- I've been hearing good things about this show and wanted to check it out for myself, so I figured why not take you all along? There's a lot to like here but the songs are something else 🤯

I think it really highlights the underuse of gifted singers in musical film and tv. Also I’m editing part 2 and I said the same dumb thing in that one 😂
Almost all the demons you see here are former humans - "Sinners." Charlie was born there (daughter of Lucifer and Lilith) and there are other native to Hell demons (though we mostly see those in the companion series, Helluva Boss), but Alastor, Nifty, Husk, Angeldust, the other Overlords at the meeting are all former humans.
Ohhhhhh I gotcha. So everyone is considered a demon just by being there?

@@RhetoricalThrill Demon is a blanket term for everyone in hell, yeah. Sinners are human souls who died and went to hell - and fun fact, sinners can't die in hell. If they're killed they just come back to life and if their body is destroyed or eaten they just re-manifest somewhere else later. Only angelic weapons can permanently kill them, that's why heaven sends an exorcist army down to exterminate them, sinners die forever if killed by angelic weapons. Lucifer added a clause when heaven wanted to exterminate people in hell, to not harm any hellborn. Only kill sinners.
Then there's hellborn, everyone born in hell (sinners can't reproduce). Hellborn include imps, hellhounds, loan sharks, the Goatia (a sort of noble bloodline of hellborn demons who are very powerful by blood), and the 7 deadly sins (Asmodius, Beelzebub, etc.)
Also "Overlord" is just a title demons obtain by being a sort of mafia boss and/or owning a lot of souls. This gains them power over other demons so they name themselves overlord. Alastor is an overlord, but anyone can be overlord. Sinners or hellborn, just gotta have influence and souls owned.
On Carmilla keeping quiet about killing the angel:
She's not worried about demons dying in an all-out war with heaven, she's worried that she might very well might lose her daughters and her (possibly)only real friend in all of Hell.

Yeah, I didn't do very well at expressing myself on that one 🤣 You're quite correct, she doesn't want full on war in hell because her family would be in danger. And let's face it, she's got a good thing going in general.

A lot of people misinterpret her motivations there for sure, they're actually quite selfish while a lot of people mistake them for benevolence. She doesn't give a crow about what others in Hell might want she's looking out for her own (very small) group of people and that's pretty much it. She's an arms dealer, including selling blessed holy weapons. If she cared about the people of Hell in general she definitely wouldn't be doing that, lol.
@kenjutsukata1o1 She doesn't care about anyone else, that is one of her bad qualities. But her GOOD quality is indeed that those she DOES care about mean EVERYTHING to her. That is her main GOOD quality.
She actually turned down being recognized as the first Sinner to kill an Exorcist, something that would have won her a LOT of clout as an Overlord, out of fear the knowledge would put those She cared about in danger.
That actually WAS selfless.

The pilot is scattered throughout the series. But I think it is important for the concept of the plot

My favorite part of when people marathon this is the complete tone shift from episodes 1-3 to episode 4. It’s just a bit of a shock to go from fun egg boi adventure to abuse and SA. Episode 4 was honestly so well done and it definitely is a turning point in the series!
I’m glad I went to that episode, it’s got me hyped for what’s to come!
The world generally has sinners (those from earth with souls) and hell-born. The show focuses on the sinners because that’s who Charlie is trying to redeem. When a sinner is killed in hell, they just sort of reform- they can’t really die- except by the angels during the Extermination. Demon is just kind of thrown around for any denizen of hell but especially regarding the powerful. That is my take on things.

"Where did the demons come from?" Some are fallen angels like Lucifer or the children of fallen angels like Charlie, some are born in Hell also like Charlie.
People weren't really shocked over how raunchy or "adult" it was. They were shocked that it came from animation with actual effort. When you think of adult animation like Family Guy, South Park, and Rick & Morty, what's the first thing you notice? They all look like shit. The animation is low budget. There's this mindset in the U.S. that animation is only for children, so all adult animation looks like crap to let everyone know it's not for kids.

