Hands down my favorite fish! I had a cichlid tank for about 10 years. It broke my heart, but I gave the tank to a family member who was having some depression. But I knew he was a fish fanatic, and I hoped it would cheer him up. What can I say, family over fish. It's been years, but I'm saving up for another beautiful cichlid tank. They are amazing, intelligent little guys!

First of all, your pond is amazing! It's my dream to have such a beautiful pond of african cichlids!
At 15:21, the blue fishes with yellow fins are Pseudotropheus Acei from Lake Malawi. It's so cool that you added some branches of wood because Pseudotropheus Acei are frequently found in sandy areas near fallen branches of wood and tree trunks in the wild. They graze algae on the wood. At 10:02 these are "Maingano" (not maingamo), now their scientific name is Melanochromis Cyaneorhabdos. And you're right, these fishes are called "Mbunas", which means "rockfish".

  • @420homelands

I would love to see you add some Frontosa to your pond. They are considered the gentle giants of the african cichlids and would get massive in your pond. Not to mention they are gorgeous!

  • @Parakeetwilds

Love this video! If I can give you a suggestion, I would consider adding Shell dwelling cichlids in the Nursery area! a trio of Frontosa Cichlid as the King of the REc-Pond and a small school of Neolamprologus leleupi or Lemon Cichlid to the Rec-Pond as well.
Also If you are trying to 'imitate' the African Rift-valley Lakes, Than, consider adding Small Catfish as a population control in the Future.
Also You should consider adding Jungle and Corkscrew Vallisneria plant in-between the waterlilies, Anubius sp. and Lotus plants at /around the shoreline (and a couple Freshwater Mangrove trees in-between the Biofilter and Nursery)!!!
Keep up the Amazing work! I can't wait for the next vlogs!!!

Please consider adding Victorian chiclids to your pond kenan! They come from the 3rd lesser known rift lake. They are zo beautiful and under appreciated! Also look into synodontis lucipinnis or Petracola, both are small species of catfish native to tanganyika. I work at a fish store down here in Portland Oregon that's famous for having one of the biggest supplies and varieties of African cichlids in the country. I'd love to see more rift species represented in your pond!

This is an amazing idea! When you're adding plants, I would suggest some anubias. It's native to Africa, tough enough that cichlids don't eat it, it can grow into massive clusters with roots that act like mangroves (fry nurseries), it can attach to rocks or logs, and it can grow up through the surface.

Definitely need a couple Razorback musks running around in there. They won’t harm the fish and are small enough to not add a heavy bio load, and big enough to not lose them. Great video. Rec pond is my dream

  • @gumby8274
    @gumby8274 5 лет назад

Great video! As a cichlid guy myself, I love seeing people take interest in their behavior. Amazing parents and amazing life cycles throughout the family.
I would suggest one KINDA big thing though. To truly experience the behavior of the small cichlids of the rift lakes, you need a predator. 2 or 3 emperor cichlids (preferably of the same sex) would keep populations in check and bring out the natural rock dwelling behavior of the smaller species.

You are a great inspiration to me and I really appreciate the way that you share your animals and pets with your fans. I only wish that I was able to have my own house, that way I could build my own one day and enjoy it. I am a very interested in the cichlids of all 3 lakes in Africa and have kept many of them, however, I tend to want more than I can handle and it then becomes a problem for me. Right now I don't have any tanks up and running, but I will in the next few weeks, I will post pictures of them once I've done that, until then.

Ok,you win most natural tropical pond on RUclips. Outstanding ..extremely natural rockwork . I wouldn't change much..maybe add more red Peacocks..the whole rainbow of them. A few Synodontis to keep the fry numbers down to manageable. Or, and, Haplochromis to thin the young herds.
You must have some sort of winter heating? Big bill on that?
Predator birds or Raccoons? I hate them!
Maybe just for fun..you add a wave maker to dump 50 or 100 gallons and make a wave that spreads across the pond?
    Congrats!
