- This is a video comparing the Leupold Santiam HD vs Vortex Razor HD side by side to see which spotting scope is better. Colby spent over an hour testing the two scopes in low light conditions on his local winter range. After comparing the two side by side Colby determined the Leupold was better or more clear than the Vortex even though it has a smaller objective lens and less zoom power. Colby has used both spotting scopes extensively and both are good scopes but he determined the Leupold has slightly better glass and presented a more clear image as it got darker. #hunting #scouting #leupold #vortex #spottingscope #review #comparison

Thank you for the very informative review and comparison. In for the Leupold SX5 Santiam and MADE IN THE USA (and they can actually repairs in house instead of sending a new Chinese replacement like Vortex is known to do) made my decision much easier.
It's a huge pet peeve of mine whenever I buy premium spotting scopes and expensive rifle scopes that aren't perfectly clear on their maximum magnification.
Vortex razor spotters are made in the USA

Thanks for the review. Any updates on the performance of these scopes in the field? Which one do you like using the most?
We ran the Razors for 3 years and we have now ran the Santiam for the past 2 years. We have stayed with the Santiam because of the edge to edge clarity and it fits in the back a little better only being 80mm on the objective lense.

Ya need to put a digi-scope mount on them I’ve used both and both are excellent for the money. Can find the vortex on sale for sub $1400 if looking around
I have a magview system on the Leupold but I didn’t have one to put on the Vortex at the same time.
Where did you get the eyepiece cover on the leupold

What is the distance to the deer at the end of the video?
From what I remember, it was 800-1000 yards.
I thought they were made at the same factory in Japan. Is the current 2023 Vortex Razor spotting scope still made in Japan or have they shifted to China by now?
Last I heard, Leupold was made in Beaverton Oregon and Vortex was made in the Philippines.
Vortex uses Japanese glass and is assembled in the USA. This is only for their Razor lineup as far as I know.

I guess Meopta Meostar S2 82 and Nikon monarch ED 82 can be tough to judge plus side of Meopta Meostar S2 82 is it has fluride glass but not sure pure fluorite crystal or some amount of fluoride mixed in the glass.
