been trying to get out of that premium steel mindset. I love M390 and Elmax. I believe one of my favorites non premium would be morakniv. Great price and like a razor blade out of the box.
