- The Cincinnati Zoo & Botanical Garden is the fifth-oldest zoo in the United States, opening in 1875, after the Philadelphia Zoo (1874), the Roger Williams Park Zoo (1872), the Lincoln Park Zoo (1868), and the Central Park Zoo (1864). It is located in the Avondale neighborhood of Cincinnati, Ohio. It originally began with 64.5 acres (26.5 ha) in the middle of the city, but has spread into the neighboring blocks and several reserves in Cincinnati's outer suburbs. It was appointed as a National Historic Landmark in 1987.
The zoo houses over 500 animals and 3,000 plant species. In addition, the zoo also has conducted several breeding programs in its history, and was the first to successfully breed California sea lions. In 1986, the Lindner Center for Conservation and Research of Endangered Wildlife (CREW) was created to further the zoo's goal of conservation.
The zoo is an accredited member of the Association of Zoos and Aquariums (AZA), and a member of the World Association of Zoos and Aquariums (WAZA).
Exhibits:
Reptile House
Visitors to the Reptile House are introduced to a diversity of reptile species, encouraged to face their fears and implored to value reptiles for more than their skins.
Gorilla World
The characteristics we share with other primates are amazing and entreat us to appreciate and conserve these wonderful creatures. Gorilla World invites visitors to explore the world of the endangered gorilla, one of our closest relatives, and asks them to consider how their actions impact the survival of this great primate.
Cat Canyon
In addition to Malayan tigers, Cat Canyon is home to white tigers and snow leopards in immersive exhibits that showcase the majesty and grace of these amazing cats.
Manatee Springs
Otto M. Budig Manatee Springs is a celebration of Florida’s magnificent biodiversity, highlighting the Florida manatee, and a plea for its long-term conservation. Much of Florida’s biodiversity is under siege. The fate of Florida’s wildlife and wild places is in our hands. Each one of us can make a difference.
Kroger Lords of the Arctic
Kroger Lords of the Arctic provides a waterfall, a stream and two pools, including an underwater viewing area, that enrich both the lives of the bears and the experiences of the visitors.
Jungle Trails
The Equator’s year round warm and wet climate supports the tropical rainforest ecosystem. Here a wide variety of interconnected plant and animal species have flourished, giving rise to some of the most biodiverse regions on Earth. Jungle Trails takes visitors on a journey through the rainforests of Asia and Africa to witness just a sampling of the amazing wildlife that lives there.
Gibbon Islands
Gibbons are excellently adapted to life in the rainforest canopy. For example, these lesser apes are built for swinging among the trees with long arms and fingers. Gibbons are famous for their loud musical calls, which can carry over long distances to communicate through the dense foliage.
Spaulding Children’s Zoo
The Children’s Zoo is the perfect place for families to relax, interact with animals and have lots of fun! The exhibit features a petting yard, animal nursery, playground, and a variety of animals including baby miniature cows, llamas and alpacas!
Rhino Reserve
When people think of wildlife, they often think of species from the continents of Africa and Asia such as rhinos, zebras and flamingos. Many have witnessed the grandeur and grace of these animals only on television or in books. Rhino Reserve brings these exotic species to life for those who live in the Western hemisphere.
Africa
Visit the open-vista hoof stock exhibit with ostrich, lesser kudu, pink-backed pelican, and Rüppell’s and lappet-faced vultures, to name a few!
Painted Dog Valley
Painted Dog Valley is home to a pack of African painted dogs. African painted dogs are known for their large, round ears and beautifully “painted”, multi-colored coats.
Hippo Cove
Hippo Cove, home of the World’s most famous hippo, Fiona, was designed to bring visitors #CloseEnoughToCare!
Meerkats
Meerkats are known for their upright posture and the tennis-match-style head turns they use to scan the African desert where they live. They tend to be skittish and often hide in holes to protect themselves from predators and heat.
Wetland Trails & Swan Lake
Wetland Trails and Swan Lake provide visitors with the opportunity to observe many native species such as turtles and waterfowl while learning about the importance of wetlands. Interactive stations along a boardwalk encourage visitors to look through telescopes and press buttons to hear various frog and bird calls.
Elephant Reserve
View Asian Elephants, the largest land animal in Asia.
My grandpa was a landscaper who worked for the zoo in the 60's. He absolutely loved it. :)
That place is truly beautiful. All the landscaping team do a fantastic job of keeping the property looking it's best.
@@TomsRoadTrippin Thank you! He would be so happy to hear that. :)
Honestly this is the most natural looking zoo I’ve seen
The zoo is beautifully maintained. The exhibits are all fantastic, the whole experience was amazing.
@@TomsRoadTrippin Bonobos are only found south of the Congo River and separated from chimps 1.5 million years ago.
