The resin it hurts us because it’s designed as a combat tactical knife so it’s not designed for feather stick but more for piercing and mild fieldwork but as a owner of one of these, it’s definitely not the most comfortable survival knife but it won’t break, that’s for sure
Yep, several guys have pointed out that what I'm doing is actually repurposing this knife into something that fits my use other than that it was specifically designed for. Glad I made the changes though. I like it a lot and use it a ton. Thanks for watching and commenting.
For the serial numbers on the blade, the modded knife ends in 21 because it’s the 2021 model of the strongarm. The new knife is the 2022 model. I own a newer strong arm with 08723, this is because I purchased it this year. 👍 coool video
Yes… You are absolutely right. I’m a little disappointed in the fact, but nonetheless… I still love the knife! I’m glad you have one! Enjoy it for many years!
As a close combat open-hand operator I can say this is my favorite combat knife never deploy without it and I never had any problems this guy is talking about he in my opinion he destroyed this knife's look and feel and let me start on the blade it actually hurts to look at it
@@knifetimestory Dude! REALLY? Chill bro! I realize that you're making this knife to suit YOU and that's cool. (Fun video). But the dude (while maybe not the most tactfully said), was just blowing out his opinion. No need to attack his English or writing skills. Social media comments aren't necessarily known for proper grammar or even spelling. (Well...may in fact reflect our poor education system). I have to admit, I have to grit my teeth, when someone says "I SEEN it"! (Don't get me started when people film "vertical" with their phones. LOL!) @@QuantumMechanic_88 Well genus I use to be enlisted till I found there is more money in Privat Military Contracting you specialize in what you love and only work that position CQC is all I do going after HVT's in urban quarters this may go over your head as a mechanic just taught I would explain...
I also have a video on a free, no-tool sheath fix for the Strongarm...about 5 years ago. I actually prefer to leave everything intact. I did file down the small horn on the top of the blade so I could more easily put my thumb over the blade for carving. I left the bottom one in tact for slide prevention. Thanks for posting. I also love this knife and other than my EDC, it is my most used knife. If I had to choose one knife, this would be it.
It's just that a lot of people don't actually use the knife. They just collect. I've seen a lot of reviews on knives, where the knife looked like it had never seen daylight. You do great work.
Thank you for your kind words and for watching. Yep… All of my knives see the light of day and get dirty! Plus… 95% of them pay a visit to the grinder for some sort of modification!
I finally realized that about the serial numbers. Or that they are not serial numbers. And I know it’s a glass breaker. But I don’t need it to be so. So that’s why it’s gone now. Thank you for your input.
You are correct. However, the whole point of my channel is buying knives that I like, that may not fit my needs to a "T" and then modifying them to do so. And, it lets others know that it is okay to do that sort of thing should maybe their wife or child buy them a knife and it is not exactly what they want, they can doctor it up and make it fit their needs. You know, like with cars. When you are old enough to drive, you will understand.
Yes I did. I don’t need it. Therefore it is not necessary on My knife. If you need it, then by all means, keep it. My knife isn’t used to stab, so a large guard is also needed necessary. Do you “get” the fact I modify stuff to serve MY purposes better, and not necessarily your purposes? I just show what can be done and how to do it. It’s kinda my “thing”.
Understandable civilian mods . In theatre we usually have gloves on and .most of those hotspots get a lil worn down . Counter advice before downgrading your knife.. upgrade your hands . Just a thought
Yep… I guess my woodworking/metalworking/farmer hands that never see the inside of gloves can’t compare to military hands that are constantly inside of gloves. I would imagine overtime, the hotspots to get worn down. But I had fun modifying it!
I just picked up the Strongarm and really appreciate your video sir. Very informative, well shot, and I dig your sense of humor:-) Great job and thanks much for taking the time to educate us new Strongarm owners.
This is my favourite knife. I’ve owned a strongarm for years - the black with partial serration and just bought the plain edge coyote one last year. It’s one of the first fixed blades I ever bought - and I became a knife collector buying and trying new knives to see if I’d like anything else better… but I’ve never found anything that I like better than it. IMO this is *the* edc knife. Your mods are interesting and maybe one day when I’m feeling bold enough, I might round off that top guard - or maybe I’ll get another one and just modify it into a specific bushcraft knife… but this knife is fantastic and it’s neat to see the different things you can do with it. Your handle kind of reminds me of a gladius or a bollock dagger
I’m glad to hear you are a big fan of this knife! I am too. I do find myself reaching for it more than just about any other larger knife nowadays. It’s actually not a bad slicer, and the handle is quite comfortable. I’ve never liked a knife with partial serrations though. Glad to hear you got a plain edge one as well. Thank you so much for watching and taking the time to leave such a thoughtful comment!
Honestly I feel like this is going to be the knife I pull out to show my grand kids in 40 years time. There's nothing I'd change about this knife and personal I think the grip on this thing is the best I've ever held bar none. Not sure what he was saying, but I've always had rough hands and don't feel any kind of discomfort. The grip was actually the selling point for me and now when I look for a fix blade I find myself disappointed when it's not similar lol. I've been out hunting in the pouring rain, mud, blood, guts and never felt like it was going to slip in my hand. And the back is perfect to belt it with something when trying to seperate tough joints and such.