A sinner`s form in Hell reflects their fears and traumas on Earth hence Niffty looking like a ladybug, being the most sadomasochistic demon in the show aside from Alastor whom she`s closest to of all the other Hotel residents to the point she`s the only one unapologetically asexual Alastor allows to climb up on and touch him and liking "bad boys" which is basically Hell twisting the cisnormative standards of her time in a demonic direction .(That`s also why Alastor`s a radio demon and hates TV because he died in `33 New Orleans).

I'm on board with you trying new things and it's an interesting show to watch alongside with you. I'm desensitized from all of the shit I've seen as well, but sometimes that's a good thing. It lets you see the story underneath and not focus on the shocks.

I personally never had a problem with the pacing, however, I think we can blame Amazon for that.
They only gave Viv 8 episodes to work with.
Which even in anime, a first season is usually at least 12 episodes, or more!

And as far as how they're killed in Hell... normally Sinners can take any amount of punishment and eventually recover (as in, literally blown to pieces levels of damage). They just sort of... regenerate, I guess? They still feel the pain of it, so it's definitely a terrible experience, but they always come back eventually. UNLESS they're killed by a holy weapon blessed by Heaven, in which case their soul is literally erased from existence. So going from being in the afterlife to simply nothing at all.

17:20 Fun fact: Velvette is the youngest of the overlords, hence her cocky attitude. Zestial on the other hand, is the oldest of the Overlords and probably the most powerful aside from Alastor. Alastor is also the only overlord (essentially mob/gang bosses) that does not have territory. He never cared to take territory or get involved in the politics. He is just powerful enough and has enough souls that they count him among the overlords.
Wow that felt, so short! My favourite songs are definitely Adams songs. They are so good! I've listened to them, so many times.
I wish I could have kept more of the music! I had to cut some of my favorite parts, copyright is brutal when it comes to music
Wow! This is unlike anything I've ever seen! The animation is stunning, the characters are so unique, and the humor is dark and twisted. Can't wait to see where this story goes! #HazbinHotel

They released a lyric video of Poison a few days before the show and it was taking over the internet. SO catchy. And then we all got to episode four and felt completely ill. Those momentary looks of fear and desperation he has before he can switch it off and compartmentalize the pain and torture of his life. The bravado he puts on for everyone so no one can see how completely wrecked and torn apart he is inside. Angel is an incredible well written character. He knows he screwed up and that this is his fault. He wants out so badly, but he's also addicted to it. And an important part of it is how they doesn't try to sugar coat it at all. It isn't glamorized, romantacized, blurred out. It's extremely in your face and raw. Disturbing mixed with the incredible music, seeing Angel flip between the two parts of himself.
And to Charlie's credit... she learned the lesson immediately. She sees good in everyone and it sometimes makes her a little naive to the realities around her. Since hell is all she has ever known, so much of this is just normal every day for her. But she caught on very quick when she saw the fear and anger from Angel. And she changed.
The characters in this show are honestly amazing. I love that it has this veneer of wackiness and extremity, but there’s subtle and advanced character building in it.
So the whole show plays with the traditional ideas of heaven and hell to ask some pretty important questions and make you think about concepts of love, forgiveness, redemption, second chances, absolutes. The music is beyond phenomenal and a lot of the cast are from Broadway or are singers. Think of it as a Disney musical set in hell. The creator lives Disney and you will see a ton of referencs and call backs to Disney scenes. The opening number is Beauty and the Beast's opening. The cannibals sharing the intestines is Lady and the Tramp. Episode 5 I believe has a number that is Friend Like Me from Aladdin.

18:53 Sinner demons are humans souls that went to hell. They are essentially immortal unless killed by angelic weapons. If they die otherwise, they respawn or regenerate. It's painful and somewhat slow though. Sinner demons also cannot reporduce. Hellborn demons are just that, born in hell. Each species of hellborn is native to a ring of hell, but they can move about freely while sinners are restricted to the Pride Ring. As far as I know it is not explained where or how Hellborn origionally came about.
A minor spoiler, but Adam is wearing a mask. That’s why he looks different.

