Hi. Try spraying a little silicon lubricant in the track runners and a small amount of silicon grease on the pvc driving cogs to reduce the friction on the mechanism and noise. Enjoyed that one too!
Looks good. I realise this would mean changing what you've already done... but to avoid warping of joints in the card in future, what not try replacing it with (or laying over the top) a roll of lining wall paper. You might get away with a single sheet covering the lot. I'd at least seal it with matt varnish.
Sorry - forgot to add that you can get the wheels turning by doing away with the sliders and attaching NeoDymuim magnets directly to the chassis but not touching the roadbed. This may mean drilling a small cavity into the chassis to get the clearance however the magnets will still. pick up the track magnets and the the vehicle wheels will be the only thing touching the roadbed. Clyde MagnorailOz
All my vehicles from Lego down to Z scale all work with magnets placed directly on the chassis. Any of my recent Crater lake, Canberra or Diamond valley exhibitions or Lego videos show vehicles, boats etc in action with no sliders. - MagnorailOz
That's what I did, though not a village. I had a row of railway arches with no trans, then a friend said "I was round at your house and saw you train set" there were no trains but I then installed them it's a lot to look at! Mine's in OO!
Good video. Having watched others working with this system, the problem is usually down to the fact that a second motor is required to move the track especially if a max amount of track has been used.
Such a fascinating video!! Your presentation makes a highly-technical project understandable and riveting to watch. You have excellent N-scale engineering skills and have given me ideas for my own layout. Absolutely gobsmakingly cool!! 👍

Well impressed with your video on magna rail. Have never seen anyone doing it with N before. Like the way you show the snags and how you deal with them. Also like the way you get to the point. Many videos spend ages not doing so. I would like to see some of my Oxford vehicles animated. Have to build a new layout though.
A fascinating video that I watched to the end. I think might have bought a roll of paper rather than try to stick down individual sheets. It occurs to me you could use this system to create a ghost train since the wheels would not need to use their flanges on the corners. With a train, there would be a lot less friction. Thanks for uploading.
@@greatdeltan6556 I think it doesn't need to be a chain - a belt would do. Maybe you should look in Halford's? Maybe if you get a tube of two-part adhesive, such as Araldite, also available in Halfords, and glue some neodymium magnets to it? I think it needs a mains-powered motor, as would be to found in an old record player. If neodymium magnets are used, then the surface of the road need not be paper - you could use thin plywood, obtainable from a Doll's House supplier. Have fun.
In my experience with these magnorail systems, it’s best to use plastic card, as opposed to cardboard. This lessens surface resistance both against the track and above as well. You seem to have ironed things out, but you may want to consider this if you decide to re do the system at some point.
Fantastic to see Mahnorail at work. Perhaps more police cars need to be added (just parked) to monitor traffic on this road. What are the odds of the RAC Transit van either stalling or being disabled, rear-ended by a drunken black cab driver, only to be sandwiched by a smart Jaguar XF likely on his way to the office? Calamity!
I enjoyed watching the video and some very good info in it, but please slow down the camera movement, or switch it off and back on when you get to the next item. Thank you.
I think I would have used some silicone spray like the Flomasta variety available from Screwfix in the track and on the sliders. This would greatly reduce the friction and help with smooth running.
Nice video, You Tube threw another one into my options this morning and had a quick look at that magnorail set. From John's miniatures. he was having the same problem as you, the track jerking. He was also using photo paper. He ripped it up used polycarbonate and hasn't had any issues. Might be worth a look. Admittedly it's in OO but he only has an ambulance and a bicycle on his track. He was still getting the jerking with that. The video was from a couple of years ago so maybe drop him a line as one you tuber to another to see if the problems really went away.
I used .4 mm plastic, never really a problem, but if you load it up or cause some kind of inbalance in the system it can jerk, but 6 years later I've mastered the art, make all vehicles as lightweight as possible!
if you glued the sliders to the vehicles would you get a bit of an air gap so less friction? or glue stronger magnets in the cars and do away with the sliders.
Nice video. Maybe it'll get better as it runs in more and the magnets/ sliders smooth the road surface a bit more. Hopefully you'll get to run more cars atb Andy
Could the lower voltage be the cause of the “jumpyness” of the vehicles? One thing I’m not a fan of is how noisy magma rail is. I’m adapting a different design. Where the track and roadway is one piece. It’s inverted as compared to mag rail. I’ve had pretty good luck with tiny magnets in front area of car. My issue is getting a quality car with rotating wheels in N scale

Hi Dan Taxi on the Magnorail: Could you not put a little spacer between the carrier and the taxi to lift the number plate above the card join? I understand the friction between the roadway and the sliders, but would a little lubricant (Vaseline, etc.) on the motors/track help?
Has anyone tried sheets of 300 grade sandpaper instead of regular paper for the road surface. It would give some friction to keep the wheels turning, the colour and texture match a tarmac roadway and if sections need to be taken out/replaced, visually that would replicate the look of a patched up road.

Great result and look forward to your next update. 👍
