Well it‘s also important to note that this years Spa quali in F1 was in damp conditions. They would‘ve been 3-4 secs faster on a completely dry track with rubber on it. Max‘s pole time last season was a 1:43.66 and this years pole time from Max a 46.1… The Ferrari would‘ve probably done a low 1:43 this year and Max probably a sub 43.

Nothing surprising to see here And now that I have your attention: I can only suggest for everyone watching here to go ahead and watch a WEC race. They are not so fast. LMP1 was faster than Hypercars. But for a car which cost around max 10 million comparing to the 150 million car it's amazingly fast.

really hoping we'll get to 2020 speeds again soon. even F1 itself has a "F1 for beginners - Everything you need to know about F1" animation video on their site since march where the cars hit 370 kmph. Can't remember the last time this speed has been achieved in a race. Feels like the cars are so slow and sluggish now.
I love the video! I will say that maybe using Spa data for the comparision is a bit unfair since Spa for the WEC car was much much much colder and really damp as well so the tyres had no windows to properly work I would love to see a Monza comparision coming the F1 round to the temple of speed.

LMP1 is much faster than Hypercar Class! LMP1 have higher horse power and lower weight at only 930 to 985 KG correct me if I am mistaken. FIA WEC limited the horse power of Hypercar to 700 to 670 HP only. They also made it heavier at 1030 KG.The Hypercar can match this Formula 1 race car if it has 1,000 plus HP and lighter than 1,000 KG. The Formula 1 here have more than 1,000 HP and it is like only under 800 KG in weight. The result is not surprising to me. In the past the Porsche 919 Evo unrestricted ran faster than the Formula 1 of Red Bull and Mercedes-Benz. Toyota's LMP1 at the time can also match a Formula 1 IF UNRESTRICTED. I was a bit disappointed to Le Mans Hypercar because I thought they will bring back supercars and hypercars on the road to be used as race cars in the racing circuit but it all cars was purpose built race cars that never resembled any road car hypercar or supercar. I do hope next years Hypercar will look more like road cars modified for the racing circuit to become race cars! Hypercars, LMP1 & LMP2 body the design, I want the shark fins to go away or to be remove because it makes the race car look more ugly!

Curious with 2026 F1 rule changes, estimations of the ICE producing about 500-550hp, and an electric motor about 500hp, the numbers get awfully close to the same power, but probably about 75kg lighter than the LMP1 hybrids of 2015. For sure, F1 cars are going to slow down. They will still be faster than hypercar class, but would they still be much faster than the LMP1 hybrid golden era?

Can you please do Indycar vs F1 car. In indy500 this year, some top cars averaged 233+mph in the qualifying. In F1, most cars do their drs overtake around 310-350kph range. It would be awesome to see the comparison at least in a circuit that is not oval.
Indy car gets destroyed by F1 everywhere except ovals. F1 corners so much better and has much better acceleration. You’d need a track with massively long straights for the Indy car to catch up. Still would be overall slower lap times.

Straight line speeds are influenced by many factors. Remember it’s not a drag race where both cars are starting out at the same speed. A straight is generally preceded by a corner. The car that can corner at higher speed will exit a corner at a higher speed, allowing it to begin the straight at a higher speed. F1 has more power as well. The advantage a prototype has over and f1 can’t be appreciated because of addl weight, less power and aero constraints of prototypes these days, that advantage is superior downforce to drag ratio.

So. There is a fundamental problem with the SF23 comparison. The assumption is that it won’t blow up, due for engineering incompetence. It won’t spin off due to driver incompetence . And that it will be on track in time due to team management incompetence.
Now compare with it the Toyota TS050 Hybrid 2017 or Porsche 919 Hybrid 2017 Even while lifting and coasting every corner they both managed to do a 1:53. They probably would run 1:50 or 1:49 without lift and coast. And without battery, fuel and aero package restriction (like the 919 evo), they would be as fast as the W11 depending on the driver skill and the amount of preparation/practice. For example Neel Jani in a 919 evo was faster than Bottas (Q3) in a W11 but slower than Hamilton (level of preparation Q3). So the driver skill is very important to give us the full potential of the car but also the amount of training and preparation.
