  • Cultural Anthropologist, Terry Buffington shares her passion for social justice with personal stories of her own lived experiences in Mississippi’s Jim Crow society.
Born under Jim Crow is a series of twenty-one life histories and oral narratives about the lived experiences of Black Mississippians prior to, the 1960 Civil Rights Movement as she was actively involved with the Student Non-Violent Coordinating Committee (SNCC) in the sixties. Much of her ensuing anthropological research focused on the lived experiences of Black males who, in 1960, were high school students enrolled in the “Negro” public school system in the town of West Point, Mississippi.
Born under Jim Crow is the result of the Cultural Anthropological method and extensive fieldwork while living in West Point, Mississippi in the early 2000’s. There will be an NFT collection of 1k beautifully crafted individual drawings on the Polygon blockchain, inspired by my original 1957 school photo as the book and the NFT will coincide with each other!
