Nice video, I'm Raleigh born and raised and it was interesting to see this from newcomer's point of view. If you love North Hills, try Capital Grille if you haven't already. Top notch restaurant. The heat truly comes in during June-September. It's the humidity that hurts. Just wait till you have a day where it's 99 degrees and 90% humidity. Raleigh also does a restaurant week every year, where a bunch of different restaurants each make a special menu for that week. It's a nice introduction to many of the restaurants in the area.
Raleigh is only part of the story. The Triangle as a whole is what makes the area so cool. Durham and Chapel Hill are both amazing as are some of the suburbs like Cary and Hillsborough. You didn't even touch on the world class universities -- Duke, UNC Chapel Hill, NC State -- that also makes this area unique and different from Austin. Also, there are awesome restaurants in Raleigh and the entire Triangle and it has totally developed a foodie culture with our renowned celebrity chefs and all the transplants moving in from bigger cities. And depending on where in the Triangle you live, including parts of Raleigh, you're actually less than 3 hours to mountains. Boone and Blowing Rock are closer than Asheville and are amazing mountain towns. You're right that Raleigh is more family-oriented than Austin but that's slowly changing to be more balanced -- which in my opinion is a good thing.

Actually there are some excellent locally-owned coffee houses in Raleigh. Among my favorites are Cup a Joe's (the one on Hillsborough Street - there are 2 locations) and The Third Place (on Glenwood Ave). Both are anti-Starbucks temples...
“Sir Walter” = Sir Walter Raleigh, the historical figure that Raleigh is named after. (That’s why there is a picture of a guy with a feather in his hat on the Sir Walter’s coffee cup).
We just bought a second home in Morrisville in August 2020 smack in the middle of covid. We still own a condo in downtown Boston but we love the greater Raleigh area ad we were donw there form January to mid May. I live in the 27610 area and found my house for $160 k 3 years ago. 5-10 minutes away from downtown. You haven't been to jubala coffee and need to go ASAP.
The city was named for Sir Walter Raleigh, who lead the first English attempt to establish a settlement in America in 1587. the settlement is now know as The Lost Colony. Sir Walter was later beheaded "for treason" by King James I in London in 1618. The City of Raleigh was founded in 1792, or two centuries after Sir Walter 's brief visit to America.
Born and raised in Raleigh then lived in Dallas and Austin TX. relocating to Greenville SC. Austin has a lot going for it but... it's very expensive! Raleigh is a lot cheaper both renting and home ownership. Austin is very crowded and the road system is struggling to keep up. Raleigh has a much more diverse economic base with medical, education, bio pharma, and tech along with government. Austin is tech, government and more tech and its wrecking the city. a lot of homeless and petty crime. RDU is very diverse also. I'm my opinion Raleigh lacks in several areas. Since there are no mountains nearby, there is not much hiking. Downtown is pretty meh and has a long way to go. Raleigh is suburban and rural with no urban scene. Lots of sprawl. If you want to get out of town and go somewhere interesting, plan on driving several hours. On the plus side, it has good breweries, good overall weather and not super expensive.
For a population the size of the Raleigh area, downtown is pretty lame. Overall Raleigh is a pretty boring place with low energy. Maybe if you're into family life it's ok. But if you're looking for some culture and fun people, you'll be highly disappointed in this lifeless piss ant place.

Sir Walter Raleigh was a privateer for Queen Elizabeth I. He founded the first attempted English settlement in the New world in the 1580's. The colony was on Roanoke Island at the outer banks. This was the lost colony because after England survived the Spanish armada the colonist had disappeared. Take a ride down US64 east and go to the outer banks, you will love them.

