I'm not a Bach fan, but the silver bell made the nicest sound in my ears. For the other 2, I liked the Yamaha on the Mahler, but I like the Shires on the Goldman.

    Mystery round guess:
    1. Bach
    2. Shires
    3. NY
In general, I like the sound of the Yamaha the best. Especially on Caprice.

Great performance master. For me Shires have more consistency in all register but less showing. The sound of Bach is more free and fluid. The sound of Yamaha is little annoying, I didn’t consistency in all notes. In general your performance is excelent, you can do a concert with any of them in the orchestra.

This is like that meme with Pam from The Office where she says it's the same picture. There are very subtle differences, but they are sooo small! Most people probably wouldn't even notice. They all sound great though!

The shires was interesting in a way each note folds over the previous one similar in tone color to the yamaha. The bach had an instantly recognizable earth like tone

    Very interesting comparison!
Ever play-tested any of the Monette Cs?

How did you feel playing each on each example? Was the Shires easier on the Charlier? Did the Bach slot better on Enter the Heros? Did the Yamaha feel like your horn?

I thought the mystery order was Bach, Yamaha, Shires. In general, I thought the Bach sounded freer and clearer in the high register.

I don't know of anyone in the history of ever who plays a Bach 239 sterling, so I'm not sure if this is really a fair comparison test...

Nonsense. I have one. Mine is Bach 239 C #249xx Silver special order about a million years ago, mid 1960's, I don't remember the year. Veteran SF CA Sym, Opera, Ballet. Oakland CA opera, Victoria BC Sym, numerous city park bands, stc. I still love it as my old friend, but I would like to try a Yamaha C if I could find one. I could only pick out the Bach most of the "trials", Shires a surprise. Added: Thanks for demonstration & comparisons. poka, 12-28-23

    1 Yamaha
    2 Shires
    3 Bach ( I play this horn except it’s a brass bell)

Yamaha-Shires-Bach: The Shires had the most ease of expression but lacked proper sound quality when played soft. Yamaha worked on everything but was too solid and focused robbing it of expression. Bach was nice but it felt like you had to work harder on consistency especially the low range, where it lacked clarity. Sorry I like Schilke, because its characteristics have never changed and it still to his day sounds more wright than anything else.