I would most definitely recommend watching Helluva Boss and the Pilot of Hazbin before finishing the season.

16:38: Zestial said "T'would be grander folly by far to assume the workings of your mind, Alastor. Thou hath been naught but an enigma since thy manifested in this realm." In other words, he's saying that ever since Alastor first showed up in Hell in the 1930s, nobody hasn't been able to really know what he's about or what his goals are.

So the Lillith thing isn't a twist. It's actually legitimate Hebrew mythology. She is mentioned once in the Bible, but via a translation of her name to English. Isaiah talks about her and she is referred to as the screech owl, or night monster depending on the translation.
I’ve heard of Lilith, I didn’t know about her hooking up with Lucifer, so that was the twist part for me 😊

@@HappyEggz I mean it depends. Her father may be that way but her mother was decidedly not. Whilst all three liked to sing, Lilith`s songs often had a darker tone and in Charlie`s teen years she went through an emo phase due to favoring Lilith over Lucifer.

Love the Labyrinth shirt, BTW. I found this show remarkably good, and the songs have absolutely no right being this good.

One thing to take note is that in Hazbin Hotel it is never stated that Adam also ate the fruit like Eve, so probably really didn't make any "mistake".

I think a lot of people miss the fact that Lucifer is an angel that was cast out of heaven. Charlie is the way she is because she is half angel, half human. She is not a demon. She just so happens to be born in hell.
Lucifer was an angel yes, but I’m not convinced angels are necessarily nice, especially in the Hazbin world 😂
I think the confusion comes from her growing up in this world with all this evil around her. But I’m suspecting now that she was actually not exposed to the worst of Hell.

Why does everyone say she’s half human???? Charlie is NOT half human. Charlie is half angel and half demon. Charlie’s parents had her after they were cast to hell, Lilith was no longer human. Lilith didn’t die and get sent there like the sinners, she was cast there with Lucifer and became a demon. Vivziepop has talked about this several times and people still out here spreading misinformation.

I think the main reason that people are flipping out about this show is that it's talking about biblical subjects in a way that paints heaven in a bad light. I saw 4 vids on RUclips hating on this show for being a devil worshiping propaganda machine, and that was all within the first 2 weeks of this show being out!
Mmm I see. Well, I don’t tend to get into my personal convictions on here but it feels fairly agnostic to me, and I don’t find it offensive. But everyone’s different, of course.
So all the population of hell are "demons", the difference is that "sinners" are human souls and "hell-born" are... well, born there. And the sinners tend to take on the form of something they either hated or something that represents how they died or something they feared, etc...
Some human souls make themselves more powerful in hell by "collecting" other souls, making deals etc... They're the overlords.

I’d say it’s optional, but it is worth the watch. I’ve heard it’s now considered soft-cannon. There are minor tweaks but it is what happens before episode 1, no major changes.
If you die in Hell you are gone forever, you disappear.
Also, the series only had the budget for 8 episodes, so it feels rushed at times.
The songs turn what would be a mediocre adult show to one of my favorite shows of all time and I don't even like musicals

in the original myth its only eve mentioned eating the apple and in the poem paradise lost that the main source of most of what is beleived about adam and eve it says eve when alone was tricked and adam knowing she be condemned for it chooses to eat the apple to remain with his beloved paradise lost presents adam as wise and virtues but his fatal flaw is loving eve more than obeying god

The Adam and Eve telling with Lilith is from the Hebrew bible/mythology
I remember learning a little about Lilith but couldn’t remember her whole story
@@RhetoricalThrill she’s the fallen angel whom first married Adam however it ended badly because she wanted to be on top or at least equal because technically she’s the higher being but Adam didn’t want that. She then later led the other angles (including Lucifer/satan) down to earth where they mated with humans and birthed the nephlem. One example of this is a specific nephlem birthed 3 children one of which is Goliath from David and Goliath.