You didn't know Gerber made bigger blades? There's the well known Mark II double Edged Combat Blade, that's 7 inches. The BMF that's 8 inches and the Coffin Handled Bowie that I have heard being called the Australian Bowie at times, it's 9 and a half inches. Those were the days when Gerber was Gerber. Now for the most part they make 5 inch Bushcrafter knives.
When I was editing the video I realized I came across kind of weird. I used to have a cough and handle Bowie. I had an LMF. But I never had a BMF. Then they just kind of fell out of favor with me and I lost touch with him and didn’t realize they were still making some large blades. The element was very cool specially with the saw blade, but it was not a chopper. The way that handle is tapered. And the Bowie was about an inch thick at the spine. 😂
@@dannyjackson2062 Mine cost $89. I got it at my small town local hardware store. And I figure, if people don’t support small places like this, then they go away. And I would hate that. That’s not to say I don’t order stuff that they don’t have online, but if they have it I’ll buy it from them.
One minute in and I've subbed. Not just because I found your intro funny, but because you like my mate, Pete. I bought a Strongarm a little while ago based on a few different reviews and because of my need to satisfy my knife nerd addiction. Pete was an influence, but then I watched Joe X destroy one and decided that yeah, I need a decent size knife that is a good price so I wouldn't be afraid to beat it to death. I've kind of been biased against knives that appear to have a 'tactical' profile but the Strongarm is just a great all-round knife. I better jump down the rabbit hole and watch more of your videos. Cheers from a bloke in Australia. P.S. I have a baby channel if you're interested in getting bored with mundane content...lol
Thank you so much for the kind words. Glad you find my stuff amusing. Also glad you like the Strongarm. It really is a nice knife out of the box but made soooo much better with the mods. If you do jump down the rabbit hole, thank you. I hope you find something useful.
That point on the back is also useful in rescue scenarios where you need to break a car window. Personally I'd leave it pointy. Also, I've never had a problem with it sticking me while on my belt.
You are absolutely right. Perhaps with my sheath modification it made the point move up closer to my elbow and my wrist. I can still use it to break things and do stuff it’s just not pointy anymore.
I got an aftermarket sheath for the stringArm from an Etsy store called RK Custom Kydex. That’ll preserve your original sheath and make it easier to add a Tek-Lok.
Did not care for the tennis racket tape idea as well as I thought, so I mixed up some Durham Rock Hard putty and made the handle into a coke bottle. I believe I now have my new favorite knife again. At least this week. Your channel's message to me is, "Make it yours. Make it work."
It’s kinda cool how you customize your Strongarm. We all have different likes and dislikes. The part of the video I liked the best was the scenery behind you.
Man what you needed was another knife, I own 2 of them and they have never let me down. This knife does exactly what it was made to do. While I respect your opinion, we will always have a different opinion when it comes to this knife.
No, actually I need this knife. It feels great in my hand and now does the jobs I need it to do...and comfortably. Was a great knife prior to my mods, but just like any car, you end up adding or subtracting stuff to "make it your own" which is exactly what I do with knives. It's kinda "my thing". Thank you for watching and commenting.
I liked the Strongarm so much that I bought 8 of them 6 years ago. The two things I don't care for are the pointy end on the butt because it's always scraping me, and the fact that it wasn't sharp. I rounded the corners on that pointy part. And just sorta sharpened it normally. I'm going to watch to see how you ground yours. I carry mine crosswise on my belt with the butt in front as I'm using it constantly while on my property and it's handier for me. I don't have all the attachment garbage on it. I just run the belt thru the slots and in the rear have a trapping quick-link that attaches to my belt loop so when I take a poop or something, the darn thing doesn't slide off the belt.
Eight!!!! Holy Crapola. That is nuts. I thought I was bad always buying two or three. But eight! You win!!!!! Guess you have back up for life. Glad you agree with the pointy thing on the butt. For us regular guys, it is not necessary and actually quite painful when you slam a knuckle into it. Thanks for watching and commenting. I really appreciate it.
@@knifetimestory If it's good to have, it's good to have in bunches. Right? Ha! I gave two as presents. Where the pointy thing is painful for me, is when the bottom of my forearm drags across it since I wear it cross-draw. I'm with you, I'm not sure it's necessary out on the prairie which is where I wear it most of the time. Maybe cracking open rocks or something. I do like the sharpening tutorial as I never could get them really sharp.
Better for you. Everyone's an individual with different hands and preferences and use cases. Great knife though. Props for shining light on these mods and this knife.
Thank you for the kind words. Yes, you are right, better for me. I like modding knives too make them better for me. And I want to show others that they can do the same thing if they so desire. Thank you for watching and commenting!! I appreciate it!
So I’ve been told. Then I guess these mods are for the rest of the guys who want to use this knife but aren’t in the military or wear gloves all the time. It should boost sales. You’re welcome.
Well I guess this is more of a video for how to take a military knife and modify all of its attributes away in order to make it a bushcraft knife. I like how the sheath I set up for molle webbing or scout carry, etc. With the tech lock you're down to 1 way to carry..
