We are told in the Quran that the Islamic deity prays for his followers, especially Muhammad:
They are those on whom are the prayers (salawatun) from their Lord and mercy (rahmatun), and it is they who are the guided-ones. S. 2:157
He it is who prays (yusallee) for you and His angels too, to bring you forth out of the darkness into the light, for He is merciful to the believers. S. 33:43 Palmer

Thash'hud wz actually a conversation between Allah (Swt) & Prophet Muhammed(pbuh) during Mi'raj night, so it's Allah saying Salam to Muhammed (pbuh). All the Muslims has to recite the same as a part of worship to Allah in their Salah, dat's it.

i just wanted to share the Gospel that all men need, the Bible says all have sinned and fallen short of the glory of God (Romans 3:23) this means we all deserve death and separation from a perfect and holy God. But God did not leave us for dead, He sent His only begotten Son to die in yours and my place, so that anyone who believes in Him and repents of sin will be saved from separation from God, and have eternal life! I urge you please put your faith in Jesus Christ and follow Him, He promises to save all who cry out to Him and have a humble heart. We arent guaranteed another day so we must seek Him today while He may be found.

Narrated Ibn Mas`ud: Allah's Apostle taught me the Tashah-hud as he taught me a Sura from the Qur'an, while my hand was between his hands. (Tashah-hud was) all the best compliments and the prayers and the good things are for Allah. Peace and Allah's Mercy and Blessings be on you, O Prophet! Peace be on us and on the pious slaves of Allah, I testify that none has the right to be worshipped but Allah, and I also testify that Muhammad is Allah's slave and His Apostle. (We used to recite this in the prayer) during the lifetime of the Prophet , but when he had died, we used to say, Peace be on the Prophet.

And the most important thing to remember is that "tashahhud" is the conversation between Allah and the Prophet Muhammad Sallallahu alaihi wasallam when they met on Shab-e-meraj. When Prophet Sallallahu alaihi wasallam didn't know how to greet Allah, as salam was not something to be said to the creator. Prophet Muhammad Sallallahu alaihi wa alihi wasallm started with "attahiyyat.. And got a reply from Allah as a continuation of it "assalamualaika ayyuhannibiyu.. " and then our beloved Muhammad sallallahu alaihi wasallam replied with "ashhadu allailaha illa Allahu....... ". So this is it we recite it from that day in our salah. The way he interpret it was obviously, totally wrong cuz indeed Quran is a revelation from god Allah almighty himself He hasn't used any third or second-person pronouns when He has commanded us to do anything or when He told us the incident of any of the prophets or ppl before us He has used "I" for it. So when we recite those ayah it doesn't mean that we became the one who has done all those things such as in the Quran when Allah says "I have created you...... " when we recite it, it doesn't mean that its me now who has created the mankind. Of course its a book by God and not by any person so we are not supposed to play with it or edit it the way ots convenient for us.