Such as reporting breaking and entering as damage to property to avoid NIBRS classificationof violent crime. 🤷♂️ but hey, everyone has different tastes. Born and raised in Eastern NC. Moved to Cary/Raleigh area a decade ago. Now I’m ready to move on to something else. Austin is one of the places that crossed my mind. We will see.
In all honesty, there is no place similar to Austin really in NC. Austin is like a slice of Cali mixed with Texas. The vibes are different. As for size and downtown, it’s a bit closer to Charlotte than Raleigh. If Austin wasn’t so close to Dallas, Houston and San Antonio, it would definitely have a professional team, but since it doesn’t have one Charlotte has that edge.
I didn't really get a Cali vibe when I visited Austin like expected to. It was more like a combination of Denver and Nashville, but hotter. I don't think there's any place in the county like Cali.
I can tell you miss Austin lol. I have lived in 3 states, California, Arizona and Colorado. One thing I have learned about myself is cold weather is NOT for me. Once I leave Colorado, I will never live anywhere again where the weather cannot accommodate Palm Trees. If it's not warm enough for palm trees to grow, it's too cold for me. I'd take the hottest summer in Phoenix, over anybody's cold, icy, snowy weather. Sorry I know I'm rambling a bit about my hate for cold weather lol. I actually like North Carolina, it's a beautiful state, and Torchy's is the bomb too by the way. Glad you got one!
Do you think this NC area is super dog friendly? Like dog friendly bars, restaurants, parks, beaches? My family is pups. Which is what I keep seeing in Austin. But the traffic and busyness seems intimidating and hotness. I live in a small Midwest state right now
Hoping to move to the Raleigh area this summer. We were considering Austin but it is too expensive now. We visited NC recently and loved Cary. Any other areas worth checking out?
Cary is excellent, best bang for your buck right now is Garner, its just south of Downtown (I live near Garner city hall and can be in downtown raleigh in about 5 or 6 minutes easy) and the housing is exploding right now, but its the last of the immediately adjacent suberbs to have that price explosion because everyone in garner is like 80 and have lived in their houses for decades, so nothing ever came on the market until the last couple years, but as those people are dying, the houses are coming up more and more and its blowing up. you'll still pay like 30% less than for Cary and in a year or so your house will be the same price as one in Cary is today.
You should consider Raleigh before Austin. Austin is too expensive, overcrowded, high cost of living, low paying jobs for the increase cost of living unless you’re in upper position of tech companies, and rude drivers and people overall. You will be better off moving to Raleigh which is much better in terms of less traffic, better paying jobs, friendlier people, and decent cost of living. PLEASE don’t choose Austin, Tx as a place to move!
@@eugenetown16 we ended up in Raleigh after I saw what was going on in Austin. We go in before Raleigh became the most competative market in the nation. I still keep an eye on the market and it is insane. I would tell others to maybe consider other markets right now.
Are you kidding...Raleigh is a great place for foodies. There are numerous top notch restaurants operated by nationally known chefs and are not only locally recognized, but nationally recognized.
The difference is that Raleigh has good restaurants, Austin has good food culture. I've also lived both places and there is no comparison, Austins food is on an entirely different level.
Hey I am a senior in highschool and I am from Raleigh. I highly recommend just checking out downtown. A great coffee shop downtown is 42 and Laurence (lots of unique options) and a good restaurant option is beasley’s chicken and homey if you are looking for a bit to eat. I hope you love the city!

How does the summer compare in both locations? How many months of serious heat is there in Austin vs Raleigh? Considering both locations but I heard Texas is hot literally half the year and idk if I can do that.
I've been to Austin and I'm not seeing where the Greatness is? There's a bar street and a couple of restaurants downtown, no culture, nothing to do or see and the rest of the area is just strip malls? I don't like strong sweaty humidity? I am a foodie.