You are exactly right! I took a knife that did not suit me, and made a bunch of changes, and now it is one of my most carried and treasured knives! thank you very much for watching and for being a part of the conversation!
Absolutely, it gets the creative ideas flowing when you think about altering certain knives to fit a specific purpose that it may not have been designed for.
Actually a very valid question. ESEE does not care if you do, Becker hems and haws at mods, but not sure about Gerber. When you think about it, none of my mods really compromised the structural integrity of the knife and would lead it to premature failure. So I would hope that if in fact, I did snap the knife in half or something along those lines, they would honor the warranty.
I ordered the limited edition Strongarm from Blade HQ. It's OD green and doesn't have the black coating. It's exclusive to Blade HQ for a limited time. Same price as the regular Strongarm too.
Thanks for the heads up. I looked it up. Nice price. I would like to see however maybe for a limited edition an upgrade in steel. Then I'd definitely pull the trigger.
You do realize that Gerber came out with the Strongman knife as a more pocket friendly multi-purpose knife for military use that is similar in design to the LMF II but nearly 50 dollars less expensive while still being made in the USA with a sheath that is Berry Compliant and works with MOLLE systems or can just be added to a belt.
Well, it looks nothing like the LMF 1. But, that is a good thing in a way. The handle of the original LMF was oddly shaped. Definitely not a chopper. The handle of the 2 is more conducive to that and that is a whopper of a skull crusher/ pry tool on the butt. However...I'd never need that and with the blade shape being almost exactly like the Strongarm, I'll stick with the Strongarm. The biggest deal breaker for me on the 2 is the serrations on the blade. I've never been a fan of them.
When stabbing though, do you find without that back knob it slides out of your hand more pulling out? I have wild pigs and i feel retreiving the knife once stabbed in this mod would make it slip? I understand hitting a tree and all but using it as a knife does this mod affect that?
There is still lots of grip and curvature at the butt to give you plenty of handle to hold onto when extracting it from something. It still makes a great chopper, but without any "pokey" parts to irritate your hands.
Its cool to customize knives and for what ur needs are it was needed because this is a combat knife. My opinion i like what you did it also makes it unique to you my grandfather was a prisoner of war in Germany and they was always customizing there knives from what i hear
Wow. Cool to hear that even actually issued knives were being customized. I’d love to see some of the finished products if there were any out there to see!!
@@knifetimestory if you check pawn shops your bound to run into some Ive also seen bayonets with the metal sheaths that has bin customized as well and there always my favorite ones some of the customizers was realy good
I used one labouring years ago we had to buy our own tools so safe to say it did double duty as a pribar wire cutter put the blade flat onto nails and hit it with random things because my hammer was to far away now it’s getting purposed as my moped seat knife for just in case I need it so it’s out of retirement and onto easier work was the first knife I brought over 50 about 7 years ago
Great video! Your selling me on this knife, now. Gerber owes you money 😁 Also, alot of shit talkers on here. They no have the brain cells to understand you're modding an (obvious) combat knife to serve your purpose as an indestructible bushcraft/survival knife, that now doesn't have a shit factory edge grind on it.
It's funny how some people just can't comprehend why someone would modify a knife. Glad there are guys out there like you who "get" it and the whole premise of the channel. Thanks for watching and commenting and your support. I appreciate it.
Yes… Quite aware of that. But I have fun getting things like that and making them fit my needs. And then showing others that it is possible to do and not be intimidated to the point where they’re afraid to experiment.
Thanks for the vid. I just ordered a strongarm in coyote brown. I could find a single thing wrong with them. I even splurged and got 2 day delivery lol.
They wear gloves when testing! It is designed for military not for home users. If you are in combat, you need a good guard. So think before you comment! Say, i did this for personal use at home. Nothing wrong with altering a knife to fit your uses. The spike it not there for comfort, it is used to make someone uncomfortable! Or glass breaking.
"Think before you comment!" I was not aware you were out there offering your editing services prior to making this video. Had I known, I would have certainly submitted it to you for analysis and correction prior to posting it. I'll be sure to do that in the future.
A proper finger guard prevents injuries. Each year millions hospital visits are the result of the injuries from kitchen knifes, and kitchen knifes are lacking finger guard as we all know.
Wow. Very insightful. What's left of my finger and thumb guard, combined with the rubber texture, and the fact I'm not stabbing stuff is pretty good insurance against going to the hospital.
I think the bottom, or "butt" of the knife is supposed to be used as a "window breaker." Will it work just as well if it's ground to a rounded edge? I .. don't know. Probably. I think the Strongarm was meant to be more of a survival knife, rather than an everyday workhorse knife. But I could be wrong.
You are NOT wrong. Yes, it is a skull crusher/window breaker. If I need to break a window, which in my 60 years has not happened yet, I'd be more than happy to stab the window. I can always replace the knife. Seeing as how infrequently I use that feature, I opted to remove it a little so I did not have a pointy thing pointing upwards. There is still enough material there to maybe break a car window. Definitely a house window. The bottom line is I modded it to be more of a Bushcraft knife, for me, than a military knife.
