I'm no expert but I've watch many many demo videos over the years with interest in getting into the hobby. You are by far the most skilled pilot I've seen. Most folks just do flybys. Really impressive to watch this. Awesome looking jet too.
What i really want to see now is the freewing 80mm A-10 upgraded to 90's. also it would be cool to see some fpv and head tracking on any of your planes. like the videos by the way.
Hey Jon another great video... But I need your help...How the Hell did you get those wheels off ? I can't get them off to replace them with the DuBros..... Help Please. Thx
Beautiful plane, fine review! Thank you for your thoroughness. While you were doing your Touch 'n Go's, I was figuring out flare spew out the back and Estes-powered missiles that could be fired in flight. A Bbbrrrrrttttt gun might need some ingenuity to pull off. Am certain someone is tinkering with a Bbrrtt gun in their garage shop!
Thanks for video. Good ideas as always. Started the wheel mod, and the axle of the right main snapped off at the threads. And yes I knew this side would have reverse threads, but it snapped none the less. Left main and nose mod went fine without issues. FYI Node axle is also reverse threads. This should be obvious since the wheel rotates CCW, the axle should tighten going CCW.
That's unfortunate to hear, Jim. You should be able to thread another axle on it. Just be careful since this jet does come from an era where the metal alloys FMS used weren't the best ones.
Great job, just got this jet, love it, rewired, removed pcb and am running crow. Couple minor problems, gear somewhat intermittent, can take several cycles to get all three to talk. Also UBEC bad right out of box, hopefully Horizon replaces it. What flight times are you getting thanks! I’m getting 4.5 on 5000 Liperior.
Cool Jet, that wheel uprade really pays off! I always hate the loud noise from those foam wheels. Can you guys review the YAK130 70mm by FMS? I think you would really like it!
Haha, thanks man! Yeah, they've been really good to us and in return we're doing our best to keep that content coming. It was a hard call to say this is a 9.5/10 jet knowing they'd sent it to us, but we really had to dig hard into it to find anything that wasn't good. The wheels are the only point on the jet that we felt needed addressed, and for $20 we picked up the Du-Bro low bounce upgrade and it's turned it into one of the most enjoyable jets to land. Compared to V1, everything about this jet is stellar. Just wish V1 was what V2 is.
Is there a difference between the two servos you have in the description link? I need for ailerons. Thanks in advance. Just was wondering what the difference was
Greetings Jon. Your coverage of this model (my next plane I think) is the most comprehensive I can find. FMS claims this is a six channel system; however, I do not understand how you control the stock gyro without an additional channel? Any help you can provide before I start buying stuff I might not need would be greatly appreciated. BTW, I had been waiting and waiting for you to review the new FMS 80mm F-86. I was 100% sold on buying the F-86, but thanks to your review, I am rethinking that decision! I'm really put off by the cheap servos for the airbrakes. What a pain if they fail! Thanks again. Dale.
Happy to hear that we're able to help you out! We don't use the stock gyro. We always remove Reflex and use AS3X with a custom setup. If you want some buying help, swing by the Two Brothers Discord server via bit.ly/TBRCDiscord and ping Jon. If he's around, he'll talk directly. Cheers
How awesome! We are both on the same page. That is exactly what I was thinking, and exactly what I was planning to do. AR637 for me. Thank you so much! BTW, Brian Phillips was very unhappy about the flashing wing lights as well. He was begging for someone to show him how to turn off the flash. You are the only one I have seen address this. Maybe Brian would be grateful for your knowledge! Not to be a know it all, but as a military pilot, I can tell you there is a good reason why we have flashing wing tip lights. It helps avoid a visual anomaly (illusion) known as auto kinesis. All my best. Dale@@TwoBrosRC
Could you do a video on how you set-up differential thrust. I imagine one has to change the ESCs as one does to get reverse thrust. I would like to try both on my FMS A10 v1.
We've gotta re-shoot this A-10 in the near future, so getting a proper setup guide for it will be on the agenda. Changing ESCs is not required for differential thrust on this model, but reverse would require a change.
Did you change any esc settings to use the smc HV lipos? The paper that comes w the new packs says to set lvc to like 3.7v. I haven’t tried mine yet Great review on this plane it’s my next purchase
so I have the version that you sent to its watery grave and decided to upgrade my motors and esc to the version 2 setup and now my retracts won't work any suggestions ? I know its not you're problem but just wanted to know if you had any suggestions ?
How does this compare to the Freewing A-10 ? The size & price seem to be about the same , but ! What would lean me more so toward purchasing this bird verses theirs ?