@@TomsRoadTrippin maintained as in...... Shooting gorillas?
@@salscandura6059 I'm pretty sure this was my first experience seeing Bonobos. I appreciate the extra information.
I’ve had so many great memories here as a little kid. It honestly is such a great zoo. So much to see.
Just there for the first last week! Honestly one of the best zoos I've been to (Smithsonian zoo and Philly zoos are the only other major zoos I've been to).
I love our Cincinnati Zoo. It’s so Beautiful and every animal we have in it is just as Beautiful. So glad our keepers etc take such good care of those babies in every area. I’d give every one of them a hug and tell them thank you for taking such good care of them(that would be a dream job for me) thank you for showing other people the beauty we have in our Zoo. Please stay safe out there God Bless you and everyone here🙏🏻🙏🏻🙏🏻❤️❤️❤️🤗🤗🤗
You have an absolutely beautiful zoo, I can see why you feel the way you do about it. Thank You for your comment ☺️
Love. Cincinnati. Zoo
I really like this videos when you visite all these incredible zoos , thanks!
Glad you enjoy my videos Aaron, Thank You for watching 😊
I watched about half an hour and never finished. GREAT JOB that first half hour. I'll be back...
Thank You, I try to keep my vids no longer than an hour. That's the reason some of my zoo tours have two parts. I hope you finished the tour.
This zoo is fantastic! I went to the Cincinnati Zoo and Newport Aquarium on Fall Break in 2018.
Yeah, I did both while I was there. This is one of the best landscaped zoo's I've been too.
Can't wait to see revisits to some of these older zoo videos. Due to lockdowns, many of the indoor exhibits and attractions in these videos are closed, and I believe a newer, more comprehensive tour of these zoos would really benefit the channel. 🐸
Starting 2026 I'll start to go back through areas I've been to before. I'll be able to return to some zoos and go to the ones I might have missed
Very interesting tour and education to learn.
Thank You Rodney 😊
Thanks for the vid Tom, these are places I'm sure I wouldn't get to visit physically. Appreciate it!
I try to show everything in my tours as if you we're there in person. Thank You for watching.
Hi Tom!
I'm using my step mom's account to write this.
I would just like to say I'm a huge fan, I only recently discovered your channel and I love your Zoo videos
I watched almost all of them, I just have Zoo Miami left. Also I love zoos, a lot of people think it's prisons for animals but that's not the case
A lot of animals would be extinct without them. If it's a good zoo, it will have large enclosures and happy animals and enrichment and everything that species needs.
This Zoo looks like an awesome Zoo, looking forward to the next Zoo video!
Also, what is your favourite Zoo you have been to so far and your favourite animal?
Have a good day!
Thank You so much 😄 I'm glad you discovered my channel. I have been to so many fantastic zoo's during my travels. I do have a favorite list that I plan to do a video at the end if the year. I always enjoy the Big Cats and Bears.
Zoos started out that way, prisons for animals and the circus animals who could not perform any longer. Sad
@@jaygarit9177 Thankfully, times have changed.
I went there three times on 2018! Twice on spring break, and another time on Memorial Day Weekend 2018.
That's a very fun zoo to visit, I'd love to go back again some day.
Très beau parc zoologique ! Félicitations !
that's a beautiful place and on this year of next summer my family and I were going to Chicago.
This was a gorgeous zoo, lots of wonderful animals and plants to enjoy. You have several great zoo choices in Chicago, I hope you and your family have a nice visit
My favorite zoo been waiting for this video forever thanks for touring the zoo
Such an fantastic zoo, I'm definitely glad I finally got to visit 😃
@@TomsRoadTrippin you should do a ranking of your top 10 zoos that you have traveled too.
Sounds like a good idea, I have more zoo's planned for this year. I'll do something near the end of the year.
Loved your video. I am a Native to Kentucky/Ohio. I love the zoo, but everytime we went, over 1/2 of the exhibit's are closed. :(
Thank You fir watching my tour, I'm glad to hear you enjoyed it. It's a beautiful zoo 😊
Love Cincinnati
Also was the petting zoo and the animal nursery open at the Cincinnati Zoo
Neither were operating when I was there.
Was the train ride operating also was the carousel operating at the Cincinnati Zoo
All rides were closed
42:00
i m pretty sure this is a swan... not a goose.
but i may have wrong. still look like a swan to me :D
lovely zoo, i very love the artic fox, look fluffy and cute :D
Such a beautiful theme around the zoos path and habitat... i guess it help alots to also be a botanical place :D
Thanks for this visit, i really enjoyed it. Many animals and some that i dont see often.
ps: i hate and love snakes. i hate them in their dangerous side (i got bite by a snake when i was young and goes for 3 weeks at hospital, and it was just a european viper, not dangerous but still venimous, make my legs grow alots and couldnt walk as the muscles where all hard stuck), but i love snake because they look very interresting and i think they look kind of cute with their small head and the tiny tongue poping out all the time XD. They also have wonderful colors patterns sometime.