I'm been watching you tube videos on mods...like on the strongarm adding a pouch....found a black pouch $4.99...smokymountain knifes....then. 4 other kinds on Amazon different color from $10..up to $19......i got two new Gerber knifes coming these week Amazon...lmf2..& bear grylls with sheath that folds... I'm still kind of new to Tek lock if I spelled that right. It seems the the large Tek locks I have don't fit one single kydex sheath the way I like. I'd like to have at least 4 points of attachments from the lock to the sheath if that makes sense. Two is all I've ever been able to find. Suggestions or supplier. Thank you
Thank you for watching and commenting!!! I appreciate it!! All my TekLok sheaths are affixed only by two points. Large and small. Never lost a sheath or had a failure. Some of my small ones are 20+ years old!!!
The prodigy sheath is worse , big rattling hunk of crap. I tricked my Prodigy out pretty much the same way. These knives are excellent very tough and with a good edge geometry , they kick butt. Theres is a channel that keeps making vids about 5 knives better than the Strongarm or why not to buy a Strongarm. Makes me want to buy another Strongarm , inflation sucks but $70 is still a fair price in my opinion. Plus the 420hc usa made heat treat is on par with other steels like 12C27n, Aus8 and others . i dont see why people hate on the knife , its a great design ..with mods its super great. 😉
Just bought one for my wife. The nylon fabric part of the sheath is floppy which, added to the tight fit when the knife is clipped in makes it awkward to deploy quickly. Any suggestions?
I've never been a fan of that sheath, hence the reason I modified mine and made it so it was attached to my belt via TekLok. However, if you neither have the tools or supplies to do that, then there are Kydex makers out there that make sheaths for the Strongarm. Look around and see if there is something you like.
You must be new here Ireland. First of all, if in fact you are Irish, welcome. I'm just shy of 100%. My who "thing" is getting knives and modifying them and making them more useful for my needs. I'm so glad I did this mod because I use the hell out of the knife now for all sorts of stuff on the farm.
@@knifetimestory I have seen a couple of your vids....I just wasn't sure why you modified it. I bet those mods aid in making it more versatile for camp tasks. Thanks again!
Thanks for watching a couple of my videos. I really do appreciate it. Yup... that is kind of my schtick, taking a great knife and then doing stuff to it to make it more quote mine unquote. Thanks again for watching
You have a good point. But so did that triangle. Basically it had three points. Each edge and the entire length of the top of it. All of which were rather sharp. I don’t need that sharp. I’m not going to be crushing anybody’s skull. And when I’m out in the woods and doing stuff I don’t want my knuckles or the back of my hand smacking against sharp thing on the bottom of the knife. And if I do need to baton the butt and a little bit, I left enough steel back there to be able to take it.
@@basednorsegael1089 I don’t run into that issue very often. So I guess I’m gonna gamble on the fact that I’m not gonna need it for the next foreseeable future!
I have three, all colors and I really like them the way they are. I also ordered three more from Temu just to experiment. Hate to say it but I truly feel they are identical accept for logo. You no doubt use yours more than I do so I can’t really debate. Gotta defer - love your video though. //ji
Temu crap is from China. Gerber Strongarm is made in the USA. I'd be curious as to how they compare, side by side in a battle royale. Thanks for watching and the nice comment.
This is a combat/survival knife. The hand guard is pretty small as manufactured for a combat knife. The point on the back is intended for fighting and smashing glass. You defeated its entire purpose. The strongarm is a superb knife for its intended purpose. Try buying the right knife next time.
Really!… A combat knife!… Thank goodness you watched the video and took the time out of your busy day to set me straight! I will most certainly check in with you the next time I’m going to buy a knife to make sure that I am getting the knife 100% properly designed for the task for which I am going to use it! You clearly missed the point of the whole video… I like to modify things. It is a great knife, but I do not need a glass breaker, nor do I need large guards. And I needed the sheath to fit on my belt. Hence the modifications. which is sort of my thing and what I share with everyone on my channel. Capiche?
@@knifetimestory Don't waste your time "checking in" with me the next time you want to destroy a perfectly good knife. I have nothing to offer you since you're clearly not subject to reason. "Capiche"? You stunad.
I feel these are very intuitive mods for this knife. I never watched a video on it, but made the exact same modifications to my Gerber Prodigy plain edge. Just makes it more usable for everyday tasks.
Glad to see I am not alone. The Prodigy is very similar to this knife. So those mods definitely would work great! Thank you very much for watching and commenting!
Have you actually had an opportunity to use this knife? I was a little “iffy“ on the handle shape when I first bought it, but I have found that it is actually comfortable to hold, has a great grip, and you can chop with it with a three finger grip.
Thank you for the compliment and the constructive criticism. I sincerely appreciate it whenever someone addresses something that is amis with my videos so I can then be sure not to do that again and improve. Since that video, I have been more conscientious about my lighting.
Owning a Strongarm for sometime now. This is a good general survival knife however much more for combat. In other words for darker things. The only thing I really had any problems with was the sheath with not much in more carrying options. Problem solved when I found Chamdar17 on RUclips. This guy makes great Kydex modifications for various knives including the Gerber Strongarm.
Thank you for watching and thank you for the good suggestion. I will look into that guy and see what his stuff looks like. I’m pretty pleased with the way my sheath turned out, but I also like to support Kydex benders!