Sunday routine for the algorithm!
@@donjuan914 Lake Travis and the western hills are very reminiscent of California... they're almost a scene out of the Bay Area.
So many great subtle transitions and edits, S/O Greg and Travis!
Greg is killing it!!!!
Shout out to Greensboro my home town! I currently live in Dallas.
I lived in Austin too! I'm fond of seasons so I have to pick Raleigh over Austin. Nice vid...
Do you think this NC area is super dog friendly? Like dog friendly bars, restaurants, parks, beaches? My family is pups. Which is what I keep seeing in Austin. But the traffic and busyness seems intimidating and hotness. I live in a small Midwest state right now
ehhh.... not nearly as much so as Austin. Austin is the most dog friendly city I have ever seen.
Thanks for all your content!
Happy Sunday, Travis and fam 😎
I live right here with you buddy! I love it!
Awesome content man! Looking to moving there soon!
Hoping to move to the Raleigh area this summer. We were considering Austin but it is too expensive now. We visited NC recently and loved Cary. Any other areas worth checking out?
Cary / apex is great!
It depends how close you want to be to downtown Raleigh and/or Durham.
Compare traffic is there's a difference between the two
Much more traffic in Austin
@@BusinessAndFitness Wow ok much more I now live in Beaumont Texas moving to Pflugerville and working in downtown Austin what maybe my commute time
@@marlonbeckett8793 will all depend on what time you leave
I thought you’d like to know they opened a summer moon in Wake Forest.
Yes! I can’t believe I haven’t been yet but plan to
Great video man , keep it up. Huge help
Are you kidding...Raleigh is a great place for foodies. There are numerous top notch restaurants operated by nationally known chefs and are not only locally recognized, but nationally recognized.
Cool !
Thanks !!
Awesome review and editing Travis. I will visit Raleigh in the near future 🎥🎬🚀
I can't take the heat and I hate the cold... anybody know where it's 70 degrees with scattered clouds and a slight breeze every day?
San Diego 8 months a year LOL
@@BusinessAndFitness haha you hit the nail on the head about moving to California tho
It's going to be in the 70s and slight breeze all week here in the IE of California lol
Thanks for the vid bro! fellow Ohio boy that’s lived in Austin and moving to Raleigh in two weeks.
I want to move from Silicon Valley to Raleigh. Please suggest which location is best for big homes in suberb that’s not too far from Triangle park where all the Tech jobs are.
Morrisville
Hey Travis,
Seems like you're in holly springs area. If so check of cultivate coffee in FV, full bloom coffee in Garner, and/or meeples brew in Mooresville. As far as small town gyms: bull and bear in FV, Olympus athletic club in Raleigh.
I've heard good things about Cultivate!
Speaking of Austin, I been watching your old Austin videos. I can't find where you went for the duck tacos though! Of course, I been to Chi'lantro, Summermoon, round rock donuts, and Freebirds
Duck Tacos are in Raleigh at Bar Taco :)
The crazy thing is in 05 we moved from NC to Texas, because Tx (DFW) was so much cheaper. And now it seems to be going the opposite way, Lol.
What’s the closest beach from Raleigh? Looking to move there from South Florida. Huge change but we both work remote so might try it out!
Wilmington !
@@BusinessAndFitness we ended up singing a lease and moving to North Hills Raleigh! Pretty excited for the change! Have never been but heard good things.
@@IamJLAD you’ll love it. We lived in park central in north hills and loved it
I am moving from SATX to Raleigh for work. I’m looking forward to living in NC
You’ll love it !
Which builder did you use for your beautiful home? Is this in a community? Thanks
I love Sunday mornings...cause I know a new video is coming haha 😄
How does the summer compare in both locations? How many months of serious heat is there in Austin vs Raleigh? Considering both locations but I heard Texas is hot literally half the year and idk if I can do that.
Texas is hotter for sure .
Great video. i am moving to Raleigh in the next 12 mo.
what about crime and health care comparison? Please share
Really? Domain is your favorite? Its a big shopping center in the middle of open land with no trees. To each their own.
K
I’m a Texan but move here to North Carolina for University and love living in Cary
O2 is a local chain tho I mean they started in NC I think and only have gyms in north and South Carolina
I've been to Austin and I'm not seeing where the Greatness is? There's a bar street and a couple of restaurants downtown, no culture, nothing to do or see and the rest of the area is just strip malls? I don't like strong sweaty humidity? I am a foodie.
Cool!!
Houston has FAR better food than Austin. If you’re still in Austin, take a weekend trip to Houston just for the food.
Great video and lots of good info from a N8tive of the Triangle Area!!
What was that about Cali? Not sure I understood ;) We're btwn Austin vs Raleigh and have to make a decision asap. We love the outdoors, cultural activities (international, eclectic, open minded people) lived in Chicagoland area many years, but hail from Europe (France/Germany.)..humidity and I aren't friends, but really sick of the cold here! No kids, so not really looking for "family" life. Safety/crime also a concern..thnx
Austin!!!!
Wilmington is amazing 💯 and shout out Petey Pablo on the intro #respect
That’s a cool little down and Jacobs well is awesome
Pine State Coffee is the best in Raleigh. Trophy Brewing has the best pizza in town. We don’t get much snow and ice but a 1/2 inch of it shuts the whole damn state down hahaha.
I prefer Lilly’s over trophy!
Which would you live in…Raleigh vs Charleston and why?
Raleigh!
@@BusinessAndFitness Thank you
