    For years I've thought about how cool it would be to have a tank full of African cichlids -- I just love the look and behavior of African cichlids. After seeing this though, I'm thinking -- screw the tank, I want a whole damn pond of African cichlids that I can swim in!

    • @lotuscampbell8660

      raelonewolf there pretty cool fish. I have had a 125g full of them for a couple years now but personally they get a little boring. They don’t have much personality. I have really been getting into south American chiidlids lately. they all seem very diffrent no matter the fish! But for the pond I think African chichlids are the perfect fit. If I had this pond I would prolly have to do the same thing. Possible some more mabuna tho

    • @zakhassan9722
      @zakhassan9722 4 года назад +4

      i think biggest thing to make sure of is that ur pond won't overflow and that if it does the fish can't escape into the surrounding waterways. Plenty of times it's happened and cichlids end up dominating the ecosystem

    So incredible and worth it!! Me and my grandkiddos are building a pond, falls, creek! In Idaho! I built one small pond, fall, creek when I had a broken knee even! When my kids were little, they loved it so much! So, now our next generation! They grandkiddos are so excited about it! My back yard is already an animal’s habit, a humans too! Now I want the pond area bigger for us to scuba dive!! So it started just for our fish, then grew to wading and a swim area, now! Swimming literally under with much habitat, and fish!! Unbelievably beautiful how all yours has grown, oh yes, building one for the front yard too!!

    key Kenan! love the pond and how its coming along! might I suggest to add in a natural predator to the tank like a peacock bass or 2 just to control the cichlid population temporarily. you can see how there are cichlids with mixed colours now due to cross breeding and as time goes by the colours all mix and mix and mix till your left with muddy looking cichlids. you could also cast net a bunch and feed the OB or mixed colours ones to slinky hahaha which is good control so you have nice vibrant cichlids! just a tip

    • @danwilson5160

      Adding a predator would affect the brightly colored fish more as they'd be easier prey, would mean more muddy looking fish.

    I just happened upon this video and loved it..At one time, I had 20 tanks in my home...Currently, I maintain a small pond that is less than a thousand gallons...The one thing I did not see in your magnificent ponds was a plecostomus...There is no doubt they would thrive there..A very friendly addition that will not bother any of your fish, and your fish would not bother them..as you know, they are only algae feeders..that pond would keep them happy for years..

      some land tortoise species like leopard do paddle swim , even sulcata too

    • @TheJesusAlejandra
      @TheJesusAlejandra 4 года назад +19

      @@sdqsdq6274 They can only "swim" for so long until they drown. When my sulcatas would accidentaly fall in the pool they would sink because of their weight. It can kill them if theyre not found in time. I.m.o. they can't swim, jus float for a short while

    You should really consider getting a mpu puffer for the pond. They originate from Africa and would be super cool in something like this.

    • @tilapiastew6784
      @tilapiastew6784 4 года назад +2

      That may not be the best idea, the mbu puffer gets pretty big and has an extremely powerful beak that could easily take a finger off. They are not normally aggressive but just them being curious could cause someone a serious injury.

    I got to say your pond is the most natural like pond. This is how pond should be. Your pets live in a very natural habitat There are so many beautiful ponds around but this one absolutely best one. To walk around in the yard would be like walking at a creek or a stream in the mountain.

    Great underwater footage of your pond and fish. I enjoy the slow panning to capture all the details unlike most of the younger tubers that always film too fast and bounce around.

    What a fantastic idea! Build your own outdoor aquarium and swim in it. I love this. Now how about planting edible landscapes? Elephant ear replaced with taro, for example. Watercress. Water chestnuts. Edible bamboo.

    I suggest youput an orchid net above the pond to filter excess sunlight which produces algae in the pond. If you would like to try what ive been using as effective filter media for crystal clear water, i suggest using charcoal medium. Nice pond.