@@dannyjackson2062 Well, I actually bought both of them from the same store. At different times obviously. And then shortly after I did the modifications I went to a knife show. And there was a Gerber booth and they had the Strongarm and it was identical to what I have. And then I went to a gun show and there were a couple guys who had some as well and they all look the same.
Not grabbing it. I, like many others, choke up on a knife to make feather sticks and such. Have such a big guard is not conducive to that. So, I shorten it.
this was really designed with prying stabbing and breaking glass in mind, it's great that you modified it to fit your desire to use it as a woodsmen knife, but if it came that way it could not be modified for what it's designed for, I have used mine for camping and general use tasks and it does fine with a little work to the edge geometry, but it also kept me from falling off of a cliff and has been used to climb trees, when stabbing anything hard with much effort even those large nodules on either end are just over minimum sufficiency, in fact if they weren't so large my hands would have slid off when using it heavily while wearing gloves, and although its painful to put a hand on the butt to aid in stabbing and the point also smashes sticks apart if you attempt to use them to drive it into a log, it can be ground off easily enough, and the point is useful for smashing thick ice covering animal waterers in winter (glass too I'd assume) without blunting the tip, as for the attachments it's great that you chose to use a different method, but I just run my belt through what you called the molle attachment which is the solid plastic part that when attached has a slit at each end, though it also comes with the two other attachments.
I’m glad you like yours, I certainly like mine now, and I really appreciate you taking the time to participate and get involved in the discussion and your kind words about my video.
Thank you very much for subscribing. You are not the first person to tell me about The Prodigy. I did buy one. I didn’t care for it at all. Just something about it didn’t feel right in my hand. So I immediately gave it away. And I don’t mind buying knives that need modification. I actually enjoy it. Keeps me busy and keeps me off the street and out of trouble! I’m glad you like the video. Thank you so much for watching it and taking the time to leave such a nice comment!
Since I do not use this for any sort of military purpose or anything like that. And I do use it for Bushcraft, it makes sense to have the glass breaker ground down. I agree with you in that if I was going to carry this knife around in my truck with me all the time and the need for a glass breaker ever did present itself, I would most certainly want to be able to use it.
Glad to hear it. I would imagine that if you choked up on the knife in the feather sticks for a long time that it would hurt. But I’m glad to hear the knife works great for you as it is. Thank you so much for watching.
I think it is more of a date code rather than a serial number. Someone pointed that out to me. I'm disappointed in that fact because I really thought I'd stumbled upon something very cool and rare. Oh well. I still love the knife.

@@knifetimestory Glad you gave the knife a good wash before preparing dinner. 😂😂😂. I agree with you on knife designers actually using prototypes before settling on a final design. However, not sure that would stop many of us from “improving” these knives per our personal taste. Or for the original $90 I can get a fantastic terava jaakaaripuuko. All knives I mentioned I personally own and need no modifications. And are lifetime blades.
Glad you like the video. Thank you for saying so. Yes… 90 bucks for that knife is steep. A month and a half ago it was $74. And this is just super super weird. I ordered a Terava Jaakaripuukko 110 on eBay on Monday, and it arrived today. $90. I can’t believe you mentioned that knife today. Of all days. What are the odds!? I’ve already modified the tang just a wee bit. And touched up the edge. So far, I love the feel of it and think it’s going to be a great knife! I’m going to run it side-by-side doing different tasks with the Garberg.
I love the Strongarm. I don't like the molly stuff on the sheath. You gave me the courage to give it a whack. I also don't care for the hollowed out handle. Prepared Mink 101 talked about tennis racket tape. It works! Great vid. zane
Thank you Zane. I have wailed on this knife pretty hard, and it’s taking it. It’s also good for lighter duty tasks as well. Even kitchen use. I’m glad you like the mods! Thank you so much for watching and taking the time as always to leave a thoughtful comment.

Yep
I also have a video on a free, no-tool sheath fix for the Strongarm...about 5 years ago. I actually prefer to leave everything intact. I did file down the small horn on the top of the blade so I could more easily put my thumb over the blade for carving. I left the bottom one in tact for slide prevention.
Thanks for posting. I also love this knife and other than my EDC, it is my most used knife. If I had to choose one knife, this would be it.
I'll have to check out your video. Thanks for watching!!
Great to know ..Will look for your mod vid! Just got a 24! Love it..but yes, not the most comfortable grip for larger hands!
The numbers are the model/sku number, not consecutive serial numbers. The pointed pommel is designed to also be a glass breaker.
I finally realized that about the serial numbers. Or that they are not serial numbers. And I know it’s a glass breaker. But I don’t need it to be so. So that’s why it’s gone now. Thank you for your input.
🤣he's a noob, that's all right, he fucked up a brand new good knife🤣
The finger guard is there for a reason. If you want a bushcraft knife, buy Mora.
I like the guard to protect my hand from sliding when it’s blood. You completely destroyed the glass breaker.
Glad you 1. Bought a Strongarm and 2. Liked my video. Thank you very much for your kind words.
On sale at sportsman's warehouse with free shipping right now for $67. Just ordered 3. I for me, 2 for brothers in military.
