First new round I'm 100% stoked about. Love the 7mmmag but this is just the next level. Everything from the tight bore to the velocity and the BC make this a perfect flat country round. Actually, this is perfect for the mountains too.
Have a custom borden rifle being built in 7 prc. Can't wait till it's done this coming summer. Need primers though. Just finally found some brass.

If you like these new magnums and the AR 10 you can do your own AR 10 build with the 7 mm WSM.
I build all of the WSM cartridges on the AR 10 or I like to give info how someone can build their own where to buy the parts and gunsmith referral.
I use Pac Nor super match barrels so I am getting the best bolt action accuracy from my AR 10s.
If you are in a state where 80% lowers you can use to build a finished AR 10 on this is the best way to build you own.

Love reloading for my 6.5 & 7prc both hammered Grizzlies , Caribou up here in Alaska and long distance shots on Axis deer in Hawaii.
Great video. I’ll start by saying I love my 7prc. Proof elevation 24” barrel.
It’s a tack driver with the factory eldx. And this year I’ve taken two black bears a caribou a Siberian roe deer and a mid Asian ibex.
BUT. !!! it is definitely not doing 3000fps

My friend has a 26” proof barrel and is getting 2900 ish. Mine is average of 2844. From my 24”

That 24 inch barrel is not doing that cartridge and good.
I build and sell AR 10 uppers in all of the WSM magnum cartridges and in odd ball to wildcat cartridges.
My own AR 10 I hunt with I chambered in 375-300 WSM from a Pac Nor super match 25.5 inch barrel shoots 300 grain bullets at 2600 FPS so you got something really wrong going on when a 7 mm with that much powder is that slow.
My own Tikka T3 ultra-light in 7 mm Rem mag all the reloads I do for it are in the 3000 FPS range.

@@theprfesssor If you are asking what I am using in Alaska or in the Pacific NW for Roosevelt Elk I shoot Barns TSX - TTSX - LRX and I have in 24 Cal - 7mm - 30 cal - 338 - 375 Cal in the very old original Nosler Partitions made of Brons & Zine alloy which made Nosler famous.
I have loaded for the AR 10 in 375 - 300 WSM old Bronz -Zinc Nosler partitions in 300 grains using 65 grains of 4064 powder.
For the 375 - 300 WSM for the Barns TSX 235 grain I have loaded 70 Grains of 4064 powder.
I also have loader the old Nosler Partitions in 260 grains for the 375 - 300 WSM using 68 grains of 4064 powder.
For just shooting the 375 -300 WSM I am using PPU 300 grain 375s and Speer 270 grains 375 bullets for getting info on how the gun shots for different ranges.
There is allot of info on the 375 WSM or also called 375 - 300 WSM on the internet and the chamber reamer came from Pacific Tool & gauge the barrel is a Pac Nor supper match SS barrel using a Bat Machine barrel extension and metal work was done by Mark Manson in Arizona.
Reloading dies are by Redding dies.
The WSM magnum AR 10 bolt is by KAK Industries .