I was mistaken when I said Goose, it was a Swan. Thanks for the correction 😕
This was a very immaculately landscaped zoo. The staff are doing a wonderful job. I love all the colorful flowers, it was nice seeing the bees and butterflies enjoying them too.
I have never been bitten by a 🐍 so I can understand you not liking them as much as me. I have always liked snakes and lizards since I was a kid. Some of the snakes are cute, looks like they're smiling 😃
Did you know that before Roo Valley the old exhibit was Wildlife Canyon
Yeah, they changed quite a bit of the habitats. I really enjoyed all of the updates.
At 42.00 you spot a waterfowl and call it a goose. No this a Trumpeter Swan, an American bird.
Thanks for the correction Gary
Beautiful zoo
It really is, very enjoyable walkthrough
One suggestion. Stop by the zoo medical center. They often have cheetah cubs there. Any singleton gets moved there. They also have the Cincinnati University Ber Cat (Binturong) and other animals undergoing treatment. I doubt she is still alive, but they had a "Mommy Cat" that was teaching wild felines to be cats.
You can see it at 41:00.
Under normal circumstances I would of. As I mentioned in my tour, during my visit some area's we're not available. No animals we're there at the medical center that day. I went by there before filming.
The bird appears in the moment of east african crowned crane is a saddle billed stork a type of african stork
Thank You for that information
I'm planning to go for my birthday, exactly what services are unavailable/closed due to the ongoing pandemic?
The train, carousel and farm animals are off limits. The Insects, Night Animals and Birds buildings are not open. All other areas are available. If you watch my tour I shoe everything.
Where are you going next?
Newport Aquarium is next
OMG I was just there a few weeks ago!
It was a fun experience, vid will be up next Thursday.
i went to this zoo yesterday i just wanna see it again
I can understand that 😃
Also did you know the Cincinnati Zoo used to have free-roaming Peafowl but they got rid of them all
I heard they kept going after people, most likely from idiots feeding them. They can become quite aggressive with food if they are fed human food.
I thought it was because the population got out of control
I. Used. To. Live. In cincinnati
Really good video
Thank You
50:00 that’s not a crane. It is a saddle billed stork
Thanks for the correction, a few of the birds resemble each other 😕
The timber rattlesnake is the one in the ball the copperhead is in the back
Thanks for the correction, it was so crowded. i was trying to get my shots as quickly as possible.
What is the night hunters exhibit was closed?
Some animals are more susceptible to the virus. The area was closed to visitors to protect the animals.
that Makes sense.
Safety First 😊
Could you do the tour of the Virginia zoo
I'll add it to my list, not sure when I'll get a chance.
What indoor exhibits were not open and what was not
Insect World, Night Predators and Birds were closed.
Every thing at the zoo is open now
I hope u had fun
I did very much, Thank You
@@TomsRoadTrippin you're welcome
In Columbus zoo all exhibits r indoor except north America
Yeah?, that tour will come out in a few weeks
@@TomsRoadTrippin ok
Little Fiona is a living miracle
She us a gorgeous hippopotamus, I'm glad she is doing well. I remember how cute she was a calf 🤗
Did you know that they also had Sea Lions before the last one died
I always enjoy seeing Sea Lions and Harbor Seals
I'm wondering if you can do the Columbus Zoo?
I did, the tour vid will be out in 2 weeks
This zoo is amazing I went there on my 14 birthday 🎂 Why don’t yo go to the Columbus Zoo and aquarium next
That vid will be out in 2 weeks
@@TomsRoadTrippin hi today is going to be my first time going with my familly!
@@darkspiritray6640 Very nice 😀 I hope you have a great time at the zoo with your family.
@@TomsRoadTrippin thank u and i got back from mcdonalds
@@TomsRoadTrippin and its the columbus zoo and aquarium
Did you know that they used to have California Sea Lions but they were replaced with African Penguins
Penguin are entertaining to watch, swimming through the water.
@@TomsRoadTrippin agreed
Did you heat they got rid of their Andean Bear exhibit now its going to be the Black Bear exhibit
I'm sure most people won't even notice as they both look similar.
@@TomsRoadTrippin you got a point there
23:50 Tom I believe it’s a long nose gar
Your right, it is. Thanks for the correction
will you go back in 2021 to show us all the exhibits that you did not feature here
Perhaps, if I'm near that area I could go back.
@@TomsRoadTrippin are you near cinncinnati now.
