Here is a trick that is rarely use due how dumb it is. If you struggle with using CC while getting ganked, go for the backwalk heavy attack. The horizontal hitbox is dummy big, still have HA, and it seems deceitful for the opponent you are lock on.
Something you can also do in group settings is that his forward + A spin attack can home toward a different enemy last second. So say you face one dude, do your spinning move, then change to a different guy you'll hit him instead. Throws people off.

Been playing him for about 2 weeks now. Definitely my favorite character, and the mix game is nasty. Edit:btw greatswords averages in weight about 10lbs I think. So swinging it fast isn’t impossible. Hence why he grabs up on the blade to swing the lights.
I used to hate Highlander as I was low rep, I'm on console, and I thought he was op. Now being rep 215 I now understand that he isn't as strong as I used to think because mostly big damage is his main strength. I find myself loving complex characters that feel rewarding for learning new things. It's a real breath of fresh air from dealing with characters that hold your hand the whole way and are super simple, I'm looking at you pirate. Playing Warden to rep 40 was fun enough because destroying high tier characters with a lower one felt really satisfying but it's really lost it's luster.
Exactly playing a harder character is definitely more rewarding that playing the Easy ones for sure. Definitely why I play warden, I recently started using Bp more, due to his flip being such good counter to alot if spam 😅 its nice to have counter options

But one thing that I don't get ist the unblockable heavy softfaint into a light. If the enemy tries to parry I think he still gets a parry and if he dogdes he still dodges the attack.
It's called a Claymore, People swing them pretty more fluid than highlander, check out HEMA with Claymore and Longswords- just won't see dodge attacks.

@@jakadvo2465 Agreed. Its definitely a pain to land it now. I think in release It used to have hyper armor but it was to strong then. Now practically every character has dodge attacks so it makes it hard. Try doing it after a heavy dodge. When your in stance and you do a dodge from their heavy attack, you can kick right after the dodge while there still in recovery animation. (Some hero's have dodge recovey on their recovery animation so it wont work On them though) its also learning your matchup.(moments the enemies are open for attacks) Also The kick, is best used as a soft feint from the unblockable attack in your heavy stance. If they go to parry your unblockable the kick lands.

Got highlander a few days ago, and he’s made the game more interesting and fun. Games feel more rewarding, but he’s very tricky to play
yeah alternating stances when needed dose take some getting used to. but if you keep at it its worth it, hes satisfying to play

If you look when he's swinging his light, he holds the blade halfway up. Which would explain how he can swing it so fast.

If they reworked him to swap like Medjay, feel like he would be much better.
I learned him when he came out way before Medjay So its probably why its easier for me but mechanicaly That switch would be easier for alot of people
