    The idea that Urban Meyer would even remotely consider the Michigan State job is all time LOL. IF he comes back to coaching, it’s going to be at an elite program with a roster that is ready to roll. Even in the transfer portal era, Michigan State is a 3-4 year rebuild. That roster is MAC worthy.

    You see what a joke this is? If the situation was reversed, the only thing they would be talking about is how bad MSU was going to pummel UofM. But here we are, ignoring the game completely. The MSU game as always can only hurt UofM, it will never be a positive for UofM.
    How is MSU a better overall program than Nebraska, Wisconsin, or Iowa? They are are right there arround 6 or 7th in the conference before we add Oregon, UCLA, USC, and Washington... all of which are better programs than MSU.

    There are two issues with Mike and Rico's logic.
    #1. Money. They act like Michigan State has more money than every other program in America. Plenty of other universities can offer coaches equal to more money than MSU.
    #2. This is not MSU's fault perse but the state of Michigan is in flyover country. You have to give somebody a real good reason to slum it there if they can get another coaching job on either east or west coasts, Florida, and/or Texas. Notre Dame? Sure. Ohio State? Sure. But to voluntary leave a good state/part of the county and move to there? Nah.

    Valenti, like most MSU fans have a recency bias. They all think that 2008 to 2019 is the norm. When in fact 08-19 was unique. Historically mSu has had 2 periods where they dominated Michigan. The 1950/60s before Bo , and the 08-19 stretch. Both periods coincided with Michigan down periods. MSU is not a top 25 program historically, and in this current NIL and big ten expansion climate isn’t a desirable job.

    Michigan fan here. I'm slightly below you on this one Valenti, but I absolutely agree with your logic. You have a top-25 program, facilities, being in a super-power conference, you hit all that on the head. Here is where I differ though. You have programs like Washington and USC coming in to your conference. Do you have to play them every year? No. But they still bring more power into the Big Ten. If i went straight off of your metric without the PAC schools, Michigan State is, in my opinion, ahead of Penn State at #3 in the conference. But Washington and USC now push Michigan State down to #5, plus Mel Tugger drops you down to #6 alone, just because of how much wool he pulled over everyone's eyes and how much money he stole from the school and the alumni. I say Michigan State is an average 7.5 win team now. I also think Michigan State will retread a washed out coach, like Nebraska is doing with Rhule, and Rutgers is doing with bringing back Schiano. If I were an upstart coordinator, or a head coach on the rise in a smaller school, I'd steer as clear as I could of Michigan State. Their leadership is garbage, I think Haller is a joke, and I think Michigan State is going to fall into a hole that will take them a LONG time to get out of, and they'll need a reincarnation of what Dantonio did for that program to get out of it.

Over the years they have attracted a huge fan base and their events boast great attendance records. MSU has outstanding facilities and they have enormous sports revenue support. There is No Reason why Spartan Football should not be reaching for the stars and focusing their efforts and their revenue on building a football program that is a serious, top ranked contender in the Big Ten every single year!!!!!

  • @dzelpwr
    @dzelpwr 11 месяцев назад

    Shoot for the moon. MSU has the money, the problem is a top coach may want to hold out for a program that already practically recruits itself. Michigan State has had a few too many black eyes lately, but if the administration can make a convincing case both with their pocketbook and reassurances that a new coach will be given several seasons to right the ship and get recruiting where it needs to be.
    I'd look for good co-ordinators that are being taken seriously as potential future head coach prospects.
    Michigan's Sherrone Moore keeps getting mentioned as a future head coach. I don't know if he'd go straight to the enemy of the program he's currently at, but just a similar principle.
    As far as coaching head coaches themselves, Jedd Fisch at Arizona is an interesting one. That team was bottom of the PAC12 and they're now losing games to the top of the conference by only one score. Lost to an SEC team in OT. May not sound great just yet, but compared to where that program was when he got there, it's a substantial turnaround.
    Fisch helped co-ordinate some of the highest scoring NFL games when he was at the Rams. He also was Michigan's QB coach in 2016, he made Wilton Speight seem competent. That's saying something because even when he was here, I don't think anyone viewed the kid as anything special even within the program at the time. But he worked well with Fisch on a personal level and took Ohio State to double OT that year...
    Fisch left after the 2016 season and Michigan literally could not throw the ball for most of 2017. It was bad. That's where they started to run the ball 90% of the time.
    Might be a bit if an under the radar pick, but as a Michigan fan, his absence was sorely felt for a couple seasons after he left.
    He's a very good offensive mind and I think he's now starting to prove his mettle as a program rebuilder at Arizona.

    • @dzelpwr
      @dzelpwr 11 месяцев назад

      Fisch was Co-oc at the Rams when they beat the Chiefs 54-51.

    The caliber of college teams is who can you convince to come? If MSU takes a MAC coach people know that's our ceiling. If we convinced Saban to come back (never going to happen, before y'all pounce on me), then we'd be talked about on every broadcast. Luke Fickell turning MSU down and going to Wisconsin is a black eye. The question becomes whether theyre all flash and no substance. My expectation is that MSU lands another Mel, a power 5 coach that is out of their depth at their current program, dying to buy themselves a few more years of "building" and take the check. The fanbase is happy for two years until we realize we again never built anything.

      Mike Elko at Duke is a rising star that might listen to an offer from MSU for the right price. MSU has a higher ceiling consistently than Duke and values football more. Same situation for Lance Leipold at Kansas. He’s doing an amazing job. Clark Lea at Vanderbilt is not the same level yet, but he’s also doing a respectable job turning that program in a positive direction from absolute zero.
      I think MSU should make Mark Stoops say no first, though. Kentucky is what it is. He might be ready for a new challenge. He’s a good recruiter in Big Ten country and developer of talent.