Excellent overview once again Todd. I actually am thinking hard about selling my Savage M110 Long Range Hunter in 300 WSM and getting the M110 Ultralight LH in either 7 PRC or stay with the 300 WSM.
I was going to mention that you forgot about the Outfitter line of ammo with the 160 grain CX, but you got it in the end.
You wouldn’t be able to swap a short action rifle barrel for 7 PRC, long action you can.
Don't let all of this promotional hype to sell guns get to your head.
I am now 63 years old then from childhood my elders used 7 mm Rem mags here in NW Oregon to hunt Roosevelt Elk and we always had dead Elk from shots over the massive coastal canyons.
We even used reloads with 150 grain bullets until the Barns x and TSX bullets came out then all the 7 mm Rem mag loads have 150 grain Barns TTSX or TSX bullets that are extremely affective in killing these Hugh Roosevelt Elk.
I even own out of the large collection of rifles I own a Tikka T3 ultra-light in 7 mm Rem mag with 5 Roosevelt Elk kills to this rifle all shooting Barns TTSX 150 grain bullets.
This Tikka T3 in 7 mm Rem mag shoots 175 grain bullets to a T of precise accuracy but that heavy of Bullet isn't needed, every Elk has dies in less than 30 of where shot and all of the Barns TTSX bullet passed on through the Elk every to 500 yards proving how deadly affective Barns bullets are.
What also is a benefit to owning and reloading for the 7 Rem mag you can use all belted magnum brass to convert to 7 mm Rem mag ammo and the 7 mm PRC you are screwed with one casing.
When I find 300 Win mag spent brass it gets converted to 7 mm Rem mag brass.
The 7 PRC is a necked down(Just a bit longer) WSM in std long action, almost identical to the 7 WSM. Take look a the Nosler load data Pics. I Print them for comparison when on a project. If you have a controlled round action you could fire 7WSM in a 7PRC. The 6.8 W again almost identical to 270WSM. The industry is not building any WSM because of a patent infringement. So they came up with the Rem SAUM and 7PRC and the 6.8 W to substitute them. Havn't seen a substitute for the 300WSM(Bit shorter SAUM). Mind boggling al these new cartridges. Good but not much better than the old ones. Guess will stick to the 7RM in a bit longer Mag Action 3.8" OAL) and seat out long bullets👍 Taking a very hard look at the 110 Ultra light but in 28 Nos. The pics I have seen of the magazine show a 1/4" of extra space ahead of the bullet tip. So I guess it's a 3.8" action/Magazine. Could eventually rebarrel for 7RM because ammo availability🤣Not likelly

I hunt with an AR 10 I've done in 375-300 WSM.
@@WillyK51 If you want a cartridge in the 7 mm magnum range then consider it in the AR 10 because myself and other gun builders do AR 10s in all of the WSM cartridges and I also do AR 10 uppers for sale in all WSM cartridges + 6.8 Western and odd for AR 10 in cartridges like 250 Savage - 257 Roberts - 6mm Rem - 6.5x50 Jap - 6mm - 284 win - 6.5-284 Norma - 375-300 WSM and basically any cartridges that fit into the AR 10 magazine I can build the AR 10 uppers for them.
Option 2 is feel free to ask how you can build your own AR 10 on these magnums or odd and stander cartridges because I don't mind helping gun nuts who like to do their own guns or getting started building their own guns get the right parts and where to look for parts and High reliable gunsmith referral.

On my Instagram account photos @ dwanyeb1959 I have photos of 3 of my own AR 10s in left to right are 375-300 WSM - 6mm-284 win -- 6.5-284 Norma and shows magazines loaded with the 3 types of cartridges to basically disprove the liars that say the AR 10 can't be made to fire the WSM cartridges or the other 2 cartridge seen in the photos.
Hmm, I have a 26” barrel in my 7prc and the factory 175 gr eld-x precision hunter ammo had an average speed of 2930 fps. That’s across 4 boxes. I’ve reloaded the 80 spent cases and shot those and shot a fifth box of factory precision hunter, and still in that low 2900’s with a 26” proof barrel. My hand loads are just under 3100 fps with both retumbo and h1000 using a 175 ablr and fed 215 primers. I’ve found that like my 300 wsm, the 7prc seems to have long accuracy nodes in charge weights.
Yep u will not get 3,000 with the factory Hornaday loads 2,850 what I got with a 24 inch federal and hand loads will hit 3k if not over so my question is why does Hornady load these on the low side then advertise a velocity that isn't going to happen
@@Sakura_Kawaii_Aesthetic I wondered if they weren’t using a temp sensitive powder, that got them those speeds in the summer, as i chronod the rounds in 35-45 degree weather. Maybe something like RL25? Or N560? But that’s still quite the big difference in velocity, as they advertised the 3k with a 24” barrel and im shooting a 26”. I did find a node at 3040fps with retumbo and 175 gr. ablr. Also 3020 fps with H-1000. All rounded primers with no creators and virgin Adg brass.
I wish you would have shown range results of accuracy and velocity like you usually do...
I’m getting 2800fps with a 22’’ barrel, there is no way they are hitting 3000 fps. It is my new favorite rifle with little recoil and amazing accuracy but would take a 26’’ barrel to come close to the 3000 fps. Wish they would be honest about that.