Great bit of information. Thank you!
What knife ya get....i got mine from smoky mountain knife. $74....but then gave me a $20 off said it was on sale so paid $56...
Great tip. I’ll have to check them out. Even though I’ve already completely mutilated and re-made my sheath. Might be nice to have back up.
Did not care for the tennis racket tape idea as well as I thought, so I mixed up some Durham Rock Hard putty and made the handle into a coke bottle. I believe I now have my new favorite knife again. At least this week.
Your channel's message to me is, "Make it yours. Make it work."
I had a feeling you probably would not. Good luck on this next one.👍🏻
It’s kinda cool how you customize your Strongarm. We all have different likes and dislikes. The part of the video I liked the best was the scenery behind you.
Glad you liked the video and scenery.
Thanks! You gave me the first smile for today with the Into😊😊😊
Glad you got a chuckle out of it!!
Better for you. Everyone's an individual with different hands and preferences and use cases. Great knife though. Props for shining light on these mods and this knife.

Thank you for watching and commenting!! I appreciate it!
This is designed as a combat knife everything you complained about has a purpose more specifically with gloves on
So I’ve been told.
@@colbyoliveaux7603 That is why I do what I do. It’s a lot of fun!!
Doesnt modifying it void the warranty?
Actually a very valid question. ESEE does not care if you do, Becker hems and haws at mods, but not sure about Gerber. When you think about it, none of my mods really compromised the structural integrity of the knife and would lead it to premature failure. So I would hope that if in fact, I did snap the knife in half or something along those lines, they would honor the warranty.
More than likely
Good info. Thank you for sharing it with everyone!
Just got mine ordered another. Love you mods !
You are very kind to say that. I certainly hope you thoroughly enjoy your knife!
What's your opinion Gerber lmf 2. With green handle. With serrated...me personally straight blad...
What a great video :) Everything you did and with your humor was fantastic. Buy this man a BEER!

Into alone was worth my sub - Thanks for the vid!

I knew what you meant!!! Glad you liked that. It was for real. Thank you for the sub!!!
1/4" Rubber faucet washers work the best for a shock mount on your sheath.
Excellent idea. Thank you very much for sharing it.
Its cool to customize knives and for what ur needs are it was needed because this is a combat knife. My opinion i like what you did it also makes it unique to you my grandfather was a prisoner of war in Germany and they was always customizing there knives from what i hear

I wish Gerber would make larger blades. I'd love something in the LHR size range that was useful on a camp site.
That's a great suggestion! A larger blade would definitely be handy for various campsite tasks. Let's hope Gerber is listening!
Im glad that you made it fit your needs, but those features exist to fit other needs.
That is awesome! I’m excited for you! Let me know your impressions after you get it!
"Think before you comment!"
I was not aware you were out there offering your editing services prior to making this video.
"Up next, I'm gonna show you how to belt grind the spine so you can open cans while you're out in the woods"
Hmmm. Excellent idea. Maybe that will be next. After that I'll look into installing a flashlight in the butt.
@@knifetimestory pls, id love to watch that
Ha Ha!! Maybe in the summer. I may have to go to the store and buy another "before" knife so I can start fresh.

I tried the prodigy. Did not care for it at all. And yes… The sheath is even worse. I really love the Strongarm . It’s awesome
I’m thinking of buying a strongarm but I don’t plan on modifying it, do you think it is worth it?
Yes. Absolutely. The only thing I would strongly suggest is to convex the edge. I find it WAY to thick otherwise.

Thanks again for watching
Do you think you could pit a False Edge on it ?
😊
Yes I could.
Why did you round off the steel on the knife butt?
A triangle is a stronger structure.
@@knifetimestory but what do you do if you have to crush a skull tho????
@@basednorsegael1089 I don’t run into that issue very often. So I guess I’m gonna gamble on the fact that I’m not gonna need it for the next foreseeable future!

thanks for the ideas and the good video.
You are welcome. Thank you for the kinds words.
Capiche?

Glad to see I am not alone. The Prodigy is very similar to this knife. So those mods definitely would work great! Thank you very much for watching and commenting!
I really like this knife but wish the handle was more ergonomic and coke bottle shaped for comfort and stability while using it.
Have you actually had an opportunity to use this knife? I was a little “iffy“ on the handle shape when I first bought it, but I have found that it is actually comfortable to hold, has a great grip, and you can chop with it with a three finger grip.
I like for the intro alone😂
I’m glad you enjoyed that. Thank you for letting me know!
I just bought the serrated edge strong arm and you wouldn’t believe what my serial number is!
Well… I have come to find out that’s not actually a serial number unfortunately. It is more of a date code. Bummer.
Yeah I gathered that after I sent the comment haha
Great review, but the back lighting made it hard to see the dark sheath work that was done.
Thank you for the compliment and the constructive criticism. I sincerely appreciate it whenever someone addresses something that is amis with my videos so I can then be sure not to do that again and improve. Since that video, I have been more conscientious about my lighting.
Man you look exactly like my grandfather Robert trigg
You must have a very young grandfather!