They also used to have Warthogs before the last one died
Oh No, Not Pumba 😩
@@TomsRoadTrippin I bet Timon was heartbroken
Yeah 😭
Can you do festival of lights
I'm not sure when I would be able to be at the zoo for festival of lights. If I am in Ohio during Christmas time then I'll certainly go.
red bellied cooter is my favorite.
I Like Turtles 😁
There's an aye aye at this zoo
If it was there during my visit I most likely saw one.
The aye-ayes were in a building that was closed on his visit - second building in Jungle Trails.
@@nancyf2 That explains that, Thanks
You got the two mixed up
It was so crowded, I mixed them up
At 50.00 you call is bird a crane, when is is in fact a Saddlebilled Stork.
Thanks for pointing that out
Is was a tortoise statue I think
I thought that is what I said or did I say I say turtle?
Tom Say hello to sabu He was a Sumatran elephant He was born 1983 in malaysia
Don't get to see many Sumatran Elephants in zoo's.
What indoor places where closed
Night Hunters and Wings of the World buildings were closed.
Lots of ads on this video for some reason.
RUclips changed their add algorithms, I'm sorry for the extra ads.
I also love snakes 🐍
Snakes are fun to look at, the dangerous ones are behind glass.
You are just like me
🐍 Oh Boy
Tom Say Hello to babu The Rupells Griffin vulture
I've seen vulture up close in the wild before. They can be a bit scary to see multiple vultures together.
I have seen in RUclips zoo tour they have vampire bats in night hunters
Yeah, bummer I couldn't see those exhibits
@@TomsRoadTrippin that's ok u can do a revisit to some zoo u went to in 2020 u can also see the ones u missed
The Cincinnati Zoo just recently got rid of their Polar Bears
Must be a good reason for it. Perhaps to renovate the habitat or expand another.
They actually got located to the Detroit Zoo
32:45, the reason the Saki's face lacked white was because it is a female. Only males have the white on the face to show off for the ladies. 😎
Oh that makes total sense, just like the male birds, the guys need to be colorful and flashy 😊
The copperhead is in the back
Yeppers
The rattlesnake is at the front
Your right
I have never been there
It's a great zoo, at least you've been virtually now 😁
Where’s the crested guineafowls
If they we're there I didn't see them Aidan
I feel sad for them. Those animals need the wide open space. How would u feel being locked up
I do understand your point of view. Zoo's are increasingly becoming more important. As many species have already gone extinct due to humans, zoo's help save others. Unfortunately if poaching continue, pretty soon zoo's will be the only place some animals exist. Thank You for your comment Crystal.
Remember atom Do not call Pumbaa A PIG
That's MR. PIG!!!!!
The most natural zoo is in Miami , it’s just beautiful , and huge
It's very large, so much walking. Have you watched my Zoo Miami tour?
This is where Martha and incas died
Yeah, that was really sad
Martha was a passenger pigeon and incas was a Carolina parakeet
2 whole minutes at the beginning just talking about nothing of interest, nothing of the zoo itself, but about your dang hat.
Talking about a hat I get at every place I visit has become a sort of ritual I have. Your the only person who has ever complained about my intro. Did you at least watch the rest of the tour?
@@TomsRoadTrippin no i could not get past the intro. I may come back later and watcch the rest of the tour, I'll just skip the intro. Sorry, I didn't think of that, but I haven't slept in two days, two nights. :/
I appreciate your reply, I do hope you watch the tour. I try my best to show everything the zoo has to offer. I hope you we're able to get some decent rest.
Great news Atlanta zoo final have a white rhinoceros
Very nice, I'm glad they repurposed the old elephant habitat.
2016 a kid fell into the gorilla enclosure and they had to shoot the Gorilla
Shooting kids is never a acceptable outcome
Tom's Road Trippin I meant the gorilla
That was a real shame, the day after his 17th Birthday too 😢
Required or not, you should still wear a mask.😷 Not all that bad.... I wear one 8-11 hours a day...think of other people!!
I wear a face mask 9 hours a day at work. At the zoo there weren't a lot of people that day. I wore my mask anytime I was near other people. For the majority of the day I wasn't around others.
This is the zoo where they murdered harambe for no reason?
Sadly Yes 😢
One word of advice: learn how to pronounce things correctly. Otherwise you are perpetuating misinformation. From a retired zoo docent.
16:20 *Eurasian* - Europe + Asian = Eur-asian. Sounds like "you're Asian"
33:34 *bonobo* - bah-NO-bo, rather than banna-bo.
33:53 *colobus* - not Columbus. sounds more like cola-bus.
I appreciate your comment, I realize I may mispronounce things occasionally. Until someone points it out, I then say it correctly.