Glad someone mentioned the correct way to pronounce 7mm. It’s flubs like this on RUclips that make me question how much an expert they really are. Already have a 7mm PRC-recommend that you get a muzzle device-cuts down a substantial amount of recoil

Zero feeding issues. That goes for all of the PRCs I've shot and hunted with.
Will the new barrel fit onto a 308 action?
No, 7prc requires a long action and magnum bolt face(.540). 308s are short action and standard bolt face (.470)
So far I've taken mule deer with 3 different eldx bullets from 40yds to 400 yds. It has worked very well everytime. I will say shot placement inside of 200 yards is important. I would not recommend a direct shoulder blade shot at very close distance. This goes for any cup and core non-bonded bullet.
The bullet is softer than and standard cup amd core.
The federal Terminal ascent is what the the ELDX was advertised to be.
@joshsinglefooter I tried the terminal ascent ammunition in two different rifles and could not get acceptable accuracy for shooting at game past 150yrd. May have just been the two rifles didn't like the bullet. Both were 300 win mags with fast twist barrels. The eldx bullets may have a softer lead core, but they still resulted in very dead animals. We just used eldx bullets again this year and had great results. Complete shoulder pass through on a mature muley buck at 400yds with a .270.
@fattigla oh ok. Check your seating depth and your cartridge overall length on those. If one is off federal will send you a fresh box.

Im getting 2850 out of my custom built it has a 24 inch carbon proof research berrel im not sure if is just mine but i did not see no 3000 with the 175s
Look at the real gunsmiths channel he can give you why you aren't getting what you want. He's been making great rifles for decades.

@@edgarperez6766 I am in Montana at high elevation so my air is a little thinner which means bullets fly a little faster. If you are at sea level that would slow you down a bit, but probably not 100 fps. Some people say that a barrel will be a little slower before it is broken in. I haven't owned my chronograph for long enough to see any changes from new to broken in. Have you fired over 50 rounds?

Yeah I just got one built and mine is shooting 2850 to 2860 out of a 24 inch berrel I was thinking 3000 fps until I put in on the magnetospeed so 2860 is just about the right number
2844 is my average. proof 24” No one is getting 3000 from factory I know

7 mm prc barrel life is around maybe 1500 rounds. Does some havr actual daza on that. I think because morst channels dont talk about it - is a sign.