@@knifetimestorylol
Owning a Strongarm for sometime now. This is a good general survival knife however much more for combat. In other words for darker things. The only thing I really had any problems with was the sheath with not much in more carrying options. Problem solved when I found Chamdar17 on RUclips. This guy makes great Kydex modifications for various knives including the Gerber Strongarm.
Thank you for watching and thank you for the good suggestion. I will look into that guy and see what his stuff looks like. I’m pretty pleased with the way my sheath turned out, but I also like to support Kydex benders!
I just got a Gerber. We're you gets yours at store wise
I bought mine at and Ace hardware store in my hometown. Glad to hear that you also have one. Enjoy!
I'd get to get another one different one though not off ebay ..just to compare.
I'd just like to know why you're grabbing the hand guard...
Not grabbing it. I, like many others, choke up on a knife to make feather sticks and such. Have such a big guard is not conducive to that. So, I shorten it.
Fair enough
Does rubber hydrolyze?
I have yet to have any rubber from Gerber breakdown. That includes Gerber Gator and Gerber Gatormate that I’ve had for 25+ years.
this was really designed with prying stabbing and breaking glass in mind, it's great that you modified it to fit your desire to use it as a woodsmen knife, but if it came that way it could not be modified for what it's designed for, I have used mine for camping and general use tasks and it does fine with a little work to the edge geometry, but it also kept me from falling off of a cliff and has been used to climb trees, when stabbing anything hard with much effort even those large nodules on either end are just over minimum sufficiency, in fact if they weren't so large my hands would have slid off when using it heavily while wearing gloves, and although its painful to put a hand on the butt to aid in stabbing and the point also smashes sticks apart if you attempt to use them to drive it into a log, it can be ground off easily enough, and the point is useful for smashing thick ice covering animal waterers in winter (glass too I'd assume) without blunting the tip, as for the attachments it's great that you chose to use a different method, but I just run my belt through what you called the molle attachment which is the solid plastic part that when attached has a slit at each end, though it also comes with the two other attachments.
Yep. You are right. I just like modifying stuff and showing others that it is okay to do and not be afraid.
@@knifetimestoryRight on, just be careful about calling for the manufacturer to change a design without fully thinking it through
Don’t worry about me. I can suggest and say anything I want on my channel with impunity.
I'm happy with my Gerber as is. I did Doctor the sheath little bit but I do like your video
I’m glad you like yours, I certainly like mine now, and I really appreciate you taking the time to participate and get involved in the discussion and your kind words about my video.
Or you could just go and get a prodigy from Walmart like I did and save 20$ + mod time . Lol
Great video. I subscribed
Thank you so much for watching it and taking the time to leave such a nice comment!
removing the glass breaker is probably a bad idea just in case
Since I do not use this for any sort of military purpose or anything like that. And I do use it for Bushcraft, it makes sense to have the glass breaker ground down. I agree with you in that if I was going to carry this knife around in my truck with me all the time and the need for a glass breaker ever did present itself, I would most certainly want to be able to use it.
I use mine for everything opening cans cutting wires making fires and splitting wood i can even use it as a spear or work on leather
Tough to beat this knife for it's versatility.
Cool thing, I have 08723 batch no right after you
Excellent!!
Those mods are definitely not for me, they look unsafe, I like the knife as it is.
To each his own I guess. But, I am curious, why do you feel they are unsafe?
The knife personally never hurt my hand, I use too beat wood and just about everything
Glad to hear it. I would imagine that if you choked up on the knife in the feather sticks for a long time that it would hurt. But I’m glad to hear the knife works great for you as it is. Thank you so much for watching.
@@knifetimestory you're welcome and I see where you're coming from, good video
@@steezydoge684 Thank you again. I really appreciate the kind words and you taking the time to comment.
Morning coyote brown ..mine don't have that. Like a thump print toward front..
I'm confused about the numbers. My Strongarm in Coyote Brown is numbered 08721. So no I'm confused as to what the numbers actually mean.
I think it is more of a date code rather than a serial number. Someone pointed that out to me. I'm disappointed in that fact because I really thought I'd stumbled upon something very cool and rare. Oh well. I still love the knife.
Thank you for watching and I hope you get to find one that is truly a Gerber, and not a cheap counterfeit, but still at a good price. Keep me posted!!
@@knifetimestory хорошо дружище, Я тоже на это надеюсь.
Но очень маловероятно что найду Оригинал .
Хорошего дня и отличного весеннего настроения.

Well ordering a lmf2 now.....like to see your opinion on.....plus have you heard about statgear survival knife & the can do survival knife..its nice....
Yes I’ve heard of the stat gear survival knife. I gotta be honest, it reminds me of the Bear Grylls Gerber stuff. A lot of flashing a lot of extra do that. $39.99 for all of that kind of tells me that they’ve had to do something to keep it to that price point. And I’ve never heard of the other one.
I like the lines of the LMF 2. But… I’m having a hard time finding one that is not partially serrated.
@@knifetimestory I was looking at them on you tube...came across them...yes I agree with you reminds me of bear grylls
@@knifetimestory ganzo knife is the other one
@@knifetimestory I'll find out Monday when I go to a pawn shop the owner a knife collector & buys & sells knifes...lmf2. what $130....i can get it $110.....see if serrated or full blade..he has 3 different colors to ...coyotta brown what I'll pick
👍 Nice mods.
