Pre Big Bang I got my Hero to 167. Class was such shit and I always hoped it would've been buffed. I remember how quick things went once I got Brandish.
Hot diggity nice job on this video man, 11/10 loved the quality of coverage on every aspect of this class, I started hero as soon as they buffed it last year and it was amazing feeling the balance of mobbing vs. bossing.
Why everyone plays hero? Because 15+ years ago, I saw a video of 4th job hero fighting horntail and how much damage they did and I thought that was swell. Also the spinny circles are neat.
Having tried it, I personally feel like in the early game you can tackle more bosses with paladin. You certainly have less damage, and I hate that at level 217 I can't even oneshot most mobs in vj, but with how long certain boss fights take at low stats, being near unkillable helps so so much. You can ignore a lot of mechanics, chaos von bon and chaos pierre basically can't kill you unless you basically try to make it happen, while with chaos queen you really only need to worry about the mirror, damage reflect, undead and the succ. The burn is a non factor and you can tank the breath no problem, the hearts won't be able to kill you either, the scratches are only annoying when they seal your skills. Chaos vellum... the only thing you can't really ignore is the breath. Of course, with cvel low damage means you may just run out of time, while with pierre you sadly lack the burst to avoid the split, which actually makes it the hardest to kill of the four. Hero needs to deal with all those mechs normally, which will require a decent bit of extra stats to pull off unless you're a god at those bosses.
while ive been enjoying the why everyone plays or why no one plays series i feel like both the best and worst of classes are p commonly talked about within the community. i think itd be more interesting to go over some middle of the pack classes and highlight what they do well and whats holding them back. maybe like a “why more people should play” type beat?
here's a crazy reason why i played a Hero: when i was a Bishop i watched in envy when i saw the coma skill working on the goby fish somewhere in aqua road. how they all came bursting out of the house and just KO'd immediately in a neat stack of $. as a Bishop that played a supporting role back before or right after Big Bang, that kind of attacking power made me quit Bishop and start a Hero. also the amount of HP. it was such a contrast to a mage. my second favourite class was the Battle Mage when it first came out, because it had both support skills, survivability and power. it was the class that i got furthest, to 187 iirc, back then when MapleStory was a painful grind and 200 was as far as you could go. oh, and the ribgol sword was sweet.
My very first character in Maplestory was a Hero. He's sitting abandoned at level 132 in Scania right now (leveling back then was hard, okay!?), but I'm planning on training up a new one in Reboot.
I've never played Hero when it was in a good shape. It was my first character when GMS launched and I played until some time after third job released. When crusader came out I was already around level 90. Then I quit for a while and came back after 4th job released and was about 130. it's kinda funny to think what used to take days and weeks can be done in an afternoon now leveling wise, but also just that the class has finally caught up with most others. Nobody partied at coolies and a warrior would just get KS'd out, nobody wanted a crusader in Ludi since DKs had hyper body. I hear we were great in the big foot era but I didn't play then. Haven't touched the game in like 8 years but I've been tempted to fuck around for a little bit lately
@@Macaltar savior gives the cardinal burst and deluge skill an additional line of damage and they get a new skill that lets them lock the type of curse they’re using. I believe they also get slight damage buffs elsewhere
So in other words: good at mobbing, great at bossing, very easy to play. No wonder it's so popular. :D Before the Red update, what balanced Hero was its mobbing. It was just awful. Now they fixed that, and we have results right here. (Thank god they didn't keep unlimited dash, that would be insane.) By the way, why there is an option to play both swords and axe for this class? If I understand correctly, an axe gets better bonuses, so why would you want to use swords on Hero?
@@coppersan Yeah, but that's why it's... well, I don't want to say, useless. After all, it's an additional option, and that's always nice. But unnecessary? Who doesn't want to deal more damage? :D
Lots of hero’s use swords for two reasons. First, people is like the look. The old raging bow had a different animation for an axe and it did not look very good. Second, if you had a job change coin, you can switch to paladin and if you have a sword you don’t need to make a new weapon. I believe this is the last job change coin, and now both animations are the same, so most players are taking axes now unless you really like the sword look.
242 f2p Hero main here; I literally never thought to use Puncture for mobbing, it feels so much slower for me. I usually set down my sword since it one shots, and I'm currently working my nodes so that Beam Blade can one shot, as it feels really nice to use it to smack stuff from really far away. lol
@@Steelilbies Interesting. It does seem like its useful in very large maps that seem to be getting more common. 50% normal monster bonus is good too, though I hate that I can't really double jump > puncture, then immediately double jump again, feels slightly clunky for my hands.
Also a hero main, I never use puncture for mobbing. While it does have a bigger hitbox, raging blow is in your trio so at high level maps often raging blow will one shot where puncture does not. Personally I use puncture only as a reach skill for extra high platforms, assuming it one shots.
I haven’t played maple in years but I am pleased to hear my main class is viable now… I would love to go back but I recently saw those state of GMS vids 😬😬😬
Honestly now is a great time to come back. Don’t let those vids turn you off. The game is in an amazing state right now and the anniversary event is going on which can get you a bunch of free gear for a new character! Give it a shot

I played hero from pre-big bang to just before the red update before I quit, coming back to hero after not doing any research on their development, nexon did right by giving hero the remake it desperately needed, combo attack and brandish now being 2nd job skills when it was 3rd and 4th respectively was a nightmare to grind using the first job att for 110 levels