I’ve seen lots of testing chrono of the ammo and it was below 2900, you saying you got 3000 is just bs unless you show it. Marketing and propaganda.
my old 280 ai blows the 7 prc away, but I do like the 7 prc with accubond bullets. the eld x is a target bullet design= long range (over 700 yard) = crappy hunting bullet !
You guys make it sound like velocity isnt important, you need velocity if your going to shoot long ranges plus that factory ammo isnt shooting anywhere near 3000 i tried it today i figured i bought a slow bunch of bullets so i bought a different lot and both were 150fps slower in a 24inch
Something doesn't add up here. 3000 ft/sec out of a 22" barrel using precision hunter 175 eldx factory ammo? In doing research on youtube and other for determining if I want to upgrade my 7 mag to a PRC, almost everyone is getting around 2800 ft/sec. See the backfire video, who tee who, etc... as examples. That changes everything ballistics wise. At that velocity, its about equal to the 7 mag 162 eldx energy wise. Hornady seems to be fudging the numbers a bit. That makes me question their reported BC numbers as well. I want it to be true, because at 3000 ft/sec the long range capabilties are amazing. Doesn't seem to be the case though.
Who cares. Other manufacturers make 7mm prc and get their advertised numbers
@@HazardousRob There's currently only one high BC hunting bullet I'm aware of for the 7PRC, the 175 hornady eldx, right? I guess federal now loads that one, but that's about it. Without the high BC bullet running around 3000 fps, its really just a 7mm mag or 6.8 western. Its competition the 6.8 western that's my guess why hornady refuses to correct their advertised velocities. I'm surprised they are getting away with it.
The 7prc is awesome. The 6.8 western does an equally awesome job of capturing all the elements of a great hunting cartridge and needs the support of hunters and target shooters alike. The 6.8 western has less recoil than the 7prc and is actually more efficient than the prc cartridges. I own both and think both are a testament to advanced hunting/shooting technology but Hornady needs to stop being a California influenced company and support the 6.8 western also!!!!
The 6.8 doesn’t have support from the guys who made it. Browning recently came out with .270 Win with fast twist barrels. That makes them much closer to 6.8 performance and are now directly competing with their own invention
Idk about awesome it’s just a milder 7 mag. It’s honestly for people who hate belts. A handload 7 rem mag that headspace’s off the shoulder and using Berger bullets it’s untouchable.
The vast majority of shooters are shooting factory ammo out of a factory rifle. Sure a juiced up 7 rem mag can do all the things that a PRC can do but the PRC does it with factory ammo out of factory rifles. That the entire point of why it was developed.

Mine shoots factory 175’s at 2935 out of a 22” barrel. I’m less than 100 rounds in so it could even speed up a little

I'm sorry, but this is hype marketing bs.
New guns are fun, but when ammo boxes are getting more and more expensive, the older cartridges are looking better. Just as example, the 7prc is 90 dollars a box for federal terminal ascent. 7mm rem mag is available for around 50-60 depending on the store. 270 is around 45 dollars for the same cartridge.
Also the part about "i don't need to figure out what ammo works best with my gun, i just use Hornaday" is so very suspect when the eldx is an inconsistent and questionable bullet for hunting.
Also, a lot of companies are offering faster twist barrels for all the old cartridges. Also, a lot of the older guns come with faster twists like the remington 700 bdl having a 1:9 vs a 1:10.
The 7prc is probably very good for competition target shooting and professionals. If you have the funds, and don't have a 7mm gun, have at it.
With ascending prices the gun you have that you invested into that you have ammo for is the one you should keep shooting. Take the time to learn it, work on it and improve it and your shooting. You will reap more benefits from this than just expecting the prc's to kill, skin and quarter the animal for you.
pretty heavy promotional hipe ! I do like the 7 prc easy to hand load ya da ya da, but BUT having hunted all over the world , (65 years hunting experience) the prc calibers will not replace the rem 7 mag and the 300 win mag period ! I target shoot 6.5 need more, and even hunt with the 7 prc , great products, but 300 win mag and 7 rem mag are just as accurate and even more performance
I think there’s a reason you didn’t show the chronograph results… No one believes you took off-the-shelf ammo and got 3000fps. Maybe Hornady gave you special ammo.

Precision Hunter ammo out of my 6.5 creedmoor (sig cross) shoots a 7” group at 280 yards. Not nearly impressive as what your seeing.
My Precision Hunter ammo is holding a .4 MOA group consistently out of my 6.5 PRC (1.2” @ 300 yards). Your rifle just might not like that particular load. That, or your rifle might be, inherently, inaccurate.
@@boydeallen3306 shoots that ammo at 3/4” group at 100 yards, 7” at 280 yards. This is the same out of my friends identical Sig Cross with Precision Hunter ammo. We tried Barnes ammo and it was a bit better of holding group size down range.
@@LSC2001 if you’re holding 3/4 @ 100, then the 7” @ 280 is not the rifle, but the shooter-3/4 MOA is just over 2” @280.
Performance is measured by speed and down range energy. This thing does nothing the 28 Nosler, or even a hand loaded .270. The bullets are simply repackaged target bullets. Thanks, but the pre-64 Model 70 just keeps putting game in the truck, so no need for shiny new, overmarketed crap.