It's cheaper to operate, only needing one battery instead of two. It's lighter, takes up less space, uses better motors (almost everyone upgrades FW motors to FMS motors), has scale gear, and is incredibly performant as you've seen here.
Hey man, how are the SMC packs that you’re using? I saw the 6200 mAh online. I have only used Spektrum batteries so far since I like the individual cells showing but it looks like these SMC packs are a good bank for their buck especially since I can get them to 4.35. Also idk if it’s a noob question but, I have the S1100 which is what I use to charge my 6s Spektrum packs, can I tell the charger to charge those SMC packs to 4.35? With Spektrum form obv reasons locks it at 4.2 but since I don’t have any other batteries to try it on that’s why I ask
This comment got caught in the spam filter and had to be manually approved. SMC batteries are our go-to for price and performance, and usually weight. Set your charger to use LiHV output and it will charge them to 4.35.
I was thinking that too so I’ll take your word for it and go with the 5300. Thanks guys! I just have one last question, like I’ve mentioned I’ve only had Spek batteries and when purchasing these SMC batteries it asks for the connector. Does the connector already come soldered on or do I have to do it?
Also damn, I just noticed that the 5300 is out of stock. Don’t know if to just go for the 6200 or wait for the 5300 😅. I noticed they’re apparently on sale
Have you guys messed with using a larger battery than the recommended? I was just rearranging the 50 cal ammo boxes and now have more 6s 6000’s than 5000’s. I’d also like to see how the a-10 would handle a couple 4s 3200’s. I’ve yet to burn up an ESC or a motor, but it’s not like I haven’t tried.
It would fly but it would fly poorly even if it balanced correctly. The servos will have to work harder to overcome the added inertia of the battery resulting in a sluggish feeling plane that's easier to stall and harder to fly.
It does have a pretty robust link system, but you may find that the nose retract needs reinforcement. Fly off grass for a bit. If it becomes loose, pull the entire retract out of the fuselage gently, but firmly, and resituate it with Gorilla Glue as reinforcement. It won't ever have an issue ever again.
So everything I’ve previously seen is that the 64mm eflite one is just better and more fun. But maybe they were comparing it to the v1? What do you think of it vs the eflite one?
So the thing is, the E-flite model is definitely made by FMS - so it's two models by the same manufacturer. We touched on this around the time of the maiden landing. The 64mm A-10 is a great model but it's nowhere near as complex or as stable as the 70mm. The 64mm feels more difficult to land because it's smaller and more squirrelly as a result, and is rather heavy for a 64mm class jet. The 70mm is heavy too, but makes up for it by being scaled up and having more wing area to carry that weight. We prefer the 70mm so far, but we'd have to fly both side by side to make a true comparison - which we've done before with the V1, but we'll do it again with the V2.
@@ronnymiller7395 Neither, really. They're both pretty heavy for their wing size. Though the 70mm might glide a bit better so long as you don't use flaps.
Just because it is heavy doesn’t mean it’s got a high wing loading, I think it is a lot lower than you think just looking at how quick it lifted of and how slow it can fly.
Ordered it today. Should be fun to have the 64mm, the 80mm and the FMS a-10 out at the field at the same time. On an unrelated matter, is there any OTC medication for Obsessive Compulsive Disorder that you’re aware of?
IS it just me, or did I see wing flex? FMS uses/used a lot of fiberglass & steel in almost all of their branded planes (all the gliders, trainers, etc), & using high positive G maneuvers, u could visually SEE it. (I really hope it's all CF now, especially on the G2 versions! For what WE have to pay NOW for FOAM!!!)
i would shave all the bombs and stuff off the bottom of the wings, they serve no purpose other than looks and put a big drag on...the plane would probably be way better handling and faster and the battery would last longer too.
Although you guys fly ok, doing inverted high alphas is NOT INTERESTING. No real aircraft is designed for this kind of manouver, hence it is not a maneuver an rc plane should be reviewed on. I don't think anybody buys a scale plane thinking how it will perform this uncommon manouver, unless it's a 3d designed for rc plane. Again this manouver is NOT INTERESTING AT ALL.

Hey that sounds like RC Pilot Will on the camera! I recognize that voice. Always love his excited commentary.

Perfect. Thank you. Now how did you make the axle hole bigger without spinning the wheel on the tire
A Dremel will do most of the work, just make sure you're evenly drilling all the sides.
Hey Jon another great video... But I need your help...How the Hell did you get those wheels off ? I can't get them off to replace them with the DuBros..... Help Please. Thx
Gently turn them counterclockwise - they should rotate right out. If you meet resistance, you're turning the wrench the wrong way.

Yeah, those dubro tires do really help but it's not easy drilling holes into them. Requires a vice!
Drilled it with a handheld Dremel and an X-acto knife. Took two minutes, no vice necessary.
