I love to see you find a deal on something you really want, it's kinda like living vicariously through you on these videos, you're living the life I would absolutely love to live but it just didn't work out for me, I had a heart attack in 2010 I was allowed to drive over the read 3 more year's and I bought my place approximately 7 months before the DOT said I couldn't work anymore I had my land my house and even bought a little gasoline tractor to bush hog my property but lost everything, I was getting started but it just wasn't in the cards for me,I blame myself I believe I started to late in my life so watching your videos really gives me a boost my friend and I like seeing somebody at least doing what they love, hope you keep finding everything you want my friend good luck and be careful out there.
This sure brings back memories. I put a lot of hours on our 4166. It was our main tractor. I loved it because it was our first 4 wheel drive so it meant no more using the brakes to turn. It was also our first & only tractor with air conditioning. Ours was sold in the mid 90's when we rented our land out.
It's nice seeing that older iron still working. When I was a kid growing up on my parents dairy farm here in upstate ny we had a massy 1105. It was a great dependable tractor but the only thing I could never figure out was why the multi power would not engine break in low..always seemed odd why massy did that. I enjoy your videos keep it up!
Looking for electric in a battery sitting ten plus years is the sign of a true optimist. If I had one work after sitting so long, I'd know it was the afterlife!
Looking forward to seeing the restoration series on this cool tractor. I know you like to paint them but I think a good wash and wax, she’ll buff right out.
great vid glad the old girls going to a good home i love the look of tractors that have the same size wheels front and rear don't know why they just look more imposing
Thats a beautiful old truck, i have an 86 chevy 3/4 ton 4x4 that needs a new motor but almost no rust on it at all, only one cab corner starting to rust out, frame still has original paint on it, have to restore the old girl so it doesn’t just sit around and rot
Nice find! Ive got one of those old girls definitely a different animal. I did a cab delete on mine. Gets a bit warm in the box. Got few videos of it running on my channel if your interested. Timer farms. Looking forward to the restoration you do.
We had a 1979 4186 and we traded it on a 1973 Turd Ferguson b/c it needed new shoes and even back in 95 those fatties weren’t cheap. We could pull a lot more with Turd but Dad always regretted not keeping the 4186. As mentioned here, baby the steering. I kept it in two wheel steer most of the time b/c if you backed up with it in 4-wheel steer while in 4-wheel drive you were gonna sheer some pins. That being said it would not make a good grain cart puller which is what a lot of guys are using the old 4-wheelers for. What it is great at is straight up working ground. The fatties make it float and barely leaves a footprint. A 20 ft. Land Plane or a 22ft harrow-gator or cultimulcher would be real nice behind it. The 436 just showed you how lovey dovey it is. I ran a 4 shank blue jet ripper with it like a dream. If you use a guidance system you can make perfect lands and keep it in two wheel steer.
Hey , To get to the starter you need to remove the access panel where your feet are. Clean GUNK out the fuel tank and lines YA GOT A RUNNER ! Great video Thanks
i would have drained the fuel tank for a half minute before adding fuel or starting it. water could be expensive. I see a walmart special guage cluster, that might be part of your cab electrical problems... man i was excited at that start up! worse condition tractors have had money dumped into them to make run. seems like the junk yards are full of nicer tractors than the project tractors... 😊
Hallo JT! Fantastic sound in that engine, and it started surprisingly easy (based on what I saw in this video). I am impressed. Looking forward to next video. 😊
We had a couple of them. The IH tractors don't have crab steer like the Case tractors. The lever for 2 or 4 wheel steer is supposed to lock the rear wheels straight in 2 wheel steer. 4 steer just allows for a tighter turn radius as both axles are steering.
Right! I wasn’t sure at first if this would crab steer, and it’s good enough for me lol. This one is gonna crab walk home the way it’s messed up currently 😆
Be prepared for oil leaks 😂 also the rear steer will break in a certain way and wreck some of the linkage. When that happened I just took the rear steer out, all it had to do is push snow for us so it worked. Ours is a 4100 though.

I’m a huge IH/Versatile fan, but I think Case got their 1470TK a little better. The DT436 is a great engine. Keep the coolant filters changed regularly.
I have not run the IH version but I have ran the Case rigid frame version. Personally I love them as much as the articulated tractors I have. Only thing I will say if the steering is setup like a Case remember the steering can have a mind of it'd own and change directions on its own. I know a guy that bought a Case and less than a month traded it in on new John Deere 8960. The case scared him when he was driving it down the road and it took a sudden turn for the ditch. I never experienced the issue on the 2670 I ran but i know others who have.
That would usually be due to a bad steering sensor on the axle ends or the wiring in between. It would misread the angle and try to correct it... incorrectly.... Dad had to replace one on the 4690 IIRC.
One thing I will say is that Rockwell axle parts for that era are pretty hard to find. Granted those are steerable, but I’d say a lot of parts interchange. The Steiger guys with series 1s are learning that the hard way

Look at the bolt patterns and the hubs. And I said series 1 Steigers. That changed pretty quick once they found out that the Rockwells sucked.

That is an awesome find and sounds like it wants to still work. Only thing I don't like about the 4166 is the crab steer. We had a Case 4490 back in the day which is basically the same platform as the 4166. Going from conventional articulated to crab, just never set in with me.
