Good move, California. It's about time people stopped tolerating this kind of behavior. It's sick the path our country is on, led by MAGA, the Republicans and Trump who've normalized crime.
Now they need to do the same for identity theft and squatters.
Wow, stealing is illegal who would’ve thought it freaking ridiculous every one of these pieces of crap should be put in jail
Yet trillions are lost annually to white collar crime but those are above the law cos they got the complexion for the protection
They will have to rewrite the law books.
And speeding as well
And Newsom was complaining about how he couldn't believe that the State's voters would approve of this measure. It's almost like he wants crime to flourish to drive honest citizens and businesses out of the state.
Of course he would complain. The more chaos the easier it is to tear down society and put their "utopia" in place....
Newsome, Aunt Nancy Pelosi, and the rest of them are criminals for encouraging and aiding great dangers to the public.
That’s because HIS voters want lax rules, don’t care about laws and morality, and are constantly looking for a handout.
Makes me want to beat my head on the wall! How stupid are these people? Stealings is a CRIME.
He does want crime to go up so that he, when it's REALLY out of hand, can come in and "rescue" CA with more draconian laws.

Look at that Trump isn’t even in office and things are changing for the better.
Yeah had Harris been in office they wouldn't care they'd still protect criminals
Who do these people think they are, why do they think they are entitled to take from someone else??? Could you imagine if someone went to their home and walked out with their stuff. Stealing cheapens the productivity of goods produced, a company has spent hours developing goods for sale, you must pay for goods, otherwise nobody will have jobs. These girls make me vomit!
Imagine that. Life has consequences again.

So again refer to my first question....
So shocked that enforcing laws would suppress crime 😂 Who would have thought
Woke would say that's a discrimination act.
CA did this intentionally to run the small businesses out.
@malin7919 Yeah, but it's discriminating against criminals.
😂👍

There was a shop I saw that raised all the shelf prices to $1000 so that any theft at all can be charged as a felony. Then for the people who want to pay for items normally, they would just give you the discount at the register to bring the price back down to normal.
Imagine, punishing thieves is news in 2024. 🤦
“Shocked”? Like they thought they didn’t do anything wrong?🙄
She wasn't shocked. Just a sensationalist headline. She was just surprised it was a felony.
That's the sad thing. In their minds, that's normal. No remorse whatsoever for stealing.

New York needs this law ASAP!
YES!!! 💯
This needs to be a law across the country, not a NEW law, but an ENFORCED law.
It's about time.
Blame these lawmakers for allowing this in the first place 🔥. Nowhere on earth shoplifters have rights to steal
It wasn't the lawmakers. The people voted for prop 47 in 2014 because they were too stupid to actually read what the bill said.
The people of California are the ones who voted to reduce these crimes to a misdemeanor. After crime exploded, they finally grew a brain and voted to go back to what they had before. Californians aren't the brightest bunch, that's for sure.
Yes, the jail gonna be overpopulation for a while before they got the message
Never thought I'd see California do something good for once
Perhaps Newsome is not feeling well or something like that.
This clip does talk about Seal Beach and Bakersfield- two red cities in red counties who voted overwhelmingly for Trump.
The voters made this happen. Not Newsom.

If it's Indiana Jones, it's his "misunderstanding."
Zero crime there to, kind of shows the harsh punishments make people think twice.
Yes, sometimes right there in the store. They draw back a stump.
Saudi doesn’t have a certain racial problem. They barely let women drive lol
Send these shoplifters there

Exactly... here in nc people are stealing from dollar stores and everywhere 😢 I know times are hard right now but they’re resources out there to help people... nowadays people of all ages are stealing. I'm not from there either. It's crazy how they let it things fall apart. Here the police don't do anything. The community 'takes care' of shoplifters, so shoplifting very seldom occurs.

@jasonbradley2807 oh, thanks. Didn't know it was just in one state.
About time they start holding them accountable.
This is why everything costs so much...to offset loss by thieves.
That's the real shinkflation. Retail shrink/theft.
Corporations quite literally steal 10 times as much from us in wage theft as we steal in petty larceny. Overtime never paid, tips stolen, and just straight up withholding paychecks accounts for over 40 billion taken from Americans every year.
Theftflation lol!
Corporate wage theft is around 40 billion a year. Petty larceny adds up to maybe 4 billion. They steal more from us than we could ever carry out with two hands.
I dare you to look up the annual petty larceny total compared to the amount corporations steal from Americans in wage theft.
So glad I voted YES on prop 36.
I'm very pleased to see my vote giving people consequences. Finally