Thank you. Glad you like them. I used my Gerber all day yesterday. Lots of small limb removal, and then sliced onions and peppers for dinner. ( After a thorough washing of course)
@@knifetimestory Glad you gave the knife a good wash before preparing dinner. 😂😂😂.
I agree with you on knife designers actually using prototypes before settling on a final design. However, not sure that would stop many of us from “improving” these knives per our personal taste. Sometimes I believe the main reason the Mora Classics and Opinels sell so well is because folks enjoy modifying them. I really like both knives as they come, but can’t resist making changes.
Well, it's designed as a combat knife not a bush craft knife.
Nothing wrong with it.
Well… You are absolutely right. However… I wanted it as a Bushcraft Knife, so therefore, I made the necessary modifications to it, so that it would better fit what I want it to do. That doesn’t mean there’s anything wrong with the knife.
Thank you for watching and taking the time to comment. I appreciate it!
Any luck you finding lmf2 straight edg
Nope. Not yet. But not from lack of trying. I keep looking!
@@knifetimestory my favorite two knives buck 110 & lmf2
Wonder if you get a lmf2.
I’m scouring the internet for a plain edge version. I dislike serrations.
@@knifetimestory so far I'm think there all serrated.
@@dannyjackson2062 I saw one used one on eBay that was not serrated. It could’ve been a fake though.
Would you sell me the "doodads" I need a pair and can't find them anywhere
I wish I still had them to give to you. They are in the landfill somewhere. If I ever buy a third, I'll send you them.
@@knifetimestory I found a kydex manufacturer that's going to copy his for me for only a few bucks but thank you for the offer
@@toddpfister280 Fantastic. Hope that works out for you!
I hate how tech loks never line up with the holes and slots on knife sheaths. It's like they don't know what they're making them for.
Ugh, right?! It’s like they just throw the parts together and hope for the best. So annoying!
Only thing i have moded is the sheath.
What mods did you do?
@@knifetimestory I put a ranger band on the dangler part of the knife to keep it from moving, And put a single mag pouch or knife holder on the front of the sheath and put an all in one sharpener fire starter etc in the pocket. Works great.
Cool.
Recently bought one of these..
Then ended up getting a cold steel SRK..
After watching this video I have modified my Gerber and like it so much better now..
Pretty interesting how similar those two knives are. Especially the sheaths. Almost to complete plagiarism in that regard. Glad that you modified the Gerber and are happier with it now!
@@knifetimestory
for the love of god take your prototype out into the field lol..
I can already tell I liked the video once I saw ur humor at the beginning! But yes I wanna see what you had to say on the sheath
Thank you so very much for your enthusiastic kind words. I really do appreciate it. I shared them with my wife and told her this is the kind of comment that keeps me making videos. perhaps I will make a video completely about the sheath mod.
In the meantime, thanks again for watching and participating!
I don’t know why Gerber doesn’t use a better steel other the 420c
I'd go bonkers if they suddenly offered one in S35VN or 3V. I'd pay whatever they were asking.
Interesting mods, but I think your missing the whole point of this knife😮
You are not the first person to say that. I know what you mean. However, I really liked the knife, but wanted to mod it to suit me better for what my needs are. So, that is what I did and what I do with knives. I like to get something that may not be exactly what I like, but darn close, and then do mods to make it perfect for me. That is my hobby and I enjoy it. I'm not upset the knife was not perfect for me. I have fun modifying them. Especially this Gerber. I love this knife. So glad I bought it and did my mods. I do the videos so that other guys who may be in my shoes, can feel free and not hesitate to do the same sort of thing to their knives.
Thank you so much for watching and taking the time to comment. I really appreciate it.
What's funny is I have the same number on my knife as well
Yep. Much to my chagrin, I believe that is a date code or something like that and not a serial number. Oh well. I was stoked initially, but now I'm over it. Glad you have one as well!!
I totally disagree with you ! you should have written "great" for the standard version and "greater" for the modified ! Be careful next time XD lol
I fixed it. Thank you for your input!👍🏻

So for your application you really got the wrong knife! Go check out the -Gerber Strongarm Camp- ! You cannot take a combat knife and say oh it’s trash for Outdoor activities. It was not directly designed for that.
You must be new here.
My whole "thing" is buying a knife I like and tweaking it to turn it into a knife I love.

@@knifetimestory very nice. Actually my comment might have been a bit to fast forward or aggressive maybe. Actually I realised that I did some modifications to my knives to, so yeah it is nice. Thanks for sharing your knife story’s!
My pleasure. Thanks again for watching and welcome aboard!!
Nice video but I would never spend $90 dollars on a Gerber anything. But too each their own. Personally I would add another $150 to the $90 and get a LT Wright, Battle horse knife.
I JUST got my first Strong-arm a few days ago on a special deal of $27.99!! Excellent knife.

I love the Strongarm. I don't like the molly stuff on the sheath. You gave me the courage to give it a whack. I also don't care for the hollowed out handle. Prepared Mink 101 talked about tennis racket tape. It works! Great vid. zane