I make my own ammo - so "Hornaday" can do whatever they want. I like the 7mm PRC spec, and I will make my own ammo for it /shrug.

I don't think Steve is implying that at all, he's simply pointing out the modern design improvements of cartridges like the Creedmoors and PRCs
If you went to a gun store and bought 2 identical rifles, one in creedmoor and one in swede, there’s almost no chance that the swede would group as tight as the creed.
Because of tighter tolerances, you need a custom rifle and hand loads to match the accuracy of modern cartridges.

So far I’ve loaded both 7 “millimeter” -08 REMs and 7 “em em” -08 REMs in my 7mm-08 REM and I haven’t even had a single misfire and last I checked the earth was still spinning so that the sun rises in the east and sets in the west…idk maybe I’m just lucky 🤷🏼♂️

A 13 minute infomercial for Hornady. I don't believe the 7PRC will do anything the 7RM hasn't been doing for 60 years.
Also once you start talking about rebarreling an older rifle, you failed to mention rebarreling a 7RM with a faster twist. If you want a PRC that's great, just realize it is nothing more than a repackaged 7RM.

I can buy anything --- i remain loyal and practical two of the best cartridges all you will every need --- 270 and 7mm rem mag. Don't be a sucker in theses new bullets that cost twice the price---- it is all about sponsorship, marketing, and money. 😮😢😅
it's about $15 less for a box of 7mag Federal 140 soft point. good for blowing up milk jugs out in the back 40 but then you gotta pay to reload. I wouldn't get a PRC if I already had a good 7mag but I'm getting my 7prc in about a week and it's gonna be the next big thing. I'm sure not getting rid of my 270 either. new guns are fun! live a little.

It's got nothing to do with being a sucker. Not everyone needs to shoot the same caliber as you. I chose the 7 prc over the rem mag because of its quicker twist. I also have a 270, and a lot of other old calibers, but hey.... Variety is the spice of life!
This is where you fail to understand why this is superior to a 7 Remington ultra mag. It's not even about being loyal. Sure some of it is hype but most is not.

Hey guess what 7 rem mag has a larger case volume and browning is now offering a 7 rem mag with a fast twist barrel and that 7 rem mag from browning with the same bullets will shoot them quite a bit faster than the prc so if gun makers are going to start putting fast twist barrels on old cartridges that’s going to put a real big terd right on top hornadys lucky charms! So all that false advertising of over inflated velocitys from their cartridges is going to mean squat real soon when other company’s start doing what browning is!!!

The 7mm Rem Mag, will also need to have a longer throat for the 180+ bullets to seat them out longer, so the bullet doesn't take up case powder capacity in addition to the faster twist rates. These 2 factors will no longer make it optimal for traditional 7 Rem Mag 140-150 grain bullets. The really only down side though to the Rem Mag is that dang belt on the cartridge. Especially to reloading.
Actually the X bolt mag measures 3.600” and base to ogive touching the lands in that same xbolt rifle is 3.580” and max COAL for the 7 rem mag is 3.290” that’s an additional .290” you have to seat the bullet out further! Browning is the only company that when you buy one of there fast twist long range rifles they have done all the right thing to that rifle to make it shoot the longer heavier bullets!! I mean come why would browning make a rifle with a fast twist barrel for you to take it and shoot 140 and 150 class bullets that it would shoot just fine with the standard 1-9 1-9.5 twist! They didn’t build a rifle to twist heavy bullets and then not make the rest of the rifle capable of shooting those same bullets!! I have two a 7 mag and a 300 win both fast twist barrels both longer than standard throat and mag!! Next time do your research BUD!!
