    Having a Masters degree in Industrial Organizational Psychology has been a big help as a change manager. It also helps to get a certification. I like Prosci, but others are out there.

      Alexis, education is a great, but most people will not need more than a Masters degree. That’s if you’re really ambitious. My doctorate is a great accomplishment, but not always as practical as a certification program.
      My suggestion to anyone... Get an education and back it up with experience.

      Jasmine Wu- Check out SIOP.org if you have not already. It is the main professional organization for IO Psych. My main concern was applied or research focused curriculum. I went applied because I already had a solid background in research to know my interest was in being out in the business world. I got my degree in Chicago at the Chicago School of Professional Psychology. In my experience, too many IO Psychologists that do the research have a hard time translating what they know to an applied environment because the business world is a little different.

      @Wug At $5,000 or so for a certification, I can see that. I saw the value of the one time expense. It has paid off in the intervening years.

    Hi Kristina!
    I have the exact same career trajectory as you, coming from Public Relations and slowly venturing into the field of Change Management Consulting. The journey was really not an easy one especially during the peak of the project timeline and the workload is absolutely CRAZY. But I am really happy to see women out there in the same area, sharing their work experiences and that I am not alone ;)
    Keep working hard and rock on, you go girl!

      Depends on the firm I think, but even in my role I also sometimes deal with tech implementations -- but moreso on the people side, like getting people to understand why the new tech is important, how it will help them, etc., rather than the technical side of developing the program or managing training as it gets rolled out.

    I am in the last semester of my Bachelor's in Tourism Management and during my studies I did different part-time jobs and internships in Hospitality, Accounting Department and Recruiting. Eventually I ended up in Learning and Development where I am currently enjoying my work and projects a lot and where I also got a lot of insights into Change Management. During my academic studies, instead, I preferred gathering some technical knowledge and I chose electives regarding Artificial Intelligence, Data Analytics, CRM and Digital Marketing applied to the tourism industry and I am currently also writing my thesis about the IT transformations in tourism. I would really like to acquire a deeper knowledge about both technology and business and for this reason I applied for a Master's degree in Business Administration with focus on Digital Technology Management where I really hope I will get accepted. Do you think that that would be a good choice in order to get into Change Management? I got an understanding that I really like working with new technologies and understanding their impact on the organisations, despite the fact that I am not a tech-specialist, at the same time I love working with people and giving presentations but I don't really see myself anymore in a classical "HR job".
    Another problem with me would be the communication, I really love communicating, writing and presenting and I grew up as a polyglot (I speak 5 languages and know the basics of some other ones), but sometimes it is a bit difficult for me since I don't speak any of them with a proper native accent and fluency. Right now I am living in Germany and I am afraid that if I choose this career path native speakers will have an advantage over me and maybe the right choice for me would be to go instead into a more analytical or technical kind of job.

    Hi, Not sure if you’ve answered this but how much of math/finance do you use in change management ? I have the exact background as you where I studied literature and now I’m working in PR and looking for a change and change management looks like a great option to me, the only thing is I have 0 math/business skills. Would love if you could reply to this!

    • @bykchoi
      @bykchoi  4 года назад +1

      Not much, but it depends on the types of projects/clients I work with at any given time! Some require a bit more financial knowledge. I wouldn't say that a formal background in math/finance is necessary, but I did find it helpful (if even just for my own confidence) to take business and finance classes during my master's. But again, I don't think an actual degree is necessary, as long as you can show you have a basic understanding and analyze data appropriately and efficiently.
